Good morning...the sun is shining once again.

My potatoes are poking through the ground...Grandgirl is so excited. Yesterday we planted up a pot of flowers for her. She has been bit by the gardening bug lol

Evening all,

Had a wonderful summer day here- spent the morning at the lake with Carrie and the boys... they played in the water a little - still a little cold to actually swim in... it is snow melt... they did dig a hole next to the water and a channel to fill it up, that water got warmer and they called it their hot tub , they did have fun..then we came back to our house and they played on the slip and slide for a while... carrie brought the dogs over to get used to our house... they must have wandered over every square inch of our backyard .. think we will get along just fine with them...

I am heading to bed soon too... being out in sun really takes it out of me lately... even staying in the shade most of time- it was warm and that just wears me out...

Glad you got to go to ceramics and lunch Carol... that sounds like fun... and Sunny teaching your granddaughter about plants is wonderful... she is a lucky girl...

Nana

Good morning...rain for the day here.

It sounds like you had a fun filled day Nana.

Carol and Tina, I think I have a future gardener under my wing for sure. Yesterday she was out looking for weeds to pull. lol

Today I think I will rest...I am very tired lately.

I do hope you get plenty of rest, Sunny.
Good morning. Up well before my alarm. I will probably be seeking my napping sofa later. But meanwhile Wednesday is here and the week is about half over. Not exactly sure why I look forward to the weekends so much. They are busier for me in a way. But mostly busy with my own doings and no clock watching for school hours. That must be it. And I do enjoy the time spent with Teddy.

Nana, sounds like yoiu had a wonderful day. I am so glad. And yes, I think as we age (beats the alternative though) we wear out much easier.

Sunny, please take care & do not overdo. You need to be healthy to be there for the grandgirl after all. As Tina says, get plenty of rest. I am thinking that you should build in a rest period to your day. shewinks\

Tina, I think the stess of looking at a clock can be wearing on a person. To have to constantly look at a clock can be wearing.

Well, I am off to finish up breakfast & then go to see my MIL.
See everyone later. wavy

Mmmm, breakfast sounds good.
Got Ted to school and stopped to shop. Tonight's menu will include beef of some sort, haven't decided on exact prep yet. And artichokes. Both on sale today as prices are rising. Jonni is the only one to really like the full chokes. I like choke hearts though. So we will get about 5 meals out of the 4 artichokes I bought.

Artichokes are the flower portion of a plant related to a thistle. Do you have thistles that grow there, Sunny? They taste 'green' like other green vegetables only have their own flavor. They are a pain to cook because it takes a pretty long time to boil.
They are a pain to eat because you pull off one thick petal at a time and dip in melted butter or mayo and kind of scrape the flesh out of the broken end of the petal with your teeth. Then when the thick petals are gone you get to cut away the thinner petals then the choke-y part with the bristly stamens to get to the heart. That makes a good 3-4 bites of real food.
It was fun when I was a kid but I like my food to get to my stomach faster these days. And it mostly seems like a way to shovel fat into your body.
I have 3 chokes cooking in the bottom of my stockpot now along with their peeled stems. When I get up the energy, I'll cook some noodles to go with the stroganoff I began in the crock this morning.

Sweet dreams, Carol. My kitchen is cleaned up from my messes. And I don't have to cook for a couple if days. If the temps really rise, I may not cook until September sometime.
I am getting ready to bed down too.
Thinking of Bill and wishing him well.

Good morning, thanks for explaining Tina. We have thistles here so I understand what you mean. There are a lot of fruits and veggies we never see here, it must cost too much to transport them in.

Today I will tackle all my windows and wash all the curtains...wish me luck lol

Has anyone heard how Bill was?

I took down all of my drapes. I got tired of them and they were too hard to keep clean in our dust and wood burning. So I purchased new roll-up blinds and those are still in their packages a couple years later.
I took Ted to school and stopped to shop a bit at 2 stores. I did forget to stop for gas. I will be down to a quarter tank by the time I get out to do that now. I rarely let it go that low. If I need to evacuate for some reason, I want plenty of fuel. I will stop before I pick Teddy up from school.

Tina, can't you boil them and cut out the choke before you finish cooking them? Never done it but I think I saw it on Top Chef.

I used to have drapes, got claustrophobic one day and took them down, put up cellular blinds, but now have bought curtains again to put up when the curtain lady ever gets them fixed. It comes in cycles.

Sheri, I really only know one way to cook them. I am not a huge fan. I don't dislike them but feel they are too expensive and a bunch of work for little reward. I mostly bought and cooked these for my daughter. It is always nice to see your kids eat veggies.

