No, it doesn't. All of those reduce the air in a jar and seal air from coming in. But water bath and pressure canning also heat and kill off any nasty pathogens that may be present before heating.
The sealer does not heat the contents so is best for things not needing heat to kill bacteria and things.
If you have ever opened an old Reese's PB cup you may have found the chocolate has separated with a chalky look and the interior is dried and crumbly (at the very least). I sealed after-season PB hearts from Valentine's day of 2013. I just opened them this Valentine's day, a year later, and they were wonderful. I replaced them with new after season in the same jars with the same lids. With the food saver you can reuse lids.
The food saver is best used on things that are ready to use or eat. It extends the shelf life of things that are already shelf stable. It will keep your raisins from further drying, for instance.
Besides candy, I have sealed my home dehydrated fruit and vegetables, chia seeds and quinoa, beans and rice, raisins and craisins, etc.
And Nana says she has sealed sugar and flour etc.

I don't know what the heck is wrong with me. I have a stuffed up head, a cough, and everything hurts even my arm pits.

Arm pits or groin sound like adrenal gland involvement. I get that when I am bitten by a certain ant that I am allergic to. An allergy, Sheri? Are you snorting Lysol again? I hope it eases off for you soon.

This school doesn't have Lysol or anything else to spray which I hate because I had a student in here who would NOT cover her mouth when she coughed. I told her over and over and over and over and she was in here waiting on mom for over 2 hours.

My entire body is aching. I sure hope it's not the flu.

Oh Sheri , hope it isn't the flu but if you think it is your doc can give you meds to get thru it easier if you get them within 72 hours... do you get flu shots... they are worth it to me... last time I got the flu I ended up with pneumonia and was very sick.... and now I am finally the age my insurance covers it...

The only thing our schools have is hand sanitizer but they ask for the Clorox wipes every semester and the teachers have the kids wipe down desks every day... I think I would take my own Lysol spray if I was you for your own protection... feel better soon...

Carrie registered the boys for an online school next year.. if they will take Derek with his IEP.. if not we will homeschool him... she called principal at Nicoli's school again today and he wasn't available- it's been 2 full weeks since doc asked for homebound and nothing from them.... she is so mad.. and I don't blame her she may pull him now and homeschool him the rest of the yr too- they sure aren't interested in his education... I told her to write a letter to the school board and ask who was in charge of these people who don't seem to be doing their jobs but are sure anxious to make trouble for her...

Well need to make something for dinner - don't know what - spent most of day over there and forgot about us- will be something frozen I think....

Nana: I think that is a good idea for carrie to contact the School Board---I am thinking they are getting a one-sided notion of what is going on here--and likely it is NOT the truth. Home school may well be the answer. Good luck !

Sheri--that is how wahtever I had hit me---I was fine Monday morning & by noon I was iffy sick & then by the evening I was so sick it was not funny at all...and yes same symptoms. I still dont know if it was a new strain of the flu or some new virus, But sicne I had a flu shot I was ok in say a week...While my DH was better in that amount of time too, as he had no flu shot, he is still coughting a week later that that & it is horrid to hear him... egad

Gracious Tina, I do so hope that you are not getting sick too... why

Momma called. It seems we are going shopping tomororw for clothes--YAY !!!! shewinks

Good morning. I am not sick. Ted will go to school and I will get the weekend shopping done today. It is going to be a good Friday. I have been cleaning and sorting odd corners of my house. Kind of a spring cleaning thing. I can certainly feel my age sometimes.

Well, I am glad that you are not sick, Tina. As much as I ache at times, I had not considered age as a culprit.

I have no idea who said life begins at 40 but they were crazy.

I am off to begin my day soon. First some shopping then some errands & then some house cleaning. You know some days I wonder what it would be like to be independantly wealthy & have "people" to do all of this stuff for you...

I ache due to hauling furniture and boxes and such around so as to get a layer of dust out. In my younger days this could have all been finished twice or more in the time I have spent on it.
I am not sick but I do have a little cold complete with a cold sore on my lip. I can still function but just a little slower.
I took Ted to school and stopped to shop for the weekend stuff so I won't have to go out. I have one more store to shop at before picking Teddy up . Then Ted only has one more week of school before his spring break.

WEll I was in a panic at first--I wondered.

We have 3 queen beds, 2 twin beds, a day bed with a trundle and a baby bed here, so really we could sleep az lot of people. Sad thing is this time of year it would not be easy as 1 queen bed, 1 twin & the trundle are in the basement...In the summer that would be good sleeping but I do not think people would like it this time of year.

