I lost my horseradish roots. I knew I should have pulled them up last year. But I didn't and now I can't find them. Grrrrrh. Hope I can trade for some more. Not that I have much to trade.

Hi Lorena, I would be thrilled to get some more horseradish. I am completely out. Wish I hadn't lost my roots. I'm tempted by the lemonbalm. But I have awful luck with starts most of the time. So I'll say no. Although I am tempted. I hope you find several things on the trade list that you want. I don't think it would be fair to just trade one seed packet for the root. Since the root costs more to ship.

Woohoo it sent up a leaf so I found it. Woohoo. I'm very pleased. It should be one good sized root this year. And that means this fall I can chop it up and replant some of it right?

I was jusssssssssst going to post on your first post that I don't know how you lost it........ That stuff is verrrrrry hardy and over winter's up here.. and creeps along like a slow moving wildfire really...
Glad it's up.. *but remember, some take a wee~bit of time to finally poke their heads out of the dirt..

Thanks weezie. I thought I might have dug it up and thrown it way or into the compost pile. I'm still working on improving the soil so I do a lot of dirt moving for such a little patch of ground lol. And while I was doing that I didn't see the root so I got worried. But it's there. And it has two shoots this year rather than just one so I guess it is happy.

Yup, horseradish is tough. I just dug mine a couple of weeks ago and have it in the fridge. I haven't prepared any of it though. I chop it as fine as I can in a blender or my Vita-Mix with some vinegar and mayonnaise. I use it on meats, especially roast beef and sometimes on hotdogs. It's great on tuna patties also. Or to make cocktail sauce for fish with some ketchup.

so true. I'm so backwards I still grade mine with a cheese grader until it's down to knuckle grinding size lol. That piece goes in the little onion chopper I have. This year I may try breaking it down even further using the coffee grinder. It does a good job on the spices.
