Yes it happens. Anyway not to worry.

The weather here feels like fall. Warm but not sticky hot or humid. This is my idea of summer, for sure !!!

We could use some rain. Tomatoes and cucumbers are definitely finished but okra and squash are still doing great.

Yes about the tomatoes. I bet mine will be done by the time I get home tomorrow. I hope we have a few so we can have BLT's with nice tomatoes one more time.

Good night to you all.

Come on over Junie, there are plenty of tomatoes here.

We lost internet again...at least these storms have been leaving us with our power.

If I could I would come over, Sunny. If only to visit.

I bought one tomato, & I had I garden tomato. I have a few green ones yet and one larger one that should be ready to eat on Friday. Then I have a few large cherry tomatoes. It is supposed to begin to get warmer next week Much warmer. I assume my green ones will get ripe yet.

Good morning.
While the nice days are numbered, today started out in the 60's. "They" say next week the heat and the humidity will be back. Good thing I have most of my yard work done.

Well I was wrong. I brought in 3 very nice cucumbers today and there are a few more out there. We're going back up to 93° next week.

Yes, our temps are headed back to the high 90's next week with triple digit heat indexes. Nor looking forward to that. This last few weeks have been great !! I suppose those temps will help ripen my green tomatoes though. Mind you I will be out watering a lot.

And yay to you Sheri ,!! Enjoy your fresh cucumbers. I "will' be planting cukes next year !!

I spent the day yesterday fixing drywall in GG's room, she put those sticky hooks up everywhere. You know what happens when you try remove them? You get big patches of torn wall.

I plan to paint today and she better never, ever use those again. lol

Well, I am surprised. Those hooks are supposed to come off clean. Sorry this happened. Nails are easier to deal with. After painting one can just reuse the nails. I figure if you wanted to hand something where the nail was before, you can just hang something there again.

These were hooks from the dollar store not the good ones. Oh well, I finally got the room all painted. I have to say, I really like the grey. It is raining today but tomorrow I will take the dressers outside and paint them. Not sure I'll like the purple though. lol

A lilac might be the way to go..???? However, if I lived with bright yellow, you will get thru having purple furniture, right ??

Sunny, what kind of paint are you using on the furniture? And are you putting some type of polyurethan on it so it doesn't scratch? I want to paint a headboard and nightstand.

Bestofour, it is a quart of cabinet/furniture paint...just a local hardware brand(Home Hardware) but it has not let me down yet, even on kids furniture. It is a thicker kind of paint than a wall paint and goes on great with those small foam rollers. I have not ever had the need to poly over it. It dries rock hard.

Junie, it is a smoky, medium purple color....looks a lot better on the dresser than in the can. I done the first coat this morning.

We went from extreme heat to a chance of frost this morning, we were one degree over frost so the garden lives again for another day. What crazy weather this year.

Junie, painting is all completed....today is the 'try fit' everything back in the room day. lol

So let her.
IF it was in the room before and she can fit it back in then let her.

However:
I had a friend who pitched 3 pieces of clothes at each season.
She reasoned if she did that she could get say 3 different things for that season..perhaps you could get her to get rid of some things with that philosophy ?

GG is a hoarder like my mother and DD, they just can't part with things. It's not like it is going in the garbage...it gets donated to the church for the battered women's shelter. I could throw out everything and be happy about it, I think I was adopted at times. lol

I gave her a cardboard box and told her it had to be filled with items....it is 1/3 filled so far.

My mom, my sister and my brother are like you, Sunny. I am like my Grandma and my dad. We keep most things. It seems that every time I get rid of things, I need whatever I pitched within a week (so I remember pitching it) & I just hate to re-buy things So I keep more than I should.

Thanks Sunny. I'll look for furniture paint and give it a try.

I got rid of a lot of stuff when Johnny died and am planning on getting rid of more as soon as it cools off. It's just way too hot to go into the attic for long.

Day 2 of school and I already had to fight with her to get up....I am not putting up with this, this year. I told her, if you want to move in with your mother...just keep it up. thumbup

Oh no Sunny. I remember how excited Colt was when he first started school (the first day) when Ginger woke him up on day 2 he said "Oh no. Not again." And it's been downhill ever since smile. He hates having to get up early.

