48*F here and the sun is out--BUT that does not mean as much as it might...

Believe me this time of year the sun does not mean as much as it does in the summer....

How did Ted enjoy Santa at the school, Tina?

Wish I had some turtle bars right now grin

It's warm this week, it's 38 out and it has been about that all week; last week we had a cold front and it was in the single digits for a while (and I chose till then to run around and make sure everything was weatherized, which it was not lol).

We had snow for all of 20 minutes last week, it was nice; it doesn't really snow much in the Willamette Valley here in the Portland, Oregon area... Usually if we want to see snow we have to drive up to one of many mountains to partake.

Brrrr, too cold for me even without wind.
Teddy likes Santa. He always has. He does not like cameras and most mall santa's have that 'weapon' prominently pointed at Santa's victims. He came home with a Toy Story memory game that he chose for himself. So he was very happy. When he is happy, I am happy and together we are happy a lot.

I heard a strange sound when I went out to unplug the Christmas lights tonight. Turns out it was just the snow dripping down the gutter in the front of the house.. lol

it is 43 yet at 10:19 tonight.

I am so very tired----I hope I am not getting Rod's cold...

I need to be sleeping--why is it we wake earlier than we have to Tina? I think I am getting my DH's cold--which is not a good Thing. Valarie is coming Saturday.

Today I have to go to the ladies Aide meeting at our church--I do think I am going to quit belonging to that. They only have a meeting once every other month--and it never fasils to be when I have another commitment.

I think I am going to take one last look around the local stores to make sure I have all that I need.

If you spread the cold to the ladies aide, they may vote you right out, Carol. kissie
I decided not to go out today. It is raining already although the bulk of the rain is supposed to happen this afternoon. So I lit my fire for the first time in a few days and will toss italian sausages into the crock for adding to later. Not sure what it will end up being by tonight. Maybe just sausages with sweet peppers and onions and such with a pasta or rice side.

That sounds yummy to me Tina.

Change of plans here too. My daughter asked me to come and babysit for her so she could get her chrismas shopping done after all. So I am rushing around to get teh ladies aide stuff done & myself packed as I will spend the night at my daughters--i will not drive back here tonight just to sleep & then drive back in the rain tomorrow morning.

so I wish everyone a great few days--I may be able to get online at my daughrers & maybe not--we will see.

Enjoy your baby time, Carol. I'm thinking you are going to need a to-go bag constantly packed for the next couple of years. Having it handy may save you some stresses.

I want sausages lol That Tina has me craving all the time.

Have fun with baby, Carol kissie

Hope you are feeling better Cheryl thumbup

Not much planned today, grandbaby is here until Christmas..might I add because her mother is spiting me and refuses to put up a Christmas tree for her. Some day Karma will spite that girl back.

Supposed to snow a bit this afternoon and then give us a bad one on Sunday and Monday. Let the Christmas rush panic begin here for the ones who wait until the last to get it done.

Good Morning ,

Hi all... been running again... Nicoli and now Derek are both sick... went and helped Carrie get house cleaned up this morning .. got boys meds and back to sleep .. her back to sleep too... she works tonit late so needs to sleep now ... finally got new med from dermatologist for the roseacea he gave me tetracycline pills for.. to replace the cream he wanted to give me for 250.. insurance won't cover... but it won't be in till Mon... must say the pills are working ... acne at 63 is for the birds!

Well since I have the day off now I am sticking some round steak and peppers in the crockpot for dinner.. will make some mashed taters to go with and then clean house some... may end up with Christmas dinner here if boys are still sick....

Have a good day all!

Nana

Nana has me craving a roast in the crockpot. I think I will bring one out of the freezer to do tomorrow.
I was not panicky but I did go christmas shopping today. My small Christmas is done now. Except maybe some tangerines and apples and such that I prefer fresh. I do need to wrap some things.
I came home and cleaned out my large walkin closet. Reorganized it and covered the luggage in clear plastic and took those out to the storage shed. Made more room to store something else. grin
I cleaned up the master bath which we rarely use. But my daughter's cat's litter box is in there. So sweeping is necessary often enough. I may be done for the day except for dinner.

