All fresh and new.  My raking is done, my yard is cleaned up...now to wait out the time until planting. The hummers should be flying in, in another week as well.

They usually only arrive around May16 here but just in case some are early, I want to be prepared....nothing is in bloom here except for a few daffodils. I dug up and divided some coneflowers and rudbeckia's today.

I am trying real hard to keep the coreopsis and coneflowers that I planted new this year alive. So far so good, but the summer is long.

I guess those perennials like cooler weather because they thrive here. I have no luck with a lot of the other kinds though but I bet they thrive in your heat.

It may be the warmer weather or my terrible soil. Or both. LOL. Luckily the plants that I brought from my dad's before we sold their house are thriving.  I do not have many places to have flowers, so it could be worse.

We've had a lot of rain lately and everything is thriving. Would be lovely if August would be like this. The baby blue birds and baby house wrens have flown the coop and are hanging around the yard. Wish I could figure out how to share pictures.

We have been predicted to get storms with heavy rains, but so far in all of it we have gotten a bit less than 2 inches. However my blackberries are thrilled.

Click on 'use full editor', when you get to that page then click on 'attachment manager', then click on 'select a file to attach'. Choose your file, then click on 'done'...your picture then uploads to your post. I divided up and moved some wild geraniums to my ditch. It is too steep to mow now, I have been adding what I can...to hopefully have a ditch full of flowers instead of weeds.

I've done all that Sunny. I used to be able to post them so I don't know what's changed. I keep getting an error that says I haven't fully filled out the post but if I try to add anything I get a error saying "post already submitted" and I can't do anything else. I had so much fun at my granddaughters wedding that I want to do it again. We all danced until we couldn't dance anymore. AND Colt was in town for the wedding so that was added happiness for me. He's grown 2 inches since he was here in December!!!!! Does not get that from me

Even I may be able to post photos now......thanks Again, Congratulations on your Granddaughter's wedding, Sheri. growing boys....that is something they do A LOT it seems. my grandson could not reach the chips that I keep on the top of my fridge last September. But now he can.... I am so glad I did not have boys to dress or feed back in the day.

That weather is normal here, the frost was so thick this morning that it looked like snow. We had a great show of the Northern lights the past two days...it is an amazing phenomenon. Happy Mother's Day everyone.

Our weather has been lovely too and we had a great day all the way around here.
If I ever can get pictures to post I'll show you my mothers swing a friend hung from a tree for me last week out in the back. It's so nice and peaceful.
I have tiny squash and tiny tomatoes!!!!

YAY for new veggies, even if they are tiny. They will grow after all. I am glad that you had a good day, so did I.
First we went to church with my DD and her children. Then she made us a nice lunch complete with dessert.
Then she spoiled me with the nicest gifts. One was a plant called " Chain of Frogs" ( it looks like tiny tiny ivy leaves). It is ever so cute.
Then Rod and I came home so that my SIL could go visit with his mom. We did manage to find a funny retro movie to watch, so that was fun.

I took at 2 hour nap yesterday. With Shelley's birthday, work, wedding, rehearsal dinner, mother's day, evidentially I was exhausted cuz I slept like a log last night too.

I've tried posting pictures on my desktop, ipad, and iphone and have changed the size to thumbnail clickable size and I still get the message saying my post has already been submitted and can't be submitted again. Oh well.

I am about to get to harvest some green onions and lettuce. I am so excited I can barely wait. So happy for you Sheri. I know you love squash.
The kids are officially out of school for the summer. Mom still has her school job until Thursday night, so I have to kids today. Sunny and hot here today. Next few days after today we are forecast to have scattered rain and thunderstorms. I hope the storms miss us.

Rod has mowed several times already AND with all the rain we have been getting he has to mow about every 4 days. Beginning to mow is a good marker but now it will not stop for awhile....

It is a cold, dry day here...I spent the day cutting grass. It is going down to 32*F tonight....no one listens to me here when I tell them not to plant their gardens early.

It's been very warm here. I've eaten squash from the garden twice now and the cucumbers will be ready soon. There are plums almost ready as well as blackberries. Sunny I could use some of your rain.

Nope, I cut it back on the east side of the fence about 4 feet but then for some reason I only got about 1 cup from all that space ( it had to be not enough light) so now all my berries are on the north side of the yard on the fence line there in the full sun
I have added a few new starts on the west end of. the north line, so I may end up with the same amount of berries. Which is good as it takes st least 3 batches of jam to hold my husband over for most of the year....I wish I knew how my grandma made her jelly. She had a huge pot of home grown grapes she cooked down, but I was too little to care, so I didn't pay attention.

Wind chimes don't work here cuz I have several and I love them.
Today I got the first cucumber out of the garden and 3rd mess of squash. Yummy.

Are they called English cucumbers,? If so are they hard to grow ?

I planted over 150 ft of potatoes, then carrots and onions. It is a good start to the 2024 season. I grow cukes here from seed Junie, lots of the tiny pickling variety.

The type I am looking for are about 6-7 inches long when mature. When sliced, they are perfect for veggie trays. I will ask Val's MIL. She may have grown them, and not bought them for a tray at the girl's first communion party.

I've grown pickling cucumbers and they're just as easy as regular ones. I don't direct sow them. I start the seeds in cups and then transplant.

Those 'party' cucumbers are called Persian. They only grow to about 6 inches long, have no seeds and you can eat the skin. You can grow those in a bucket with a trellis for them to climb on. ~Get out to the garden nursery Junie, you might still find a plant or two. I have a busy day today, I have to leave in a few to go with SIL to get paint for her house....then be back by noon to take GG to a school function.

Don't I remember you having a green house ? Could you grow your tomatoes in pots in there ? And I would be glad just to have any tomatoes, never mind red ones. I do have huge plants though , so at least there is that.

She said she gets home from her Vacation at her DD's in Florida today, then she will work out a time to come. But then she said that last year.

Thank you my friend, but I am only "celebrating" my B-day today.
My actual day is tomorrow. And there WILL be cake, if only my sister's 50 th Anniversary cake.(Hence why "I" am celebrating today.,)....
see, she got married on my birthday, So, I got married on her Birthday !!!!
We are all going back home tomorrow to help her and my BIL celebrate their Anniversary.
So it is major party time...and cake!! !!! YAY !!

And full disclosure, me who has had like 10 drinks in the last 10 years, (maybe less) had 2 drinks..and I visited with family and friends I had not seen in a few years. And as one of my relatives pointed out, at least this occasion was not a funeral. There was cake, and food, and family. I had the most wonderful time I have had in years. Seeing all of my relatives and visiting was a wonderful evening !!! Thanks for asking.

You must eat more cake..(for me of course).
When I drink, I usually nurse it along while eating..... that usually keeps me in line.

It was a dry day here, I spent it outside mowing, weed wacking and pulling weeds. They are calling for 6 inches of snow in places in Western Canada....that is just so wrong. I do remember my grandfather telling about how they seen snow on the fifth of June when he was a young boy. We are supposed to get an extreme heatwave starting Tuesday for the rest of the week. My potatoes are up and the onions have sprouted...slow and steady wins the race.
