OK, Are you catching up yet?
Your mother may have had reasons when you were small. Like getting you into school earlier or something. And never had or saw a reason to correct it.

Bill when does the certificate say you were born if not on New Years? Is it a matter of minutes in terms of before or after midnight? So your folks may have known you were born at one time but it was written down differently? Of is the date quite far off?

A couple of years ago my EX found out his family had always celebrated his birthday on the wrong day according to his new birth certificate. And he is a September baby!

so, OK--so how much younger are you ????and hey, even at 4 your sister might remember about the weather when you were born, that could help, right???

sounds to me like reason to celebrate---how many people find out they are younger that they thought???? why

Ah, how much easier for your mother to celebrate on the first which is a holiday anyway! I bet when you were a little one you thought every party was just for you and she fostered that happy thought. Not such a bad thing.

BTW: My MIL found out when she went to appy for Medicare that waht she thought was her first name was in fact her middle name. and since it was easier than changing all of her legal papers, she just paid to have her name legally changed around. so mistakes happen---I imagine years back records were not the most exact

Good morning, everybody! I hope everyone is in fine spirits today.

We don't have any elaborate plans for the weekend. We'll be hanging out, tidying up the house, and going to church tomorrow.

A friend is going to visit this afternoon and bring over soup, corn bread and apple cake. That will be fun.

After church we will have to go to the big library in Portland so Maxi can do more research for his history project.

Sounds like a nice weekend for you, Merme.

Hi everyone!

Don and I are off to COSTCO to buy a new tv, because Brian's cat, Seven, broke the one in our bedroom. We are finally entering the 21st century and getting an HD tv - go us! lol thumbup

But before we go there, we are going to the new IHOP that is just around the corner from COSTCO - it's been YEARS since we went to one. Mostly because the service has always been horrendous, while the food was yummy luv. The last one we went to, it took 45 minutes for our pancakes to be served - ridiculous!!! madd

By the way... I'll take lots of those spirits you all are having today. THANKS!

Let me see.... Lynne likes to drink.... um.... Midori? Do I remember that correctly?

IHOP sounds good. I haven't been in about 12 years, but Maxi has gone there with others.

Welcome to the 21st Century, by the way! HD TV wow! You go, girl!

Good memory, Merme! I haven't had one of those since the summer, but my new favorite drink is a Malibou Baybreeze. It's Malibou coconut rum, cranberry and pineapple juice. YUMMMMMMMMY!!!

Off for pancakes now - have a good one all!

I just finished helping Maxi with his Confirmation preparations for this week. It involves reading and then typically three brief essay-ish questions. He is about halfway through the process.... about three more weeks to go.

I'm glad for this quiet day at home as tomorrow will be busy!

When is Maxi's confirmation, Merme?

We didn't get to eat at IHOP - the line was out the door with a 45 minutes wait - I'm sure it's because it's new. We did get the tv at COSTCO along with some food and catlitter so all is good there.

We also got another 3 free months with a multi-room DVR from Verizon - I went into the tiny store to pay my monthly bill, and I always ask if they have any new offers. So far, since using Verizon as of a year ago December, we've had free DVR services for 3 months 3 times. NOT bad! Why pay $19.99 for the box and services when you can get it for free? Granted it's not for the entire year, but I can live with that.

We also went to our favorite Mexican Restaurant on the way home since we couldn't get into IHOP. There were only 2 other tables occupied and it was very nice. I always get the same thing there - chimichangas. But the surprise was the dessert that they serve automatically - new this time. A long stip of hot plantain in a crispy shell, with maple syrup drizzled over it, and 2 mounds of whipped cream surrounding a scoop of vanilla icecream. The plantain flavor with maple, and vanilla was DELISH!!!

Now it's time for a nap while Don figures out how to anchor the new tv to the wall so the cats can't push it over! It's very lightweight and only 2 inches wide. They are always jumping up in that area so we have to have the tv very secured.

My friend came by with her very delicious lentil & vegetable soup, corn bread and a heavy yummy apple cake.

I had to chuckle, though, because she made some remark about how the cake wasn't "sugar free" and therefore not good for my diabetes.

So many people have that perception -- that "sugar free" makes something safe for a diabetic to eat. NOT! Sugar free might help a dieter who is counting calories, but the only thing which helps a diabetic is controlling carbs.

It was all quite lovely to eat... this lady can really cook! thumbup

Lynne you posted while I was typing and eating soup! lol

Wow that dessert at the restaurant sounds downright heavenly!

I hope Don figures out a good way to secure that TV nice and snug so the kitties can't push it around.

Yes, you've been getting good deals from Verizon as you go along. Not bad!

Maxi's Confirmation originally was scheduled for January 24th but because of my too frequent trips to the hospital between Thanksgiving and New Year, his preparations fell behind. So now we are hoping to get him involved in a Regional Confirmation this spring. A Regional Confirmation is when several churches get together and have one large Confirmation service rather than individual smaller ones.

Our priest is inquiring when & where the Regionals will be in the next six months and we'll pick a good one for Maxi from there.

wow !! While I was busy and then sleeping (yep I got a nap too, Lynne)there has been quite a lot going on.

I see I missed Cindy--I hope she is feeling well. I seem to be missing poeple a lot lately--my bad....

Lynne got a new TV (Go Lynne) and a fantastic sounding meal & dessert out.

and Merme also ate well and has been busy. I hope you are able to work out all of Maxi's preparations so he can soon get confirmed.

