Dodge I had cataracs in both eyes , they took them out and replaced with new lenses- but that left me with scar tissue on my corneas which gives me light sensativity so now I need laser surgery to correct that...next month will have the work done..and next week I can get glasses too , eyes are finally healed enough...
Mom is doing okay... hope sis comes around eventually.. but she is a lost cause...

My 40 year old niece Suzy down in PA was just taken to the hospital. Her husband said the doc's are saying she either has pneumonia or congestive heart failure and they are running tests.

She is the sole support of her little family & is the mother of 2 severely disabled young boys.

She needs to be well for her own sake but also those little boys are total reliant on their mommy.

She is in West Chester, about an hour or so west of Philadelphia.

Congestive Heart Failure isn't a picnic. It is a chronic condition that needs close monitoring. Although there are ways to prevent flare ups, people do die of it. When I was first diagnosed with it, it was the sickest and the most scared I had ever been, even counting my emergency open heart surgery. Then several years later I had a bad flare up, second really scarey time.

Anyway, I just got off the phone with Suzy. In the morning they are doing a biopsy of her left lung and are drawing fluid out of the plural sac and sending that to the lab for analysis. We won't know anything until tomorrow night. All I can say is she sounded really wheezy and gaspy and coughed quite a bit. A concern is that she never takes care of herself. She works crazy hours, doesn't sleep right, doesn't eat right and just go go go all the time.

My niece Sue Ann was diagnosed with lung cancer. We don't have any more details yet but I'll let you know specifics when I know more.

I just wanted to stop by here and let everyone know that I do read this thread, but because of my religious beliefs (more accurately, lack there of) I don't pray, but just know that everyone here is in my thoughts and I'm secretly sending happy thoughts and good karma out there.

When I was speaking with Suzy last night, she indicated she would like to begin keeping a journal & I had her describe what it might look like & what type of pen? So today I went to Staples and got her the very things! We will mail them tomorrow once I gather up the photo of Maxi she also requested & the quote she was looking for.

A nice little package for her.

I agree with Barb, that is very thoughtful of you. It is a good idea to keep her mind focused on other things--this journal will help her do that I am sure.

Today Sue Ann had a stent put in the bronchial tube that is being compressed by a tumor. The docs hope this will allow for the lung to re-inflate as it has been collapsed for several days. The radiation just wasn't effecting enough of a change. We won't know until tomorrow's (Thursday) x-ray if it was successful or not. If not, the doc will go back in and try to remove some stuff that is blocking it.

She is in some discomfort tonight with all that poking around inside, but she said she thought she would sleep well.

Sue Ann came home from the hospital today. She will go in five days a week for radiation and one of those days will include chemo. She also has to see the ENT to see if there is anything to be done with the tumor against her vocal chords. The surgeon wants to implant a second stent in the bronchial tube.

The American Cancer Society in her area is being very helpful.

Dodge, Sue Ann is my niece who has lung cancer. The stent was placed to try to open the bronchia where her lung collapsed. The lung is still collapsed.

I think you may have gotten her confused w/ my friend Rachel who had the premie baby?

I will keep Sue Ann in my thoughts and hope for a full recovery. Glad to hear she is getting help from the cancer society.

Sue will be in my prayers, as she has been.

Today we received an update on my niece, Sue Ann. We got the results of her PET scan which is more clear than a CT scan. The difficult news is that the cancer is much more invasive than they originally thought, it is even in that area (I forget the name of it) where your lungs separate to make room for the heart. That is not good; not good at all.

We are all just very scared for her.

OH MY goodness, continued prayers for Sue and for her little boys.

I know that this might be a strange prayer request but....

My grandfather is 94 and in heart failure, he now has double pneumonia..he took a seizure this morning from high fevers and just took a stroke an hour ago. Please pray for a peaceful passing in his sleep...a lengthy recovery isn't what he wants. He is so tired.

Not unusual.
last year when sis was in her desperate hours, hospital called an I prayed to god to not let her suffer any longer. 15 minutes later she was gone.