Nana makes me hungry,
Tina makes me wish I were more organized &
Sunny--well she makes me wish I had more Baby time.

I "WILL" say if I had more baby time, I would weigh way less--thet boy NEVER stops..well unless yoiu tell him it is nappy time. Then he will lay his head on your shoulder & go to sleep.--BUT if you just go into his room he picks one book after another to read.----

BTW: I should be wrapping gifts just now---LOL

It is time to teach the kid to count. 2 books only. 5 pieces of cereal, etc. One hug. It really helps with math concepts later and helps to teach limits now. And it can be fun.
It was a good day. I need to get more wrapping done. But not tonight. I never napped.

Good morning. I have a roast with onions in the crock. It will be good later today. It was still half frozen which I really like. Keeps it pink in the middle.
I will wrap stuff today. And clean house. It is not just women's work, I think. It is Mother's work. And I really love it.

Good morning. We're having family Christmas today and I'm cooking. Making spiral cut ham, goose, au gratin potatoes, green beans, salad, and rolls. Hope the goose is good. None of us has ever had it so it's an experiment for sure.

Thanks for the kind words Dodge.

Your meal sounds wonderful Cheryl.

I am storm stuck, I wanted to take grandbaby out to a kids Christmas party but the roads are terrible.

I am glad you are keeping safe Sunny. It isn't worth it to endanger your granddaughter or yourself.
Cheryl, happy cooking. I like goose.
Dodge, I am in the middle of 5 siblings, all living. But none too close to me. I have 5 children all adults from age 41 to 19. Holidays are fun with them.
I went out to purchase some bakery goodies for the weekend snacking. My oven is giving me tizzy-fits and I am not ready to call in service people for it.

Keep safe from me as well Cindy.

We have been getting a lot of snow, we need it for insulation but so close to Christmas makes it hard for families travelling and those last minute shoppers. Another storm for today..10 inches they say.

Ten inches is a lot of snow. You keep you and yours safe too up there, Sunny.
Good morning. I slept in until 5 am. Beginning to get back onto my preferred sleep schedule. It is also a couple of degrees warmer this morning. I'll take a sunny, mild Christmas any day.

I got everything wrapped this morning. Realized I am a single gift short for my oldest daughter. I may actually have to shop again. I do have a gift card that I could give her. But I'd rather have wrapped gift under the tree.

Well all of the gifts that are going to my younest's house are wrapped, and she has taken them to her house. My Valarie's DH's gifts are wrapped as well, but are here. I only have to wrap my husband's & Valarie's gifts. I think we will open them Christmas Eve night, here. It will be that much less to haul to Emily's Christmas morning, and that much less time to spend at Emily's so that Brian (Val's DH) will not get antsy Christmas morning--he most likly has promised his mom he would be home well before he can ever possibly make it. teach

I have been going non-stop since thursday morning so I am taking this afternoon off---tonight I will start wrapping again & then hopefully finish tomorrow.

I have to bake a pie for Christmas day as my niece has graciously offered to ask us over there. I will do that Christmas eve morning.

Good afternoon. We had Christmas at our house last night. Had a good night. Got some new pj's from my mom and have been lounging in them all day. Got all the dishes done today and now I'm just relaxing and watching the game.

Sounds like everyone has their plans underway. Glad you got invited out Juniegirl.

I always keep extra chocolates for last minute gift giving...and hope I can keep them all for myself lol

Still storming out...it does look pretty out there though.

Cheryl--new warm & cozy Pj's--THAT sounds heavenly---I am glad that you got to enjoy them.

Dodge--You are so sweet, you made me smile--Bless you so much. I too often wonder why I am in such a cold state as Illinois--been asking myself that for almost 35 years now--but the answer is my family is here...

Sunny--I keep a few extra gifts around too---but your idea is better---if I bought chocolates, I would have them left over for ME !!! Excellent thinking--thanks for sharing !!!

Going to bed soon--night night---

I have 3 sisters. One in West Virginia, one in Asheville, NC, and 1 in Belmont, NC. Of course the WV one is the furthest away. Between us we have 10 children who live in various places but not millions of miles away and between those 10 children they have us 12 grand children.

Johnny and I took our gang to the Great Wolfe Lodge this weekend. If you have one close to you, and you and yours like the water, it's the most fun place on earth.