We've gotten over an inch of rain in the last week and the temps are a lot cooler. It's been so nice but the hummingbirds are getting fewer and fewer.

Oh Sunny, that is so sad. I knew there was going to be a problem. That is awfully early, BUT it is what it is. It is not like one of you picked such an early hour for the bus to come. She could always go to bed earlier......why

Well, she has no choice but to learn that she will be getting up earlier if she is here, she has decided that moving to her mothers for an extra hour of sleep is not worth it. lol

LOL ( sorry but that made me laugh.). She will probably adjust in a bit. I am sure she is not the only one that has to get up early... So she will be able to talk to others about their plight. That may help them all to get thru.

A " cooler" morning followed by a warm afternoon/evening followed by a very coo! Night, with a string breeze. Possible thunderstorms today & tomorrow. But they have been missing the harsh weather forecasts so we will see.

Good morning !

Nice cool weather the last few days. I have a few tiny sunflowers that have buds on them. Weird.

Sunny, what time does the bus come to pick her up?

It is breezy and cool out tonight. I wish I had of gone out earlier to spend some time out in it.

Sheri I think our crazy weather has a lot of our plants all messed up.

Bestofour, the bus picks her up around 7 am, she gets to school after 8. Sunflowers here are in full bloom.

Junie, it rained all day today. I liked the easier day, I spend all day yesterday piling wood in our shed.

We had a beautiful day today..a mild breeze was common all day. I was out quite awhile watering and taking care of my raised beds and flowers. I really would have stayed out and read my book When I was done with my chores but I had apples from a local orchard. So I made individual crumb topped pies instead. Tomorrow I will make applesauce instead...

That reminds me, I have to go pick apples this week. There are 'wild' apple trees everywhere and they are loaded this year....hopefully not with worms. lol

Well you can pick them anyway and cut out the bad parts. Make jelly, applesauce..apple butter and make pie filling and freeze the filling. Then all you have to do is thaw the filling, make crust and you will have a yummy pie.

Good morning ( Sunday)

Good morning again.( Monday)

Enjoy Junie.

It is calling for a heavy frost tonight so I gave in and harvested all my garden...except for the carrots. I'll put the green tomatoes to ripen and freeze everything else. This is the first year ever that I have had peppers turn orange or red on a plant. It was an exciting thing to see. grin

Yes about exciting to see peppers. Next year I will plant peppers in one of my big pots, and cucumbers in another. If I keep them under the eaves of my roof they will not get fried from direct sun, and I can keep them properly watered. I cannot wait ! I am so excited !!

Wednesday September 11 th

Good morning. I think today is one of the last "nice" days we will have for a bit and go back to having hot weather for a small while before fall officially begins. I love fall, but hate winter.

I wanted to make applesauce but I do not think the apples we bought will cook up. Perhaps I will make some pie fillings to freeze.

My tiny sunflowers are so cute. My weather was lovely too so I pruned shrubs almost all afternoon. Rained a little bit so I came inside but will be back at it tomorrow. I'm pulling up all but the okra plants tomorrow.

Enjoy those sunflowers Bestofour, I am enjoying mine....I planted a mixed package this year.

Junie, found out that it is the full wiring to my house that needs to be replaced by the cable company. They kept changing router boxes for no reason, they are coming tomorrow afternoon. Best part is that there will be no charge to me for the upgrade. thumbup

Yay for free work. You are fortunate that they finally admitted that it was their problem.
Yay for honest internet workers.

Today is a reading day. I have a free advanced readers book addition of an author that I follow to read to see if I spot any mistakes. Later I will post a review.

Yea, it was hot here today as well. BUT I say, we should not worry about the heat...we will be in the cold weather soon enough. So I say we just be glad when we go outside that there is no snow or ice...

93*F. Wow !! We will not hit that until Friday. My sympathies to you all.

I agree about the weather. We won't see snow that soon, but it will get colder very soon.

We've had 3 & 3/4 inches of rain since Sunday night and our temps have been in the 70's. I like it.

Junie are you on Goodreads? If not, where do you post your review?

Yes, no rain here. Perhaps I should see what needs to be done outside. Tonight I get to go see 2 of my granddaughters perform a dance routine at a halftime show at a local soccer game. That should be fun.

Good morning !

