okay that's weird i was responding to a new topic of CIndy's but when I clicked submit it jumped here to coffee house and Cindy's topic, Am I alone here disappeared,,

OK did I use the wrong name--?? Look at Diane's post right under your post here---the picture under her name----mine is a kitty face--- on my computer there is a white box with a red x in it instead of her picture--it is also that way with bestofour..

I did not walk into any rooms and turn on light switches. The electricity went out after I was asleep. I noticed it was out because my carbon monoxide detector beeps once. But I would have just gone back to sleep except my dog was disturbed. So I sat up with him in the dark for a bit and then insisted he go back to bed.
My freezers and fridges would have been good until I could start a generator in daylight if needed. So I rested well and the electricity was only down an hour or so.
I have about 30 cheap new solar path lights set aside to use indoors if I need them. My main bathroom is an interior room with no windows. It is dark even in broad daylight. I have a lovely vase with the path lights stuck in it to pull the tabs on to put in there if we need. And some to carry around the house at night. They can be set in the sun to recharge in daylight hours. I have a mess of propane lanterns and the bottles they need and extra mantles. I have made a dozen 100 hour candles I made from canning jars and have a lot of extra fuel oil for those. Plus I have a mess of tactical flashlights and other types.
I live on the San Andreas Fault and believe in being prepared.
That is just lighting, I also have alternative heating and cooking sources. And a bunch of stored food to cook or just to heat and eat. This is an active investment for me because what I pay today is not going to be the prices available a year from now. A better return than I get in my IRA tucked away in the stock markets.

Oh yes! I have to say however that never happens anymore. Several years ago, we had the house wired for a generator, it runs everything, but the stove... ????
But it is a god send, cause living out in the boonies in this area I swear the power goes out for no reason, sun will be shining, no wind, Poof! OLD area and according to the linesmen I talked to over the years..( Was on a first name basis with a few of them some years ago) LOL The lines are ancient and need replacing.

sure we can !!! and I for one cannot wait !!!!!!!

So far I cannot see Diane's, Sheri's, Susydaze or Tina's---but then not everyone had been back yet to be checked on.

well I see everyone's avatars now--and I have my watch---they fixed the stem AND gave me a new crystal as well--it looks like new--YAY !!!! I have not had a watch on for so long I do not know how to act!!!!

ok--did I call that by the wrong name too??? The glass cover part of the watch...mine was scratched but I didnt ask to have that repaired, I thought that was being picky--apparently they were kind and replaced that as well--now it is just like I went out & bought a new watch.

Yep, Ditchy, I have a generator ready to roll...but if the electric went out in the middle of the night I doubt I could start it. I have never used it before. I keep saying I need to start it during the day to make sure if the electric goes out (happens often here) I will know how to go it...but I walk past it twice a day when I go to feed the stray cats and I always think "Next time I will try to start that generator."

PS...I just went to garden helper homepage and clicked on "forums" and they have a forum but it's not us. That's a weird feeling! I think I will drink.

PSS...so, technically, since there is a link to TGH every time you post "Garden Helper" on here, we are putting a link to a garden site that has a forum.

Yup, that's one of many things on my list that need fixed... I actually have a listing of every instance of thegardenhelper on this site that I need to sort through...

I saw that last night--it sure was weird !!! and it was not an easily navigated forum either (to my notion)

OMG I just went there too, it's sooo clinical,, Not at all like our forum,, it looks cold and uninviting , IF I were just starting out I wouldn't join there,, so glad I found tgh several years ago, and even MORE GLAD we still have our Forum Here
