Sad thing---we had a whopper of a storm last night--
and this morning we have 1 less tree on the back yard.
Apparently the winds broke it off at a weak spot at the bottom of the trunk. tears

we went shopping for another tree. But I told DH that if it died I expected to be able to replace that tree as well....seems we are waiting until the fall or early next spring now-----
I finally trapsed back into the muddy grass area around my raised garden & planted my sage. I should have taken a camera to show you all the 'grass' I am growing in my garden--rolz egad--it has been raining SO much---drat it anyway.

Well, every cherry tree I had is dead...I hoped this last one would survive but nope..discouraging.
And this year every weigela died from the branches...they are starting to grow back from the base though...not enough snow cover this winter. My yard gets barer looking each year. rolz

so sorry you have to do that. If it is any consolation, we have lost at least 4 trees and as many or more bushes since the spring of 2005.

These past few years have been terrible on our yards..oh well maybe that means I'll plant more native trees, they are free for the digging and planting thumbup

Well, I cut back the weigelas, hand raked the veggie plot, weeded the few strawberry plants that over wintered(need to buy a few) and got ate alive by flies. haha

Today I got out the lawn sweeper and I swept up about 14 bags full of freshly mowed grass, & put it on my raised veggie garden.
Take that neenee you weeds !!!!!

The only thing NOT covered is my asperagus bed. That has to be weeded very carefully then I will be able to put down paper & grass--or perhaps I will use rotted straw---we shall see why

Ok so last night after supper I went out & moved my 1 tomato plant over so I c ould fit in the 3 that my dad gave me. One is a big boy & the other 2 are going to be a surprise.--Dad saved the seed from a volunteer he had last year-- said the tomatoes were fairly large--but I fugure free is free after all...
the plant I moved is a Jolly--I like them they are not so big and I liked to eat them fresh off of the vine with salt.

then in order to fit in 4 tom plants instead of 3, I moved one of my mammoth sunflower plants.
(see dad insited that I take 3 plants instead of the 2 I wanted)

then of course I watered them all in.

lastly I took the lawn sweeper out again & swept up a few more bags & put it on the pavers I have laid out between the garden & the area I have my Black oil sunflowers planted.

I've sure been busy

I had no idea this thread existed.

This morning I mixed up some cow manure and peat moss to side dress my peppers. Then I mulched the pepper bed with #2 Bermuda hay and watered it all down. Started at 8 and had to come in at 11.

The hay smells really nice and it sure does pretty the garden up. This is the first time I've used it. Back in Cincinnati I always got "straw"-- no idea what kind other than that it came from Indiana and was the sort you'd use in a Halloween display. WHeat straw maybe? Anyway, that stuff apparently does not exist down here in Mississippi. So I hope the Bermuda hay functions the same way.

I can believe they banned that herbicide. But I can't believe they will ever ban Roundup. Monsanto's sleeping with everyone in DC. Sorry to be crass.

On a similar note, get this-- as of July 1 any cold or allergy medication with ... what's that stuff called?... diphenhydrasomething is coming off the shelves. (Stuff like sudafed.) You will have to have a prescription to get it. What crap is that? The idea is that whatever this chemical is, it can be-- and is-- used to make meth. So rather than fix the problem by finding the bad guys, they are inconveniencing the good guys. I'm stocking up.

its been off teh shelves here for about a year. You can still get it, but only 2 boxes at a time, and you have to sign your life away.

I stocked up too back in the day, but now I just go to the pharmacy sign my little name, address, etc. & get it when I need it.

wow. I didn't know see-are-a-pee was a naughty word. I'll be bleeped.

THat's how it was in Ohio. You had to sign on the dotted line. But a prescription? Oh well. Maybe we can all just stay healthy. That would show 'em!

They must have taken the killer stuff out of our weed killers cuz that Spectracide was like spraying water on the weeds.

Today I pulled a few weeds, brought in some squash, cucumbers, a few tomatoes - no green beans yet. I put out some pine needles. I tried to turn the compost pile but couldn't because the arm I broke is still weak but I did find out that it's full of pill bugs. I looked online and found out it's because the compost isn't hot enough and I should add bone meal so I went to Lowe's.

I watered and weeded the small flower bed I have in the front today.
it is so hot I cannot make myself go out & do more.
I so hope we get a "cold snap" soon.

I watered, weeded, moved rails, dug holes, inserted poles...and got mighty dirty in the process.

I hope we get rain soon, lol sounds funny coming from me but my lawn is so dry that white clover is sprouting...not a good sign.

and here I thought my white clover was sprouting because of all the rain I was getting. egad I guess no matter why it comes the white clover is not welcome.

Today I put in my new solar lights, waterd my flowers, and weeded some in the flower beds.

I was headed out to water my veggies & the ground/grass was so squishy wet that I decided the veggies in their raised beds could send their roots down to the water, so they did not need any artificial help from me.

My grandfather said, lots of clover meant poor nitrogen..I remember he'd sprinkle bags of sugar on the lawn to 'fix' it lol An old wive's tale I'm sure.

well it could be.
Rod usually spread 12-12-12 on the lawn every year. but this year with being laid off he decided that the lawn was established enough & could do without.

do ya think sugar is cheaper than fertilizer???
I really think old timers know what they are talking about after all.

I think I can buy it on sale for 2.49 a 4 pound sack, & that is not a good price in my book. every once in awhile I get lucky & find the 5 pound sacks.

so, yep, it is that much here too,and I was thinking that fertilizer was cheaper too.

We dont use much sugar here.

Only in jelly or pie.
Not sugar users.

Today I fixed up the hummingbiord feeders with fresh nectar, the thistle feeder with fersh seed, & weeded the back flower bed.

