well while my dishwasher may be costing me money, my family was a lot more healthy after we got our first disheasher that I remember, so I like using one. I will say Barb, that if I were alone & my dishwasher broke--I would be hard pressed to spend the money on another... I would surely use Olive oil but it goes rancid too soon as I do not use that much oil for any reason and----& I was told not to use vegetable or corn oil....I am thinking this is like anything else, it depends on which Dr you speak to..they all have different ideas..

I did get the flu this year, Dodge. But it was a shortened version of what some got. So I'll take it. It had been about 10 years since I've had flu. And also since my son had it last. It was rampant in his school this year. I drive him and take him into school every day. I keep in somewhat of decent shape working around the house. Gardening on hillsides and cutting and hauling firewood for warmth, etc.

Juni girl...not sure how you have proof the dishwasher made your bunch healthy? I could not stand the way the dirty dishes set till time to wash then.. And not sure the washing powder is anymore safe than liquids we hand wash.
Tina Your theory of organic foods. Are the veggies grown in dirty outside? DO you know how much gook an junk in the soil an air around them are? Of course farmers use manure an that is a organic must .DO you know what manura an compost are made of/ More germs than one can imagine.. I arent an organic nut, but lived off my own grown veggies an fruit all my life. Depends who you talk to. They say the food picked in california ..has people doing their toilet training on them.

Did you know this? Dish washer soaps contain high Levels o PHosphorus which damages life in the Rivers.
Still didnt tell me how it made your family healthier? Doing dishes by hand had more to do with keeping you from strokes than having them.

I think the main problem with hand washing dishes it NOT getting all the soap rinsed off. The soap causes stomach upsets. My grandfather would rinse, put the dishes in the drain, then rinse with boiling water.
Was it ever found out exactly how e coli got into that spinach? Was it water run off or what?
I try to eat organic too. I just don't trust pesticides. It's more expensive though.
Juniegirl, what's wrong with vegetable oil? Does your doctor say why?

If they told me I have forgoten But I think it had to do with the type of fat in say corn or vegetable oil, Sheri.
Barb--I think the dishwasher kills more germs (like cold & flu) due to it sterlizing the dishes than I did when I washed by hand...
I dont recall hearing about the spinach either.
I cant afford to eat organic, althought it would be best--so I try to wash things really well before I eat them