I'm at a friends house in Georgia. Next week we're going to Amelia Island, Florida for the week. Hope it's not too hot or rainy. I'm like Goldilocks - I want it just right. Is that too much to hope for: smile

Sunny it is almost fall so I guess pumpkin loaf is in order.

I'm not a fan of pumpkin stuff except pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread with whipped cream. You might call it pumpkin loaf. I ate pumpkin soup once just to be polite and hope to never do that again.

My friend has already decorated her house for fall. I just can't do it when it's still hot.

I love pumpkin stuff. Today I ordered a sampler.box of teas from the Bigalow company. Oddly enough there will be a few pumpkin spice tea bags. So yay !! And FYI I will share with my daughter. This way we can both try the new " flavors" of teas.

My power was off for about 35 hours along with my internet but thankfully the generator had enough gas to keep me going. My mother is 16 miles from Asheville and my nephew and his family live in Asheville and we didn't hear from them for a while but finally got news that they are ok. No power or internet but alive and dry which is saying more than what a lot of people are experiencing right now. This nephew has a dental practice in Asheville and it may be underwater at the moment. Another nephew is an MD at Novant Health and is in the Army reserves and got a call that he needed to pack a bag because he was being deployed to Old Fort, NC, so he was helicoptered in to there yesterday. A building with 200 people inside had collapsed. He was able to contact his wife at some point and said it's total chaos. I've been busy picking up sticks and limbs from my yard but doing well. Glad you guys are ok.

I am glad you are o.k. Bestofour, they were gathering men that work at the power plant(linesmen) in our province to go South to help.

Asheville, GA where Ginger used to live, and other areas are a mess. My area, thankfully not so bad but some people still don't have power. I've been picking up branches and sticks for days now but only actually lost a few small trees and shrubs to the wind.

It seems that N.C. got it worse than what Florida was expecting. Have you ever seen storms such as that before from hurricanes in your area?

I spent the day outdoors today, Fall chores have begun.

Hurricane Hugo came through in 1989 and wiped everything out for weeks. It came another way though and it was Charleston SC and Savannah Ga that I remember as being hit harder than we were. Took 21 trees down in the yard.

SPAMMER on board.

Jeepers Bestofour, I am so glad that you are o.k.

Today I will be cleaning my oven, those apple pies made a real mess. I thought having a self clean would be better but than you can't stand the smell and smoke so the old spray and wipe is the way I guess.

The leaves seem to be changing colors overnight.

I'd didn't even know a spammer was hanging out here. smile thanks for cleaning it up James.

Sunny the leaves are falling here too. I can't keep the yard cleaned up but it's this way every year. So sad about the NC mountains because this is the time of year tourist flock there to get apples and see the beautiful colors. Even if businesses are still standing they'll be taking a financial hit.

I leave the house when I self clean the oven. It is a horrible smell but sure is easier than doing it myself smile

I used the self cleaning option of my stove not too long ago. You can run it 2 or 3 hours. And I must say I was not happy about the level of clean that I was left with. ( It was a real mess though) IMO a second cleaning is called for.

Goodnight everyone wavy

I like the manual spray oven cleaners best...the aerosol kind is awful.

We are having a rainy few days.

Junie I means the cleaner in the spray can.

Florida is bracing for another hurricane. Oh no.

I ran a bunch of errands today. Trying to get everything done before I go to Ginger's on Wednesday.

It is in a spray bottle that you have to manually pump...no aerosol.

I have friends who are in Florida and should be evacuating but aren't. I don't understand why. They'll most likely be without water, electricity, cell service. They can't protect their belongings. I just don't understand.

Bestofour, I guess some people think they are invincible. It is going to be another tragic disaster.

Sounds like it. That or they are thinking it is easier to play the odds and hope their area is spared when the storm goes thru. Sounds crazy to me.

Leaves have been falling at my house for over a month. It’s a full time job keeping them off my driveway.

Thankfully Milton wasn’t as bad as predicted.

Sunny, wonder if you’ll get much snow this year. I thought about you when I heard a radio program saying 4 schools in London have been closed because the UK population has been declining since 2010 and the cost of living in London has gotten so expensive people with children can’t afford to live there. Same for places in Finland. Some group has formed and is trying to sue the city to force them to keep schools open. So stupid in my opinion. If there aren’t enough students to run a proper school I don’t think I’d want my child to attend there.

