I was setting up the bird netting and frame so I can plant a couple hundred Sunflowers tomorrow (three forty foot rows... 'Mammoth' 8 footers in back, multi-colored 5-6 footers in middle row, 3-4 foot Giant Reds in front) All I have to do is to keep the #$%^ Jays from eating them...

Never mind, I googled it. Apparently bluebirds live in the southern part of my province..not here. I always thought a bluebird was a Bluejay

The only blue birds you'll ever see on Cedar Hill are Stellar's Jays. The cam is running in the Bird Feeder this morning... Lots of birdies out there! It is hard to get good shots on the cam in there because of poor lighting. I goofed up when I put a steel roof on it In the next week I will be replacing the steel roofing with polycarbonate shade panels which should help the cam pix and the 16 Fuchsias that are trying to grow out there... Regarding my try at Sunflowers... The bird netting did great, but I forgot to put the slug bait out in time, so there are only going to be about fifty Sunflowers to show later. I am also putting together a new flower (Hummingbird and Butterfly) garden out next to the Sunflowers. Rain has slowed all my progress to a crawl... but there will be pictures soon!

I have no problems at all nope no slugs here, Barb. I just saw what WW wrote & I began to worry. so glad to hear that you have no problems. I have only grown SF 2 other times, & I had no problems with slugs either time, so I will go with that thought. Thanks

Oh my goodness I can see the birds well now. Both photos.

Nice, Bill is that fushias in the back? are they annuals there? They are near impossible to find here now, years ago they used to sell them in hanging baskets, they were so pretty.

Nice, Bill is that fushias in the back? are they annuals there? They are near impossible to find here now, years ago they used to sell them in hanging baskets, they were so pretty. Yes... I have 16 more Fuchsias (much smaller)that will be in the Bird Feeder after I get the new roof on. These are all annuals (tender perennials?) but I also have a few hardy upright Fuchsias in the Fairy Garden.

what is the blooming Pink flowers?? You are probably seeing the pink roses in the foreground, but there are also pink Dianthus, Carnations, Cosmos, Prunella, Foxgloves, Ice Plants, Erysimum, Lupines, Moss roses and Osteospermums in bloom in that garden right now. The Honeysuckle on the arbor has hot pink flowers as well. The arbor was built using a few remaining pieces of Cedar and Redwood from one of the greenhouses that burned long ago... I need a longer cable for the camera...
