I am so pleased!! flwr after just a few house finches and an occasional goldfinch--(winter feathers mainly) I am proud to announce that today I have about 4 sets of goldfinches fighting over the feeder--(I need to go re-fill it)

I was concerned because I had to replace my feeder, and had bought an upright one as they were less expensive--so my husband "turned it into" an unside down feeder as well--it has taken about 4 weeks, but the birds finally took to it!!
Yea for me!!!! bop

yea I thought so Thorny but they seemed not to accept my new feeder any too readily---but now all is well-- and as I said, I am happy--but then I please easy.

About my amended feeder--with not many trees here now & those being small, I needed to adapt the program & make do with what hangers I have while I wait for the trees to grow larger. Hence the double duty feeder. But it seems to work out well. We did it the oposite way on an upsidedown feeder before, but this just took a bit for the birds to catch on with this way I guess.

It was a flock of Goldfinches that made me take up birding over 18 years ago. That's why I chose a Goldfinch as my avatar here.

Thorny, do we have goldfinches out here?
I saw a bright yellow bird with black wings in the backyard this weekend, and it was a first.
We don't normally have brightly colored birds here so I thought it was a parakeet that escaped, but it was bigger than a parakeet.

Deborah, you have TWO species of Goldfinches where you live. The American Goldfinch that we have here in the eastyern U.S. and Canada, AND the Lesser Goldfinch which is a West Coast Goldfinch. The Lesser Goldfinch is solid black above with white wing bars and spots and solid BRIGHT yellow below. THe American Goldfinch is basically BRIGHT yellow all over except for Black wings with white wing bars and on the males a black forhead patch and cap. Go to Google Image Search and look up these two species or look at my avatar on this post. My avatar is a male AMERICAN Goldfinch.

yes it was the goldfinches and the hummers that got me started--many years ago when the kids were small & looking out the window was easy entertainment. I must say it was my oldest daughter that got me started planting flowers--she loved them so--still does.
