Good morning. Well, that really sucks, James. If I did solar, I'd want a battery bank as well. I would love to go off grid completely. I certainly have enough sun and wind to do that here. I just do not have the technical ability to do it myself and for the maintenance involved.

Diane, I had that problem. Mine was a deficiency of some sort---so I would tell your Dr the next time you go.

James I hope you get something worked out.

Good Morning everyone---I am off to paint....seems I am finally allowed to "help" again...

Well, it's how the federal incentive program works; if I where to pay for the $70k system out of pocket I could have done anything I wanted to do with it, but I opted to spent $7k and use the incentives and lease (planning to buy the lease at the end of the term for low money since there isn't a market for out of warranty solar panels at that point).

What I'm going to have to do is charge the battery bank off of what i'm feeding the power company (and possibly have a switch installed so that if something happened i could charge the batteries off of the panels) then have a sensor installed to switch us from the grid to our battery bank when the power goes out, then to switch back when it comes back...

I also want to install a "whole house surge protector", they're not really that expensive and it'd save a lot of heartache lol

I do have a large generator (gas) and a transfer switch. I can manually switch from the grid to generator only. Also have the house surge protector thingy. Working on getting my ducks in a row here.

that is interesting about the house surge protector. Where would I begin to look for such a thing as that ???

I am indoors having some coffee while I wait until I can paint the second coat on some of what I painted this morning. I did find out one curious thing. This paint will scrub up from the concrete floor-- thumbup

They make a monitor that can switch back and forth; but I'm not sure how that'd work with a gas generator though lol... With the electrical ones they can switch so fast that you don't really even notice a fluxuation, it's pretty crazy... But then you have to deal with the failure of electronic components I suppose...

Well, you'd want a certified electrician to install it, so it'd probably be easiest to just call one and ask about it... Online research will bombard you with a plethora of information, but a lot of it is far too technical to really be of any good...

Well, knowing my DH the hiring of an electrician will not happen, but thanks for saving me lots of time on research, James...

I don't like hiring contractors myself for things I know I can do, but things like electric I'd prefer the insurance of "if it's not installed right, I can get someone in to repair their work" lol...

Oh I agree. But the man who makes the rules does not--he would rather just NOT do it----can't be wrong if you don't do anything. shock

I will likely be gone the rest of tonight--severe weather headed this way---2.2 inch hail for starters. It should be here in 2 hours give or take. We made room in the "currently being painted" garage for 1 vehicle. care to guess which one made the cut ??? rolz

Lol, better hope the county/city doesn't come to check out work then, there can be hefty fines if things aren't done correctly :/.

Very young, James. I am 62 and a half. Well in a couple of weeks. I don't know how old most others are but I believe I am older than Carol.
Busy day. I spent some time on repairing outdoor plumbing. And some time on indoor cleaning. I'm tired. Sweet dreams all.

OK-Tina I will be 61 on June 8. so yes that makes James pretty much the baby around here.

We didn't get a real bad part of the storm, but we were w/o power for 12 hours almost to the minute----But, I threw away a lot of the items in the fridge...oh well, that is one way to clean out things I guess. All I lost in the freezers were the Pizzas...everything else was frozen solid yet--I got lucky.

And as the pizzas were cold yet, guess what we will be eating today ??? shewinks

I'm so sad today tears ,, A Book Bill sent me must have been stolen sometime in my home, when I first moved in here I had the book and used it several times,, I Loved that book, had pages tagged for references and everything,, Barnes and Nobles doesnt sell it anymore,, I can't find it to replace it I'm so saddened about this,, Bill wrote in it for me,,
I always kept it by my bed on the night stand, ALWAYS I'd read it at night or when I needed a quiet moment I'd go look at it and relax and Wish.
It's too big and thick to have misplaced,, the boys even remember it being on my night stand, boohoo boohoo
boohoo

it was,, Park's Success with seed (Hardcover)
by Karen Park Jennings (Author) it showed the seeds close up, the sprout, the true leaves and the full growth, how to germinate, soil conditions, light conditions,, everything anyone would need to grow seeds , hundreds of seeds and flowers, I'm just heart broken tears

have you checked with E-bay, Diane--I often find things I am needing there. Even an old used copy would be better than nothing...

James I have 3 kids older than you and 2 grands only 7 yrs younger than you.. I will be 63 this Sept.... so guess I am an older sis.... LOL!

Woke up way to early today, wanted to sleep in but it got to light in my room... need to put up my room darkening drapes again... or get a sleep mask...

I tried an experiment for dinner last night- soaked 3 porkchops in Italian dressing for a short time, and then coated in breadcrumbs- oven baked them and they were so good, even Joe liked them and he usually only likes stuff he has had over and over...made scallops taters to go with and broccoli ... made a good dinner..

Well off to get something done today... got to feed my roses and get some cleaning done..

Nana

Diane - that sounds like a wonderful book - so sorry you don't have it anymore.

Carol - so sorry you lost power for so long - is it still very hot there?

It's going to be in the mid 90's here today. I have planting to do, but cannot motivate myself to go out in that heat again. I went plant shopping yesterday afternoon while it was 93 and that got to be too much. UHG!

High today is to be 76--and it is 63 right now.

DH is painting the garage---all alone--I had to clean out the fridge of some items but thankfully everything was still frozen in my deep freeze.

Those chops do sound good, Nana. I have used the italian dressing on steaks and on chicken before. I'm not sure if I have on chops. Once in a while I buy pork but am often disappointed. It used to be one of the few meats that didn't need much more than a little salt. Now they have bred the flavor right out of them.

Hi all,
Typing on my IPad ,,not so easy. LOL!
Diane I did use Panko bread crumbs,,they were thin bone in chops. , baked at 450 for about 45 min...came out. Moist and good. We don't eat a lot of pork either ,maybe twice a month. Lots of chicken ..ground turkey, and fish...
I need to grocery shop today too... Out of fresh stuff... I am at Carries with Derek, Jon took other boys to Bailey for family graduation...he tried to go but got anxious so Carrie called me from work and I got here a few min later..had made some baked ravioli for lunch so brought it with me,,he ate about half of it... Carrie should be home soon and I will be heading home... Then I can get my roses fed finally.

Well off to see what else I can do here...
Nana

I can barely type enough on Teddy's iPad to download his apps. I like space on my keyboard.
Busy day. Did banking, shopping and paid my bills. I am so grateful that I can pay bills. I have enough food in the house to feed a small army. I have no interest in cooking any of it today. It is too hot to think about cooking or eating hot foods. Maybe something quick when/if it cools off tonight.
