Yes the same here...

Things are about the same today. Yesterday they discovered that he has heart failure. If they need to they can put him on meds to help his heart beat stronger and dilate the valves so it doesn't have to push so hard to get the blood through. Cardiology will be seeing him today. Peep is still at 8. He's being tube fed and handling that well. They've had to increase the insulin drip which was to be expected when the feeding started. They are calling him insulin resistant and will basically need to take care of himself like a type 1 diabetes and will always need insulin. His pulse is good, his temp is good, his bp is good although he is on a pressor. So, still critical yet stable. Thanks for all the prayers.

I am trying to figure if this is good news or not. I'm thinking he is fighting and that is basically good. Did he already have diabetes?
Prayers still continue for you and yours. I am really feeling for your kids in all this mess as well. It must be very hard on them too.

He did already have diabetes but for how long we don't know. All we know is that it has been out of control for some time. Having consistently high blood sugars is tough on your body and could explain the kidney failure. The sepsis also has a lot to do with the organ failure he is having. They believe his liver is in shock and will bounce back. They have faith that his kidney function will return to normal so that is hopeful news. He will have to live with some sort of degree of heart failure. It could be the infection making it worse and it could improve somewhat when he is better. His temp is trying to creep up again and they're not sure why so they are ordering new labs. He is starting to respond to things, which they say is good although it looks freaky to me and makes me think he is feeling too much but they say he isn't and he won't remember any of this. He is doing well with the dialysis so far. They got 2 liters off him yesterday and almost 2.5 today so that's good. They turning and rotating him regularly, his skin is good. They checked him for blood clots today and all is good. He is getting regular doses of heparin to prevent blood clots and it seems to be working. He's in very serious condition but we do see tiny improvements each day and any improvements at this point is a good thing.

Thank you all so much. Everything seems to be going in the right direction, although very slowly. Slow progress is still progress and I'll take it.

Oh, I forgot to mention (I think ) that he started responding a lot today. He tries to open his eyes when we talk to him. The nurses have been able to get him to squeeze their hands and wiggle his toes. The doc assures me he won't remember any of the uncomfortable things he reacts too but it is comforting to us to see that he responds to our voices.

DH's heart is doing better so they took him off the heavy duty stuff and put him on something else that goes through his feeding tube and will most likely be the medication he leaves the hospital with. They turned his peep down to 5, ventilator o2 is set to 55%, down from 65%. Kidneys look good, no more dialysis. He does now have pancreatitis so they pushed down his feeding tube to bypass the pancreas. Liver is still wonky but should bounce back. He spiked another fever, probably from the pancreatitis, and they have him back on ice blankets. Overall things are moving in the right direction but he's still got a long way to go. They took him off sedation long enough to see how well he follows commands and he passed with flying colors so they put back his sedation to half the rate and he's doing well with that.

I am thrilled!!!!
