Thanks so much Barb. I read online how poppies have delicate root systems and could be hard to start....i hope they do get a good start. Again thanks.

This year is transplant or cut down trees year I guess. So far I've transplanted two arbor day foundation trees and one pine. I still have one arbor day foundation tree to transplant. It has white paint on it's trunk. I can't remember which type of tree that is. I'm hoping it is the red bud.
Then I'm cutting grass and incorporating it in the compost pile. When I'm not doing that I'm digging up rocks and moving them into the edging. The rain has been a real help with all of the digging.

Since the yard is off limits for the next couple of weeks till the back yard gets saturated and the guys come back to lay the pad and finish leveling the rest of the yard, I've been working on indoor projects...
I bought a 70" Credenza for my bedroom (to replace a fold up table I had that was falling apart), it is in a 72" space... Imagine if you will, it weighs easily over 300lbs and I had to get it up 2 flights of stairs and through two hallways and my dining room... I didn't get any help until I threw in the towel and called a moving company to help me get it up the 17 stair stair well this afternoon lol... I just didn't feel like having it fall on me when I was pushing it up the stairs lol...
I had to completely take apart my room (pretty small room)... First I had to take everything and put it on my bed just to get the credenza in the room, then I had to move everything to the hallway (including the bed) to slide it into its defined area (the area is smaller than the rest of the room due to the closet in the spare room treading into my room).
It's finally in my room (better half of the day's worth of project) but now I have to go to Walmart to snag a couple of those "easy move" pads to go on the bottom of the credenza so that if/when I have to move it I don't give myself a heart attack lol.
I'm really excited to start on some yard projects, but it's all on hold waiting for the landscaping company to lay the 14' cement pad so that I can test out my paver system and then do measurements for a chicken coop, a small pool, and a large raised garden bed.

I plan to take (and eventually post) lots and lots of pictures; still have a couple of things to do in the front yard too, but I'm waiting for the neighbors to finish their new fence before I take and finish and take some after photos.
And Chicken Coop for eggs! Yummy, delicious, eggs...

I've been thinking about getting chickens but my friends who have them say they have more eggs than they know what to do with. They give me what I need so I may not do it.

Brown or white eggs? What kind of chickens? I used to do them, but found it cheaper in the store. I live on a farm.. Was thinking of Speckled Sussex or Buff Orpington so brown eggs; I have a friend in Oregon City and she has this tiny little chicken that lays the most colorful speckled blue eggs... Just thought it was amusing to hear a city folk an chicken coop. We've had a lot of neighbors in the area with chickens; and hey, I may live NEAR Portland but theres a fully functional farm about a block from my house lol. You have lots of hobbys.....Good luck. Indeed, always keep busy! I've been thinking about getting chickens but my friends who have them say they have more eggs than they know what to do with. They give me what I need so I may not do it. Depends on the breed my dear, a Speckled Sussex for example lays about 4 eggs a week; so depending on how many eggs you WANT per week, and how many chickens you'd want, you can have any real amount... I wanted a dual purpose breed, one that can lay eggs and (if the issue arose) we could eat since it's a big bird.

I disliked cleaning the coops. Butchering I hated too. Was glad to quit.. A friend provided eggs to us after.
Have fun

yes, my DH thought we should have chickens when we lived on "the farm"--I told him "I am not a farm hand" and I will not clean coops and I will not kill or clean chickens...

hummmmmmm, compost additive for lasgna beds. Hard to resist that except I already have more flower beds than I can weed. I thought about chickens at one point too but the idea of constantly having to move their yard around just seemed like more trouble than it was worth. I raked up the grass I cut, put it in the compost pile. transplanted another one of my arbor day foundation trees. Moved some more rocks. Tied up the peonies that are in bloom. Loving the garden even if it is soggy.

Well, I'll be retrofitting a shed for it, so cleanup will be as easy as using a broom and dust pan... Already less work than dealing with the guinea pigs lol.

Well, they'll have a pretty decent sized run, water and feeders available inside and out, and there will be a bar in the rear to roost on with one of those troth things you put under the long planter boxes to catch water to catch poo... And I'm planning on having 4 boxes for them to lay eggs in :P...

Today I planted more Stepables Moss in the back under my water faucet. I added more Baby's Tears--The Scotch Moss was doing so very well, I thought to add more of the B tears to compliment it---Now if I can only keep it wet enough to take hold.... Then I moved on to the front & planted my large pot that I keep on my porch--I do this one pot and the 2 I keep on my front steps in Annuals---but usually use the same ones---- This year I got 2 containers of blue Lobelia, 2 Vinca Vines, 2 spikes...(Dracaena--They go in the center)...2 calibrachoa, one a double---and 1 pk of Bonanza Yellow Marigolds. The marigolds are new this year, as I was on the lookout for a yellow flower & this one won the search... Now all I have to do is a few pots in the front & I can move onto the back & see what needs done there---

Well, when it comes to that pot, I like what I like in it, Barb---and over the years it has become sort of a tradition with me---I have people asking me what I planted in it so they can duplicate it...
I will take a picture of the moss soon----

Yesterday I planted 2 tomatoes, for a total of 3 in my garden. I planted a Heirloom "Brandywine", and a Celebrity, to add to my Jet Star. Today I will fill a new pot I bought for my deck and add the patio tomato plant that I bought and a very small Sweet Basil plant that I have----I recently bought a new basil plant for my herb garden and it held 2 plants--yay me !!

Dodge, When I am desperate I buy store bought canned beets & make them into pickled beets. While it is not as good as doing it with fresh beets it is a good second place option.

well I dont trust myself completely so I usually freeze what I want to preserve--but the pickling is a bit safer, so I will do that--usually I do it with my mom, & we make enough to last for the year, with me doing a refrigerator type pickled beet when we run out--- when I do that, I only make what I can use in say 2 weeks-to 1 month
