Tonight I finished my brick edging. Next weekend i am going to have Rod help me redo the "sidewalk" that goes down the rocked area. it need built up and then new weed barrier put down. WE will then call my backyard work done until next spring.

Good plan...does Rod mind helping with chores?

I need to pick and blanch/freeze more beans today.

LOL he does not usually help me at all with MY yard work....as I will not cut grass & such. But he had offered to help me last Sunday before his friend called to ask him to go with him So I am thinking, if I ask him to help me next weekend, he cannot really say no. At least that is how I hope he feels about it. If he is willing to help me that will be great...I can accomplish what I want to much faster then. "here's hoping!"

Sounds like you're getting things accomplished Junie. Johnny doesn't help with in the yard either. Well, maybe once in a while but not a lot.

Sunny, sounds like you're filling up your freezer for the winter.

Sheri: he now tells me that he will take me somewhere over the holiday weekend...so I guess what I was going to have him help with will wait for another weekend.

Oh boy Junie, road trip. It's raining here. No garden work today.

Sheri: here are current photos of my "Rocked Area" in the back yard.

As you can see I have weeds grown up no matter what I do---the brown looking weeds in the one photo is "Golden Chain".. that I am trying to get rid of---I love it there but weeds were invading it and I could not keep them out, so all of it is going to go. back up against the house in the mulched area are spiders wort that has spread that I cannot kill (But I keep trying) and "Dandelions" that not even salt can kill---but I will not give up on them either.

I am going back to roundup...

Gosh Junie that looks great. I didn't see any weeds but I do see a hummingbird feeder. :) I like your picnic area and deck.

Thanks, Sheri. The "Picnic area" is exactly that these days but it began as the floor/ground for our 2 dog pens. a 4 ft tall one for our dog when we were not at home & a 6 ft tall one for when our "grandpuppies were visiting....

the "edging bricks" go as follows: Red yellow green white gray (I think) then the colors begin again...

The frost has officially taken out my garden.

The rain and wind may end my garden for the year. Or maybe it will help the squash seedlings that have popped up. Won't know until Irma bids us farewell.

That is so sad to hear, Sheri...I hope yo\u and your family are ok, and are doing well after Irma goes thru & is gone...

The garden is ok. I brought in squash and cucumbers and the little seedlings are now bigger. Yippee. Thanks for your concern Junie.

Wow...how long is the growing season there, Sheri?

Our growing season is usually over in August because the end of July is so scorching hot but we had a few cold snaps and rain this year. It's been nice. I put out carrot seeds yesterday.

Plants N Pots sent me radish seeds..and they are doing well. It was hot for a few days so I am looking forward to some cooler days so my radishes will grow to maturity. I am still getting a very few cherry tomatoes.

How in the world is plants n pots? She sent me pineapple sage one time. Smelled so good.

She once sent me some: Autumn Joy Sedum, prickly pear & a few coneflowers. We keep in contact. She is doing well.

Cleaned my garden and put some plant labels.

We haven't had rain since Irma came through so I watered my little squash plants. They have blooms but I'll probably have to hand pollinate.

It must be so nice to continually be able to garden for such a long season....I'm jealous.

I've cleaned everything up. I'm not planting a winter garden. We just don't eat enough of the stuff to do all the work.

my flowers & such are cleaned up, save for my Lirope. I like to cut them down in late January...

I cut the lirope in February. Grows like a week around here.

I'm thinking about the garden for the next season. I hope to put in another raised bed and I'm definitely not planting green beans. I don't know what's happened around here but for the last 3 years I don't even get enough to can. I used to get enough to can for everyone. Oh well. I'm thinking of planting limas for a change.

Oh my, I love L ima beans..let me know how they do if you plant them.

Green beans won't set if the temps are too hot, Sheri. Has it been hotter and drier the past years?

Sunny, I've had a garden off and on for more than 30 years, wet, dry, hot, cold, and until the last 3 or 4 years haven't had a problem with green beans. Years ago we never even fertilized the soil or amended it in any way and they grew just fine. Last year I did try amending a little bit in hopes of improving things but like I said I barely got enough to eat. I've changed where I get my seeds, gone to a non GMO site, wondering if that's it.

I love limas too and someone told me what type to plant and I've already forgotten and can't even remember who told me. Lordy.