My girls got confirmed in the spring of their 8th grade year. It was teh parent responsibility to make a banner that co-ordinated with their confirmation bible verse--these hung in chirch the day they were confirmed. I still have both girls banners here.
They now do it much earlier in our church. I think the kids are in 5th or 6th grade now--not sure I agree but hey---I guess as long as they understand everything they need to, it is ok.

BTW: I am having a reaction to my H1N1 shot. the achy feeling & a bity of a sore throat. But I know what it is so I can tolerate it. I took some ibprophen & that is why I was sleeping.

Sorry you are reacting to the shot, Carol - I hope it passes quickly.

Merme - spring sounds like a nicer time to be confirmed in my mind. I hope you get a good date that works out well for you all.

I would have had a very nice nap - I really needed it, as I've had a strong headache all day - but Don was busy hammering in the garage most of the time, and I heard every bang even though it's 2 levels down, because it's directly beneath our bedroom. But that's ok - I got enough sleep and not too much that I won't be able to sleep tonight.

And the tv is up and running and Don is now watching a football game on it - he deserves that after working all these hours to set it up. And the good thing is that we now have a tv back in the bedroom after Seven broke the other one - the one that was in the familyroom is now in the bedroom and it's a bit larger than the old one, and has a much better volume control - the old one had set volumes, so it was either too low or too loud for me. This one has many more settings in between - a very good thing!

I'm glad Don was able to get the TV's all arranged and then enjoy the fruits of his labors!

Lynne did you know Maxi and I bought our first flat screen earlier this month? It is a little 19 inch and I love it. We put the big TV in Maxi's room for all his games and DVD's, etc and put the new little TV in the living room where I watch most often.

I joined you in your naps... and had a wee one myself. blush

It was 39 here again today and we welcomed the warmth.

Oh I forgot to mention.... the idea of Maxi being Confirmed in the spring is also nice because it helps our out-of-state family travel more easily to Maine. No worries of snow storms for people unused to heavy snows.

We are hoping to throw a really nice celebration for him, too...

Yes, that is also what I meant about Srping. Brian's Bar Mitzvah was in the middle of March of a very bad year for snow - many receptions had to be cancelled that winter because families couldn't travel to them.

Glad you like your new tv - it will take a little adjusting for me to get used to the wide screen view.

We also had a bit of a heat wave - almost 50 today AND the sun was out - NICE!

Jeepers, I just lost an entire post!

Let's see... what did I say...

Mid-March can be lovely in your area. I hope Brian had a beautiful day for his Bar Mitzvah.

Our new little TV has that letterbox shape. I am more used to TV's that are taller so it is odd to me to watch a screen that is wider than tall.

I have not seen an HDTV in real life. Do you notice a big difference in picture quality?

50 DEGREES? Did it make you want to hula?

Oh, and did you finish the gnome for Amy's friend?

Our new tv is also wider than I am used to, and I do prefer the more square view, but oh, well... such is progress...

Don doesn't have it all set up yet, so we aren't seeing all the benefits yet - besides... he's watching a football game and I do not do those! So I will know more when I watch a movie on it.

Not so sure about wanting to hula - I was actually VERY cold when we first went out today, but it did make me want to sit out in the sun - it was too late when we got home though.

The gnome is all knit up - I have to remember to get the beans to weigh the bottom down before I can sew him all up. The pattern calls for plastic pellets, but dried beans work just as well and are MUCH cheaper!!!

I'll be interested to hear what you think of the new TV once you get a chance to watch it. As I said, I haven't seen one yet and have been wondering.

Isn't it interesting how so often the "made" fill for projects is so much more pricey than the traditional "found" fill? I've sometimes been shocked by the difference.

We've had so much melting going on, going out tomorrow won't be a problem for me and that is a welcome relief during winter months. Our owners clear snow thoroughly but only how they think we use the walkways... not how they are actually used! So the area for my wheelchair can become quite difficult fast.

Oh a while back the manager of our complex stopped by and told me something was "wrong" with the way my dryer was vented. So, he looked at it here and went into the basement where no tenants can go. Then he came back up and complained about how the whole thing was done.

Well, I didn't know anything about what was going on downstairs, right?

Anyway he left to "fix" the problem.

Suddenly, every time we used the dryer, all FIVE of my smoke alarms would go off!

So I finally got in touch with him directly and told him my dryer has been setting off the smoke alarms since he "fixed" the venting and (there is no apparent smoke anywhere). So he came and undid whatever he'd done and now I can run my dryer again without alarming my entire apt!!

I have no idea what he did down there but it sure caused a problem.

That is pretty scary, Merme, but I have to tell you it does remind me of something Don did a long time ago. We had read that one could take the hose from the dryer and re-route it to inside the house thereby increasing humidity - our house is so dry!!! Well that was a BIG mistake - while it did increase the humidity, it made the air quality so poor with microscopic bits of dryer lint that it made it hard to breathe, so he put it to vent back outside.

Yes, I've heard of people venting their dryers inside for better humidity and I've seen those little filter boxes they use to grab the extra fine lint but I've never been in a home vented that way. I can only imagine what you had to deal with!

I think whatever the manager did caused lint to build up in the line. He is young and not very handy and is still learning his job!

I just helped Maxi make popcorn the old-fashioned way on top of the stove. It always tastes better to me than microwaved.
