I just set my alarm for tomorrow morning so I wouldn't accidentally sleep in late. I think Ted is ready to go back to the school routine. Although he is such a happy, contented kid it is hard to tell.

every time each of my girls would go back to school I was always sad to see their vacation end. Tonight when my DH went to bed I was sad to see his vacation come to an end. I guess I should have been born independantly wealthy huh?? so I could just be on a "vacation" all the time???

I guess we will all adjust to the routine of normal life in say a week or so, HUH???

I'm with you Carol. I hated when my girls had to return to school. When we win the lottery .....

not mmmmuch going on I think I might just turn in early tonight.--it is warmer in bed anyway. so that is a good place to be.

how did I miss your post, sheri????--yea I want to win the lottery also--but I heard that yo have to actually BUY the tickets in order to win.
hardly seems fair......

It is so lovely to see the sunshine after four days of a storm! How delightful.

Good morning. It is 61 outside my back door and warming up fast with bright sunny skies.

LOL we are having a heat wave of 16* here now

It is not always sunny and warm here so I am enjoying it while I can.

oh I do not blame you --and it is tipically warmer there than here or the east coast--and that is a good thing--I am happy for you.

I think I will go and get some work done--

Not a whole lot going on here now--I think I will call it a day now & catch some sleep.--Tomorrow I go to ceramics & then I have some errands to run.

I was just reading Wild Willy's meatloaf recipe. I am going to try it. Maxi hates meatloaf but I think he would enjoy this one very much.

I do not know why he dislikes meatloaf since he loves hamburger every other way he can get it, but, I'm thinking this one might really please him.

Maxi is in the shower getting ready for school. I will start cooking here in a few minutes for him. And I will start the coffee for me.

Another school day underway and I sure wish the sun would come up!

We're just going to get a light dusting of snow today. I am hoping the forecast is correct and we don't get much more than that.

I have errands to run today....

Good morning. It is to be bright and sunny here today.

Morning all,
We don't have snow yet but it is cold- 29* right now and that is it- thats as warm as they say it will get.... BRRRRRR!
I have a nail appt in a couple hours too and we have to hit a grocery store for some fresh stuff... need fruit... been craving fruit salads for some reason... must need some vit c or something...
Not much else going on- taking the rest of our Christmas decor down today too... Joe did the tree last night- and we are doing village today... then it will all go back in it's rubbermaid boxes and be stacked up in the basement till next yr... hopefully nothing will be left out this yr- usually I find one thing after it's all put away...LOL!
Well need to go find some breakfast and get my day moving....

Finding one last thing is a given, Nana. Brrr, it is cold there. You have snow coming in soon? I think I saw on the weather that you will have more. I feel for you all everywhere.

Nana, it can drive a person nutz to find that last little Christmas item lingering in a hidden spot sometime in March!

When we used to let the little children play with the small nativity we'd usually find a lamb or an angel under the couch sooner or later.

We did some organizing today instead of simply just cleaning. That feels better. But we won't be taking down our decorations for a while yet. We didn't do any outside this year so that makes it easier, too.

Tomorrow I am going to take down my christmas Decorations.
We wait until Epiphany to take down our decorations.
That is tomorrow , Jan. 6th.
Lucky for me, I do not have anything I have to do tomorrow so I am happy for that.

Hi all,
Well mine are down and so far haven't found anything hiding- ... will when I put the stuff back on the bookcases ... Joe did a lot of the taking down- I have a kidney infection again- going back to doc in the morning- feels like morning sickness and I don't enjoy it at all.... and now way could it be the real thing.... as the doc said the playpen is there the crib is gone....LOL!
Did go grocery shopping before I got my nails done- that is another task out of the way... school starts tomorrow...Yay! Timothy has permission to go to his friends house after school for his birthday party- so we will be picking up Derek and Nicoli... will be nice to get back to the routine.
I am so tired- my sleep schedule is really off- been up til all hours and sleeping in the day time... not like me - must be the infection... and maybe the hot then cold spells too- ... just feel kind of blah.... but with some meds I hope I am back to my normal nutty self soon...
Well off to get something in me for dinner- maybe soup and a sandwich will hit the spot... kind of hungry though so may just make some spaghetti...

Today I tried to make arrangements for Maxi to take a vacation in February during winter break. He originally had plans to go to OH with his dad but that trip got canceled. So I'm thinking of letting him go to PA by train on his own. My sister and nephew would be glad to have him for the week and my nephew would get a kick out of taking him around to Center City Philadelphia to see the sites. And, they'd probably have a blast playing with Ted's wii. We have lots of relatives down that way who haven't seen Maxi since he was a baby, so it would be fun for everyone.