WOW !! That is quite the family, Sheri ! You are one fortunate girl.

That lodge sounds like a wonderful place. I dont think we have one close though, as I have not ever heard of them.

Did you get any photos ???

I have heard of Great Wolf Lodges and have had friends who took their kids to them in various states. I've looked up the websites for pictures of what is available. But I live a short way from Disneyland and that is my favored place to take my kids. I am glad you had fun, Sheri.
Sweet dreams all. I'll be going to a store tomorrow to pick up our traditional Christmas fruit. But other than a little cooking, I have no major plans.

Good morning all.

Well Tina, remember the 'feast or famine'? We are feasting..beyond measure. The snow is becoming horrid. It will just not let up. I know we need it but with all the travelling that people have to do around the holidays..it's getting hectic. There will be a few families spending their Xmas at the airports..so sad.

I agree Dodge, I should have flew with the geese down South lol

BTW: Can someone drop me off a few bananas? I need to make a few cheesecakes tomorrow haha

I have never used bananas in cheesecakes. I bet they are good. I make and eat so little cheesecake and berries are my fruit of choice so that is what gets done here mostly. But a cheese cake is a good idea. I may do that tomorrow for Christmas Day.
I went out and got that gift I was shorting my older daughter. And the fruit for our day. The grocery store was pretty crowded but with polite people and plenty of checkers. I bought my daughter an assortment of foot care items and I have a basket to tuck them into. Jonni got her a footbath that was on her list. Ted got her the slippers that were on the list too. So she is having a foot themed Christmas. Thank goodness for basket sales at Michael's after Easter.

I deserve no efficiency awards. My failures all outweigh my successes, I think. I only post about the good stuff done. In my younger years I could whip through and clean the whole house in the time it takes me to clean the bathrooms now.
I tried on a nap for size but it didn't happen. The rest did me good though and I will take it.

There are MANY awards that Tina deserves, Barb---and yes that one for sure !!!

I am hoping & praying that the weather holds out in my area, so that I get to see my Valarie. I am a greedy Momma I know--but I just love being with my Girls & their families.

Tomorrow I will make a Breakfast casserole for supper and then I will makle 1 or 2 pies to bring to my nieces for Christmas day.--I have no idea waht lunch will be----sandwiches I guess--- why

I already have cookies made to take to Emily's for breakfast on Christmas Morning. They are oatmeal cookies so we are going to pretend that it is oatmeal & eggs to go with our Coffee. It's ok to do it that way for one day right ???

And this is why we have the fruit tradition for Christmas. It was a touch of nutrition when not everything was so much.
In the 70's I had a borrowed cookbook about nutrition in desserts. I used to send my kids to school with chocolate pudding and really good oatmeal cookies for breakfast. They were chock full of protein and lighter on the sugar than traditional stuff. The secret was bean flour mixed in those cookies. And eggs cooked in the puddings. For lunches and dinners at home I learned to make some wicked bean dips and hummus and things along with home made crackers and chips that held healthier options. Life was a party and the kids loved it. I still love hummus a lot.

Good morning all..

It is still storming but we are supposed to get a break in the weather later, hope so..I still have a half hour drive to pick up my daughter later. Thinking I might have to hitch up the horse and sleigh grin

Home made pudding and cookies sound wonderful Tina..you know I was watching a tv program that said that most people feed their children boxed cereal in the a.m. and they might as well just give them a chocolate bar instead..same nutrition.

Come make my cheesecakes while you are making your pies Carol lol This year it will be fresh cheesecakes for dessert, banana and glazed cherry. They aren't as rich as the baked.

I am sure Dodge is getting excited to spend the day with her grand girls as well.

Taking a break from the doings of the day and eating something. I tend to get busy and forget to eat. That is better than having nothing and snacking from boredom.
Next on my list is that cheesecake that Sunny talked me into.

Hello, unbaked cheesecake is done. Just cherries today. I gave the rubber spatula to my youngest and for the first time ever he licked it. And came back for more. I am always so happy when he tries something new. I cleaned up the kitchen from that endeavor and am resting here a minute. I am going to start rolling lil beef smokies in bacon in a few minutes.

