I just heard on HGTV that if you add 2 drops of vanilla to your inside paint that your house won't smell like paint when you're finished.

i've heard that for oil-based paints. don't know if it works as you usually use latex-based inside these days (so, i've never had need to try it)... actually, oil-based paints aren't really available now (at least here in pa, dunno if that's a nationwide thing).
even tho latex stuff doesn't smell all that bad and dries pretty quickly, it certainly couldn't hurt to add the vanilla. let us know if it makes a difference!

You can also buy low-VOC paint or no-VOC paint for indoor use. VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compounds which are the ingredients that emit the odors because they actually produce a breathable gas. It is recommended that no-VOC paint is used in homes of pregnant women or where there are very young children if the painting is to occur while the family are in residence and/or the house can't be adequately aired out.
The vanilla does make a difference in the odor of the paint but I'm not sure how likely it is to change the level of the VOC's which is the real problem.