I can’t stop thinking about the people who work by the hour who have had the business they work for washed away by Helene. What in the world will they do?

Do either of you ever watch Jamie Oliver? I just love him.

I do watch Jamie Oliver now and then but have never cooked any of his meals. We had a mild Winter last year, we only had snow late but it left late as well.

Junie, my mother cooks the turkey this time...I'll do the veggies and bring them over.

I just got in from helping DH, it seems our submersible pump in our well is shot. He is gone for another one now....another bill we don't need.

Gingers going to Branson MS with her in-laws and Shelley usually eats lunch with her in-laws so I’ve volunteered to work Thanksgiving day so since it will just be me eating late I probably won’t cook at all to be honest.

I’m going home tomorrow. I’m sad but ready to go too. If that makes sense.

Yes, it does make sense. Like me, not wanting to leave my home in IL and all of my family, however I wanted to live closer to my DD so we could help them with their triplets..and their brother.

We may well be invited to my SIL's Thanksgiving (not on the day proper) that they have in a party hall the family is so large. But then Thanksgiving day I think I will cook a small turkey so I can make soup with the carcus. I love turkey carcus soup.

Ouch ! Why does that have to start already ?
IF you come up with a way to convince yourself to go out, please share...I so wish I were living back home when it comes to driving places.

Junie how do you make your turkey carcass soup? Is there less traffic back home? I don't live close to anywhere and most of the time wish I did.

Ginger's house is kept at 67°. I always have fun but I'm glad to get back home so I can be warm.

What I do is I start with the turkey carcus..( you would not believe how much meat is hiding on the bones) then I proceed as if I were making chicken soup. Now I make my chicken soup with water not boughten chicken broth.
.....In a large soup pot......

1 turkey carcus
8 C. Water
1-1/2 tsp. salt..(or to taste)
1/8 tsp.(or less) Ground sage.....sometimes I omit
1 bay leaf
4 pkg herb ox sodium free chicken bouillon ...
(1 pkt. is = to 1 tsp bouillon, or 1 cube of bouillon)
if you don't use sodium free omit the salt at first.

Simmer covered..1-1/2 hrs or until meat falls off of bone.
Remove meat from bones, strain broth. Return meat and broth to pot. (Discard bones)
Add:
3 chopped carrots
1 medium onion, cut up
1-2 stalks celery, cut up

Simmer in until veggies are tender...serve

I also boil noodles and/or potatoes in another pot on the side. And add desired amount to each serving. This soup freezes well if you do not try to freeze noodles or potatoes in it.

I hear that about being cold. I miss my fireplace at home. Rod is warm blooded so I am always cold.

At home, the roads are mostly flat, and I can use 2 lane roads to get just about anywhere I really need to go. Plus I know where I am going so I can concentrate on my driving. Here you pretty much have to use the interstate to get to any nice place to shop and as it is one of 2 ways to get to said shopping, there are all kinds of on ramps. I am not the best at pulling into the left lane between 2 cars to allow merging traffic to enter. Hence the problem.

Mmmm now I want soup.

I ended up staying home yesterday, the roads were a bit slippery. I convinced myself to go today....driving an hour just to get to Walmart is just so wrong.

I hope so too (about the fun time).

The sun is out but it is cold. One of our 3 trees is beginning to turn colors.

It is getting close to the end of the month. The cold has to come eventually.

Good Morning

I spent the whole day outdoors yesterday, I cut back every perennial and cleaned up most of the mess. Just have to rake leaves today....my yard looks bare now.

I think it's Tuesday night but I might be confused. I went to see my mother yesterday. She seems a little bit worse but I guess this is the way dementia works.

It's like spring here. We had a few cool days but now it's in the 80° again and things are blooming.

Sheri: yep, Tuesday evening. I find many days are just the same, and as a result, it is hard to know which day is which.

Did you read back to see the turkey carcus I posted for you ? Also you could find a chicken soup recipe and exchange the chicken for a turkey carcus.

Yes, I did see that recipe. Thank you. Another spring day here but I planted pansys anyway. They may burn up.

Vinca is green here year round. Can you put it inside a garage or under the house and keep it watered?