A countdown to Christmas for you easterners. About a half hour before tomorrow for you.
I am all done here with what needed doing. Including wrapping my daughter's gifts for others. It was driving me nuts. So I did it and she is happier for it. Then I also wrapped my older son's gifts for everyone.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day tomorrow.

11:18 pm here in Illinois...

The kids (Valarie & Brian) just went to bed---DH went a very few monents before that. I let the dog pout one last time & then am here--then I will get to asleep.

I made 2 Pumpkin pies today & then put a chicken in the oven to bake for tonights meal. WE 4 went to the Children's program at church tonight then we came home & opened up our gifts (Val & Brian's to us & Ours to them).
From Valarie & Brian I got a vacuum !!! Yay----I needed a new one & had told Rod that I didn't want a gift from him until after all my other gifts were opened--(I really needed a new vacuum & that was my insurance policy to get one)....so now I dont kmow what to ask him for--- why There are some books I want--but we shall see what Emily gets for me.....Tomorrow morning we will all go to Emily's & then Valarie & Brian will go home as will we. I will go to my niece's for Christmas dinner & Rod will stay home with his mom, as she does not want to go out.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Sorry for talking you into making cheesecake Tina lol

Glad that Juniegirl got a new vacuum, that's the best gift a person can get..say's the cleaning addict here haha

The snow has finally stopped but DH is out plowing the main roads. Hoping he doesn't have to stay out long. Grandbaby is still sleeping but Santa has passed. I can't wait to see the excitement on her face when she sees her new dolly.

Now..off I go for a day of cooking.

Good morning and Merry, Merry to all!
Don't worry, Sunny. Really you just gave me an inspired idea. My kids are all sleeping and dreaming of that cheesecake. It has been a long time... And a refrigerator cheesecake is so easy to whip up, the ingredients were on hand.
The crock is on and I have not even made my coffee yet.

I have never seen garlic crescents, Carol. Although I made a savory cheesecake once for an appetizer. It was OK but I don't think I would again.
The bulk of our Christmas is over. We had tamales and fun foods. Gifts were opened and smiles were plenty. Tonight I will make grilled cheese sandwiches. By request. And they sound pretty good to me too.

Tina, do you ever make potato tamales? When I worked at the health department some of the interpreters would make them and they were so good.

I have never heard of potato tamales. I'll have to look up those on the net. I do like sweet tamales on occasion. Stuffed with pineapple and raisins or pumpkin and raisins. They are still made with a mild chili sauce and the flavors blend pretty well.
Sweet dreams all. It was a lovely day with lovely weather. But it was a long day.

Good Morning--and yes the Day after Christmas is Bittersweet.

I am so exhausted that the only think I am going to do is get out meat for supper tonight & then cook it---I MAY clean up the kitchen before I start cooking, but that is it. Today is an R & R day for Carol.

P.S. :

My Christmas graphics will be staying up until after epiphany.

I have actually been cleaning a bit today. I do want to start the new year with a cleaner house. And cleaning up clutter is a beginning. And this season is full of clutter. Clutter and dust. The dry winds are blowing out there. That means even more dust for me.

I am tired to today but trying to get a few things done up... got a load of towels in the laundry and we are taking two of the boys to go see The Hobbit at 4:30.. tried to get tkts to the 130 showing but it was sold out ... going to be lots of people there but we want to see it and Papa promised today so we are going ...

I need to get stuff gathered up and stored again too- collected my gift bags and will reuse them... and have it all ready to go back in basement... got my car box I hauled presents over to C's to ready to put back in my trunk.. it's a good sturdy box so didn't want to lose it...

Haven't started on the Christmas décor put away yet... that will happen next week.. then after first of yr and we buy tires for Tahoe we may go find Joe a new tv.. he really wants one and we figure they will be on sale.. have to find a stand too to make it all work.. and I have to find a good place for my record player he got me... didn't expect that at all .. told him new car was plenty of present for the next yr...

Carrie and Jon had an album made of pictures from the last yr or so of their family... it's beautiful... made me cry... and Sean and Jackie had the twins artwork made into ornaments for us they have their names and the date on them-- they are so pretty... and I got gift cards too so I have some shopping to do..

