Any suggestions for easy beginner houseplants?

One suggestion,

Just do it .

buy something cheap at walmart now. And read the directions on it.
OR if it has a name , as us an we will present you with a max of solutions.

Are christmas cactus fairly easy?

Yes they are easy.

But only bloom once or twice a year.
I put mine in garden soil an they do wonders.

Philodendron's are easy too. mine are a few months short of being 30 years old, and are all doing well. There was a lot of time while I was raising my girls that they waited several weeks to get watered & they still lived.
so they would be a good place to start.

also spider plants are hardy as well

However, neither of these bloom.

I second philodendruns and pothos - very strong, vining plants that don't need to be fussed over.

Spider plants are great too, and do get tiny white flowers before the baby spiders leaf out but they are insignificant. If you have cats, they will most likely eat the spider plants unless you can hang them out of reach.

oops, Lynne--you are right. I forgot about the tiny flowers on the spider babies.---so they DO have flowers.

I had a dk green one many years ago.--Now I have a verigated baby that is "growing up".

A snake Plant ( Mother in law tongue) is very very easy, They take a lot of neglect, and thrive nicely! medium light( indirect lighting) and little water and they do fine!

Mine jabbed me in the butt this morning. I bent over to get some socks an it happened.

Hope she doesnt spread it around.

i second violets they are easy and beautiful.......and jade plants are great ....also a good time to visit wally world and pick up discounted amaryllus ...i bought 3 this year ...!!!
