Carol at work is a mass thicket of trees behind the parking lot, and to the left of the parking lot it begins to thin out,, I see a lot of birds there. But the trees and bush is so thick It's hard to get a clear shot of many of the smaller birds,, some of which I more than likely will never see at my feeders. The Audubon society here has named the city I work in as a hot spot for bird viewing, problem is I'd have to wear thick leather boots to walk into the thickets,, there are many snakes there by the creek, so that makes me apprehensive to walk into that area

well I have to say---no bird alive would make it worth coming in contact with a snake. I dont blame you for staying away from that mess. we will just enjoy the photos of the birds yo udo get a chance to snap.

That hawk is a Red-Tailed Hawk! Note the dark, "cumberbund" ? That is the primary field-mark of a Red-Tailed Hawk.

That IS a SUPERB flight shots of that hawk. Good flight shots of birds are so hard to get that many of us don't even try to do it. The lighting, detail, depth perception and pose on this shot are WONDERFUL! I tell people to learn how to take GOOD picture BEFORE they get a good camera. The camera is not that important. The secret is to know and have a "gut" feeling of what will make a great shot. Also take lots of shots of each bird. My picture card in my camera can store about 1,5oo pictures at a time so I am very liberal with the number of pictures I take. Nevertheless, I try to make EVERY shot interesting and eye catching. Many of the pictures fail to do this but it is that rare o0ne or two that really makes an impact. So have fun and practice, practice, PRACTICE. Great SHot, Diane!
