just happen to glance up at the feeder on the porch and saw a fat female hummer feeding.
this is at leats three weeks earlier then last year.
and nothing is in bloom right now!

congradulations!!!I have been wanting to put out my Hummingbird feeders--but thought it was too soon---you have given me the encouragement I needed. Do you have a book you keep track of such happenings in, or is your memory just very good??
Also do you know---is there a recommended height for the feeders to be at?? I fear the hook I now have is a bit low.

the one in the backyard is about 6' off the ground. the one on the front porch is probably 10' off the ground and its the one that gets most of the action.

i just know what days because i take a couple annual trips
and they seem to arrive just after i get back.

I hang most of mine from my willow tree about 7'- 8' feet up. I have one on a Shepherd's Hook about 5' feet up. WHEN the hummers decide to come they use them ALL equally as much.

Four hummers at the feeder this morning, the two regulars and two new ones.
They had some kind of fight and zoomed off.
My feeder is a cedar house with a brass roof, and the bottle inside. It has 4 flower nozzles.
Thorny, you should see Saltflower staring when the cottontail is in the yard.
I'll bet they met often when Saltflower was a stray.

I am so glad Saltflower adopted you, Deborah. Two Beans has been a little grumpy this week. He has been growling and grunting at me a lot. The other day he roared at me and lunged, biting my finger SEVERELY, just because I tried to scratch and massage his ear. A handfull of Frosted Mini Wheats cheered him right up, though, and we are back to being friends. He is hopping around right now redistributing and shredding the newspaper in his cage. Remember, Deborah, try to avoid rearranging Saltflowers living quarters. Bunnies get QUITE angry with you when you do that.

I keep Saltflower's yardlet and crate the same.
If you got Two Beans a stuffed rabbit would he calm down?
Salt just LOVES his "dolly" and sleeps with it, washes it alot, and uses it as a pillow. Talk about cute.
He gets frantic if I forget to put the doll in with him, both in his yardlet and his crate. Really attached to it.
I bought three dolls to have spares.
He doesn't drink much water, does Two Beans? Because of that, I drench his Romaine and kale before I give it to him, and this way he's getting more water.

I bought a lifesized chocolate brown stuffed bunny for $1.50 at an after Easter Sale. I collect plushies. I think I'll see what Two Bean Bags thinks of it. He tries to mate with our Dustmop.

The ones I got for Saltflower are about his size, and look like him-white with pink ears and dark eyes.
It was so amazing when I first put it in his yardlet-he recognized it as a rabbit becasue its ears stick up like his, and ran right to it.
And it's true love ever since.
I think we're gonna get transferred over to the critter thread if we keep on about our rabbits here. LOL !