Then I went to the front & watered & fed the container flowers and my container lilac bush.

Did ya all know it is HOT out there??? lol

First l;et me say we had a T-Storm last ngiht. all in all we got 2 & 2/10 inches rain, all in a very short amount of time.

IT was so cool & wonderful out tonight. I went out to check everything.
THEN:
1) first I put up plant stakes on my flowers that needed them.
2) I weeded several areas---after all the rain it was so easy to do.
3) I checked out my veggie garden. one of my tomato plants was completely bent over---but it was not broken. I stood it back up. another one had a small brach broken dpown so I removed it.
4) I took some of my cloth tomato cloths & partially tied up 2 of my 4 tomato plants. The other 2 have circular tomato cages & so they won't need tied.

5) flwr my cherokee purple actually has a very small green tomato. flwr clap

well to give you an idea--they seem to usually start at $8.95 here.
I had to pay 9.95. This is in half gallon pots, though.

and so, of course,--I am so hoping it comes back next year...

Since I could not paint after all, I pulled more weeds, reconfigured the bricks in my water lily's half barrel, put up more braces in my flower beds, on verious flowers, pulled a few flowers to bring indoors & made more hummingbird nectar & cleaned out my 2 HB feeders.
Then I weeded my rocked area a bit & tried to cleasn off some of my brick edging. I really should go and trim grass around said bricks---

I just got in, weeded every single thing in my yard thumbup

Hoed up my pitiful veggie gardens, planted more tomatoes..also planted one upside down in an old hanging basket, planted new sunflower seeds...and planted my climbing rose.

Half gallon perennials here are never more than $6...

Todays garden chores consided of getting a new branch pruner because I broke the old one. Also getting a new chain saw chain since I ... you guessed it broke the old one lol. Do I dare mention that I was busy breaking everything I layed hands on last year?

The country folk are none to fond of me. The guy at the end of the block wanted to have a junk yard and I spoke against it. Definitely p.o.ed the neighbors.

They haven't knocked over the mail box yet though. That could be because I haven't gotten it fixed yet. I'm thinking two ft footers, brick and mortar.

Well it just seem a little rediculous to put a junk yard on a residental dead end you know? And the idea of a guy that doesn't really pay attention to the law putting hazardous waste into our water table when we are all on wells scared me spitless.

Tk

Your on the right track there. Our township has ordinances against all that stuff.
Most townships do. No no . Even tires have to be hauled away. We pay 2 dollara a tire to get rid of them. Batteries we have to trade in for the new ones.

Odd area your in.

I'm not within a city limit I'm out in the country. But they even have rules out here. Your only allowed 5 cars. He had about 75 cars. Just a tad over the limit.

I haven't done anything in the garden except count how many of my glads are planted backwards, not upsidedown, but facing the wall rather than the walkway.

Today I weeded my flowers & my herb garden. Then I tied up my tomato plants.---I had many heavy green tomato laden branches that needed help staying off of the ground.
now if they would only turn red I would be in business.. tapfoot

Then I deadheaded my flower beds.(some)
Next, with all of this humidity & the rain, I had several very tall weeds. But friends they are history. thumbup
I then took out the 7th old water lily flower, after it was done blooming and some spent lily pads, as I am supposed to do.
Finally, ladies & gentlemen I took a picture of my "TWIN" water lilies--numbers 8 & 9. bop

last but not .least I picked some new flowers for my dining room Table.

Shower followed that. thumbup

Today I transferred last night's raking efforts to the road for pick up. I watered and raked some more and got it moved to the road. I went under a sprinkler to weed in the bright sunlight. And got wet and it was wonderful. I moved my outdoor high tech thermometer out of the shade and set it in the sun. It now reads 122* and 18% humidity. Not sure if that is any more accurate than my shade reading of 102*. I shouldn't have leaned it up against a black hose maybe.

I brought it in and cooled it down to 100*. I put it back out but not leaning against a black anything this time. It has climbed to 111* so far.
Our sunlight is strong and hot right now. But with the lower humidity it keeps it more livable.

even 111 is not a good thing Tina.---Sounds like you had quite the industrous day as well, and in all of that heat too.
Temp is only 93 here now---but the humidity is high.
they say a storm is moving in. and well it should.
esp since
I only watered a few things because it is supposed to storm this afternoon.

Barb---some women like to mow grass, however, I am not one of them. If I ever find myself without someone to mow the grass, I will be paying someone to do it for me, I promise.
But more power to you for mowing your grass. thumbup

jUNIGIRL,

I am a dedicated lawn trimmer. No one else is allowed to touch it.
But of course I ride . Zero turn.
Pushing is a no no here.
Only a handful of ladys do it here.

The thing is here---all the farm wives cut the grass--theory being the DH's are too busy with the fields.

So, Rod working in his dad's elevator always heard of all the "wives" doing the lawns--so he assumed that I would be doing it when we moved into the farm. well nope, I told him right off--no grass cutting by this wife---
but yes, a Zero turn rider is the way to go---that makes it so much easier, I am sure.

Poor you . All my neighbors are city folks. Only 2 farms near us. I don't work in the fields or barn. Hd does it all.
I think it is fun mowing. Often wished I could get a job an do that for a living>LOL
Would of been more amusing than my seamstress job.

People should know not to marry the wrong type>LOL I have 2 friends who are widows. Both run their own farms, an love it . One raises sheep , the other cattle.
She has a very rich boyfriend who wants to change her ways, she refuses. Some folks(Ladies ) do love being on the farm. Men think its sexy to have wife love farming with him.LOL

Maybe I watch too many westerners movies an learned to love it .

Glad your in a New peaceful home without a job of grass.

So hopefully I'll be transplanting everything come fall and next spring I'll have great looking beds.

Well I can hope anyway.