BUT no, they are driving 3 hrs here & then 3 hours home. Which is kinda silly as my SIL (their son) has a house in St Louis (1 hr away) that they could all stay at & then just drive the 2 hours home tomorrow...but oh well...

very tired now but I still have rugs to launder...See you all when I next have some free time--perhaps Sunday afternoon/evening.

Good Morning from me too.

well the house is ready and I made my fruit salad. That will be the dessert for supper tonight. My SIL does not do many sweets & I am thinking that my daughter would do better with fruit than another cake.

I am all clean but not dressed. I am finally enjoying some coffee, and then I guess I will get dressed. My Mom bought me a blouse yesterday so I would have something new.

My Valarie says that her in-laws will not be coming by, but I am thinking it would be good manners to invite them for a bit after the shower....We will see. Euither way it is not bad to have a clean house.

I wish everyone a good day.

Teddy was only upset because of the noise. He is not a fan of sudden noises. He does not like the drills at school either.
We are ready for the last week of school before a couple weeks of spring break. It is a very nice, warm day, 74* and rising still. But the week is going to be cooler without rain.

Well this afternoon didn't go as expected... went to go change clothes out of dryer and at first thought I had forgotten to turn it on... no it wouldn't turn on- clothes were still wet...and of course so was the ones in the washer... Joe came home - tried to fix dryer but it is dead... so called Carrie and asked if we could use hers... she is still doing laundry- so she said she would dry ours and we could get it in the morning when we take Derek to school... guess I will be going dryer shopping tomorrow - can't do without one here...it's nice today but it's supposed to snow later in the week...

Have a good evening all

Sorry for the dead Dryer, Nana....I hate when large expendature appliances need to be replaced... egad

I had a great time at the shower yesterday. I do wish there had of been more people come but usually around here about 1/3 of the people one invites to any shower here do not come. But she had a nice turnout anyway, so it was nice enough to please her.

I of course LOVE having her around...and goods news is I get to go see her in 2 weeks for the shower down Brian's family is having for her there.

I slept 8-1/2 hrs last night and then 4 more this afternoon....oh well

AND I see I missed Bill--again----clearly I am not around as much as I should be--shame on me...

But Bill, THANKS for the smoke alarm check reminder---not that we really check ours as they are wired in to the electric system of the house..., but I am s ure many people have the battery operated ones, and a reminder is always a good thing. rose

I wouldn't mind having some wired into the house. But I do like having the battery option in case of power outages. And I think even wired ones are supposed to be tested to see if they are working?
I am so glad you had a good time at the shower.

Well, first I am led to understand that the wired in types have battery back-up...so that should probably be tested.

and thanks for the kind words. Today I have to do some bookwork & then I take my MIL to the Drs. this afternoon. Luckily I have enough left-overs for supper tonight, so that is not a concern.

My inner nerd wants me to get these Nest Protect Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector (they have both wired and battery powered) but they're spendy...

They're cool though, because they're all networked together, so if you have a fire in say the basement, all of the monitors will go off saying where the issue is... So say I'm in my bedroom (two stories from the basement) the alarm outside my door will go off saying "fire, fire in basement" (or whatever location strikes your fancy; front hallway if you will).

The issue? they're not cheap lol

Those look cool, James. But I live in a ranch style house with no upstairs or basement. I am good with my cheaper ones. If I broil anything in my oven, the one in the small hallway right outside the kitchen goes off. I have to press a button to shut it up. I know it works without testing.
Travel safely today, Carol. And enjoy yourself. Did you finish your quilt top in time for the shower? Where are pictures?
I took Ted to school and brought the dog along for the ride. Then stopped for a quick stop at the grocery store before coming home. I have put that away. Today, I am picking up my older son and driving him to a job before picking up my younger and bringing him home. I'll want to fill my tank either today or tomorrow morning.

I DID not finish the quilt, Tina. I want to take something to the shower down where Valarie lives, so I am taking that---and that is why you have not seen any new photos yet. I promise that when I finish it there will be photos, both front & back... thumbup shewinks

Thanks Tina--I will try my best to be safe..

I am looking forward to those photos, Carol. That is the kind of project that I would take much longer finishing than you have. But embroidery was so never my thing.

You are way too kind, Tina...I am thinking you would finish in a very timely fashion.

I actually get to go to ceramics tomorrow.
(shush, don't tell anyone)

Going to bed soon. Nite nite.

I saw that and replied. I finished my second knitting project today. Will try to post pics when I can. Do we still need to use photobucket? I just finished a baby blanket but can't post it on fb.

I am thinking that any photo hosting site will work--but I know that Photobucket will work for sure. The img line.
