I usually have my camera with me and glad I did recently.

I saw this lawn and had to snap a pic for ya'll.

Yep, a front lawn of wild buttercups! They really were very pretty.

Here's a close up of the buttercups. Brings back memories of my childhood days!

that looks so neat! You think I'll be able to have a whole patch of blue flax? it probably won't look the same but similar!

Thanks Kenny! Neat idea, blue flax. This way you won't have to mow the lawn lol-just enjoy your blue flax lawn.
Actually the house with the buttercup lawn is for sale and the lawn is not being mowed. I guess that's why the buttercups cropped up. Looks good though. flwr

Well, I am amazed. I thought wild buttercups only came in yellow. You learn something new everyday. How pretty.

That does bring back memories. I remember using those and some sort of white fluffy flower, maybe clover, to make wreaths/crowns for my sister and I.

Thanks Christy and Penny!

Tamara, good question! I did a little research on "purple buttercups" after I read your post and yep, that's what they are. Maybe they are grown exclusively down south rolz, dono. Does anyone know?

LandOfOz,
lol, Yep, I remember clover blooms too and made plenty of "garden jewelry" back in the day. lol

Stephanie - that flower looks just like the Mexican Evening Primrose that my cousin gave me starts of 2 summers ago. I just did a google image search and the flowers look identical to me.

I've also only heard of buttercups as being yellow, here in NY - could it be that that is a nickname for the primroses where you live?

Thanks Micheal15r & loz

Lynn, hmmmm. I looked at each pic you provided on that link. Mexican primrose? Seems the leaves look different down here. It almost looks on your site like the flowers are growing on bush form, whereas these have individual shoots that are spaced out in the grass. I did read on your link that "evening primroses are also known as buttercups because of the cup shape of the flower and the butter colored pollen that is left on the face when smelling the flower". lol lol

Could you provide a pic of primrose cutting you rec'd? Maybe we can compare. That is interesting. I always thought the purple buttercups were wildflowers or weeds. I'm seeing these buttercups in full swing in my area.

Does anyone know more on the subject?

Stephanie - mine are not even up through the soil here yet - won't be blooming for a few more months yet.

But... here's a picture from last year - they do not grow on a bush -
they are pretty much single stems, but get crowded together so that they look like one.

Lynn,
Thanks for showing yours. I'm not sure what we actually have down here but it does look similar to yours.