The only Artichokes I have ever eaten came either from a can or a jar. And I like it that way. Tina, you are a good Momma, to do that for your daughter.

It is way late here & I have a long, full day tomorrow.
Sweet Dreams to you all.

Good morning. Another week almost over. One more week of summer session at school then all of July off.
Carol, the only canned artichoke hearts I can find are pickled and we are not happy with them. If I could find them canned with water, I'd be happy.

LOL, I prefer the pickled (in a jar here) but then I use them in salads. The fresh, hearts packed in water, are in a can. As I have not picked any up like that in awhile, I cannot remember the brand, sorry.

Good Morning to everyone....Off to see my Sister soon. Then this evening Rod & I are going with the people at his work to Ball Park Village in St Louis. The company where he works has a room reserved with food & we will watch the game from there (I assume.) At any rate I will get to see just what the Village consists of.

Good Morning !!

I should have gotten up early & went out too. It is already too hot outside for me to b e safe. rolz I will hope that it cools off enough tonight for me to do some more work. Clearly I should have gone out in the misty rain to get all of my spring work done.

Had a good time last night. The company Rod works for took the whole company & their families to Ball Park Village. We had our own area complete with buffet & wide screen TV to aide with special plays. Rod & I scored cushioned "high" chairs to sit in while we watched the game live. We left at the top of the 8th inning, to avoid the crowds leaving the area. Cardinals lost 5 to 1.
BUT hey, it was a good time. We took a bus over from the Illinois side, so we did not have to fight the traffic. It was a very nice night. shewinks

Good morning, sun is shining and more shed work is in the plans for today.

How's the heat Tina?

Good morning. The heat is too hot. The good is that our temps rise and fall by about 30 degrees. As long as I can get the tough stuff done early, life is good. I am so grateful for our water source here. So far it has not been affected by the drought. And I am truly hoping for an El Nino winter with rains.

Hi wavy

Thanks Sunny shewinks

I just got back from the Emergency Room at a local Hospital. My sister called, as she had taken my Mom there as she had been unable to keep anything down and had gotten weak as a result. (Mom is a little bit of a thing, with NO residual fat of any kind.) They did all kinds of test, & gave her fluids & sent her home. Thankfully she concented to spending the night at my sister's house.

I hope your mother is OK now, Carol. Dehydration can get serious quickly.
My day is about done. I need to hop into the shower in a bit and I will be finished. Unless I decide to toss some stuff into the crock overnight. I am dithering. i may wait to see what the grocery has on sale early tomorrow after I drop Ted off.

I am glad your Mom is okay too Carol... dehydration is nothing to ignore... it can happen really fast...

We went to my nephew's graduation on Sat.. was in downtown Denver and that is one confusing place to get around.. we got lost , but made it in time to meet them... by about 3 min... he got his bachelor's degree in IT something or another... he did 21 yrs in the Marines and now is working for civil service but he said they told him he wouldn't get promoted if he didn't further his education.. so now he will go for his Masters...

Nicoli had an attack on Sat.. he had been doing so well Carrie let him spend the night with a friend of his... he got sick in the night- did his meds but didn't stop it- he made it the night there.. but slept all the next day... he has an appt tomorrow with his neuro doc.. it's a check up so hopefully there won't be any new meds...

We have a weekend trip planned next month to our favorite B and B, they
are recovering from the flood last fall ; it will be interesting to see the changes...

Have an update on my rosacea treatment.. it has improved a whole lot, really pleased with the results so far... one more time and it should be a done deal... not a pleasant treatment but the results so far are worth it to me...

Have a boy free day tomorrow, Jon is off so I will make my curtains for my family room window and maybe remake and old bedspread in to comfort blankets for Nicoli- he didn't like baby blankets when he was little - he like an old bedspread of Carrie's I turned in to blankets for him- well they have worn out completely but he still wants it when he is sick.. so she has another one and I will cut it into thirds.. and remake it for him...

Well I am getting tired.. last load of laundry is in washer and dryer is almost done- so I will be heading for my pillows early tonit...

Thanks to all of you for your nice words about Momma.

She said she wanted to go home & did so after the 3 of them ate supper. Apparently, she is feeling well enough to get stubborn again--I guess that is a good sign.

Nana sorry about Nicoli--I hope it was just an isolated incident...

That was a long time between spells for Nicoli. So it seems the meds are helping some. I hope it is much longer for the next one, like forever.
I am glad your mother is feeling so much better and keeping things down, Carol
Sweet dreams all. I am heading to bed.
