OMG!!!!! You got a picture of a Loggerhead Shrike!!!!!! It has been almost 15 years since I have seen one! They are vanishing over large areas of North America! Notice that he looks like a Northern Mockingbird on steroids with that black mask. They are also called the "Butcher Bird", due to their habit of catching their prey (Insects, mice, and small birds) and impaling them on thorns or the spikes of barbed wire. With their catch hanging there they tear off pieces and eat them at will. I have personally seen them do this. They have never been common , but I used to see 5 or 6 a day when I first started birding. But like I said, its been about 15 years since I have seen one. They actually have a very pretty, soft, raspy song. Keep your eye on this one. It may be the only one you EVER see!

It's Nature in all its glory and gruesomeness. Those of us who study nature don't try to change it, we try to record it accurately. Some of the favorite things we bird photographers try to get are their erotic behavior, or we try to catch them using the, errm.....WASHROOM (heh, heh, heh)! I personally like to capture fighting birds or birds with their tongues sticking out.

Birds don't pee. Their urine a feces are mixed together and excreted through the cloaca. The cloaca is also used for reproduction and for laying eggs. It is a SINGLE opening for all functions in BOTH female AND male birds!