Well I am going to go finish the laundry up.. fold the rest and call it a day for getting stuff done... funny how having a day of fun wears you out....

A loaf of homemade bread sounds good right about now. Good job, Carol.
I did a fine cleaning of my wood stove for when I have my next fire in there. Not sure when that will be. It depends on temps in general. It is plenty warm right now. I am seriously think hot dogs for dinner tonight. I haven't had a hot dog in forever. Like 3 or 4 years forever. But I got some organic beef ones from my neighbor and they are sounding pretty good.

I ended up not having hot dogs. Everyone kind of pigged out on leftovers of yesterday's foods and fruits and such.

We are home from movies and it was really good... they sure added some to the book but it made it very exciting ... boys loved it , they had a good time... now we have to think of something to do with Derek that he will like... he doesn't like movies... and still doesn't feel well either... ... poor kid hasn't been able to take his meds for a week and we can tell... he can't mix it with cold meds so doc said not to start again till day after his last dose of cold meds... just hope it doesn't throw off his sleep schedule...

We are going to have pork chops for dinner tomorrow with mushroom gravy and rice.. will do in crock pot so have time to clean up my house and finish up rest of laundry- got one more bed to do... and towels to finish up.. all off schedule around here... I won't have boys- Jon is on vacation ... I may even open up house to air it out- it's been warm lately- supposed to get another day or two and then get cold again...

Well off to bed for me... been a long day again,

Nana

Good morning. No alarms and I am still up before they would have gone off. But that is ok. It is what comes natural to me. And I could go back to bed if I wanted or nap later.
More house cleaning is on my agenda today. I think I will take apart my stovetop and do a deep clean of that.

Good morning. Emily called this morning, & said wow you DO sleep late !! (it was 8am.)

I did have some errands to run but I will stay home today & do some bookwork. Luke is coming to visit this afternoon for awhile. Mommy & daddy are going to Adopt-A-Pet to do some volunteer work. As I remember they set up the computers for the year.

Tina, when you are done with your stove, drop on by...I have NO idea how to take my oven door apart & it is filthy. IT looks like I have not ever washed off the glass, when in reality it is in the inside. (how it got there is anyone's guess)

I have never cleaned between the glass on my oven door. It is not in bad shape. I have seen places online with instructions for doing that, though. I didn't read any but I bet it involves unscrewing the panels somehow.
I have my parts soaking right now. The inside of my stovetop was not as bad as I thought it would be. I haven't really been cooking a lot on it for spillovers, etc. The metal drip pans are in sad shape with some of the chrome scrubbed off. It makes the stove look dirtier than it is. I keep looking for new ones and have yet to find them. There are billions of options for electric stove tops though. But I love cooking with my gas/propane stoves.

I am afraid to take apart my door. Rod did it once for me back at the farm on that stove--it was a major ordeal.

The top on my new gas range (well new in 2004/5) is sealed---you can just take off the grates & the round disc that covers where the flames come out at.---so I wipe the top up & put the rest in the dishwasher. That is not a problem--but I just hate looking at the door.

Going to the post office now...TTY all later--when Luke is back home.

Yep--we had salad & spaghetti for supper last night too. On their way home, my daughter & SIL called & said they would bring fish--well The place that makes fish on fridays, was closed for the holidays--so I said not to worry--we will have spaghetti here..

I didn't put Luke down for a nap, so he fell asleep while eating, poor baby. "Bad Grandma" Saddest thing is, my camera is at my sister's...

Today is laundry here also..and then I will run those errands of yesterday.

It is great to have easy options around. That is the main reason I cook big sometimes, so I can have decent food tucked away in he freezer. Today we will finish off the tamales and I will have mac n cheese for Ted and as a side for anyone else.
Laundry is going and I am going too. To take a nap.

laundry is still going---I am back form Grocery shopping. AND as I had to go to Dollar General to get "real" light bulbs, (you know the ones they say they are not making any longer ??) I took advantage of some 50% off Christmas items for next year.

I have a mess of incandescent bulbs in my stash, Carol. All made in the USA. So they have been around awhile. I am starting the mac n cheese now. I really have had a hard time settling on any one thing to get done today. I've just done bits and pieces.