Oh that sound like a fun plan for Maxi.... hope it works out-- how long a trip would that be.... when I was a kid we rode the train a lot- day trips in Alaska- love the winter ones cause we would have to stop if the caribou or moose were crossing the tracks in their huge hurds... instead of cow catchers on the engines they had moose catchers...LOL!
It is cold- and getting colder ... high tomorrow is supposed to be 22* and that will happen at midnight and get colder as the day comes... long underwear time...
I will feel better as soon as they give me some antibiotics and I take them for a couple days... usually fixes me right up... I didn't connect my aching back with a problem cause I had been on my feet cooking for Christmas ... thought I had just overdid it--- the the rest of the wonderful symptoms started... of course on the weekend... sure wish they would come up with an over the counter cure....
well I am worn out - heading to bed now- up early tomorrow to get boys to school and me to doc...

Maxi is writing a paper on the Model T Ford and how it changed society. The paper itself is for National History Day and this year's theme is inventions that changed history. Next week he has to turn in his preliminary "Process Paper" which is to be 500 words on how he developed his ideas and did the research for the final paper. It is coming along nicely.

I am a bit hesitant about letting Maxi go to PA alone by train although I know he can easily do it. It is a five hour ride from Boston to Philadelphia with no changes. Last night I was telling him that although the train does stop he shouldn't get off of it just to look around because it will leave without him if he isn't on board.

The only place where it is safe to get out to look is in CT where they stop the train to change the type of engine pulling the train. Many people get off there to stand in a crowd to watch the exchange & then hop back on board.

My family said they also could drive to NYC and pick him up but I think in some ways that would be more complex for him to get off the train at Grand Central and make his way through the crowds looking for his Aunt and cousin.

merme I do not envy you your position. Parents often struggle with what is the right amount of "string" to hand out to their kids. especially in todays world. Good luck with your decision. (I have to ask though) do trains have the same level of aid they give to kids as planes do. We used to send our youngest to see her sister when she was maxi's age. the ao=irline took her form us at the plane , watched her and did not relese her until our oldest D h ad proved with ID she was =who she said she was. it sure mede me feel better.

It was a special program the airline had--I believe Rod had to fill out & papers, stationg who emily was , her age & who was to pick her up, etc ???

I went to doc office- they say the infection is not to bad but do need meds for it- pharmacy didn't have it- so had to have another one to take- also got put on a blood pressure med for 30 days to see if it helps... I just am mostly tired... not sleeping very well.... but it will get better...
Snow is falling now... yard is covered- and it is cold out there... it's 34* and supposed to get colder .. 2-3 inches expected by morning.
Boys went back to school today.. think they were glad to go... break was about 3 days to long....
Well off to go read awhile and maybe take a nap before boys are back...

Merme - I understand how scary NYC train terminals are, but they could meet him right at the gate. I was just wondering if they would make a day of it in NYC and perhaps take him to the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island? Or the Empire State Building? Has he seen these already? If not, it would be great for a boy his age!

Nana - I hope you are feeling much better soon. I, too, have been very run down, and also have a few things the drs. are looking into which includes several ultrasound tests recently, and an upcoming CAT scan - fun! NOT!

Thanks I hope I feel better soon too- this being half sick feeling is for the birds... hopefully will get the results of the blood work tomorrow... she said it wouldn't take long... ultrasounds aren't so bad but I am not to fond of CAT scans either... they always seem to take forever...
Merme if they could make a day of it in NYC that would be fun-- heck I am way over Maxi's age and I would like it... if he could be met right at the train gate he shouldn't get to confused , easier than an airport... they are always confusing to me-- but then I have no sense of direction at all... I can get lost in a mall... thats why my family won't let me go anywhere alone...LOL!

Howdy everyone. Tonight we started with snow, a bit after 6pm.
It is said that this weather system (snow) is going to continue until it reaches 4-8 inches. However, that is not going to be the problem. The problem arrises in that they cannot pretreat the roads due to the extreme cold. Then to top it off, the winds forcast for tomorrow promise to greatly reduce visibility and make keeping the roads clear virtually impossible. Gee how I hope that they are way mistaken.

oh I will tina--Rod will take the Blazer to work & there is no way I am taking out that big truck of his in weather like what we are suppiosed to have
so me?/ I wll be safe & snug in this house all day tomorrow & perhaps on friday as well

you are so kind--I do have a gas fed fireplace. if I get too cold I wll simlply get a book & go set in front of it & read all day

I tend to worry about power outages and such. I like to be prepared as much as possible.

That is 1 reason why Rod wanted the fireplace--we would have prefered a wood burning 'place but this one has no blower so when the power is out we still have the fireplace to keep us warm. and we still have water. BUT in the basement is bottles water, candles, matches & a wind up weather/regular radio. Also, there are lots of batteries in the freezer.

I think I will call it a night now--

Thank you for posting on this topic, Lynne. I didn't know non-ticket holders could come to the gates. That would help very much for many reasons! And, having time to actually visit some of the sights would be splendid for Maxi. Of all the millions of times we've gone through NYC, we haven't had the chance to stop and actually visit. He would adore that! Maxi has always referred to NYC as though it were Mecca! Just the sound of the name of that city lights his face right up!

Nana I'm with you on train travel. We did much of it when I was young and I still love to be on a train.
