Well, I ran out of mulch and the nursery across the road has no more brown left. So it's either red or black, don't know what to get now.

As soon as my back stops giving me whatfor I plan to head out to the garden. But right now I'm just going to sit here and be glad there is something called Doan's.

Turning the compost and then trying to cook for a party the day of the party overloaded my back. I had to come home before the party even started. Grrrrrh. I hope someone took pictures.

Can't do much today, because it's raining here. Actually has been raining since last night. I managed to get a new batch of lettuce and spinach started before the thunderstorm got underway. I am growing them in a planter box this year. (they r now inside germinating) The first batch I planted is looking real nice. Almost ready for consumption. I am constanlty worried the rabbits will get to it, but so far they haven't even come near it. I wonder what is deterring them from munching away? It's just sitting there on the deck, last year they had a field day with them in the garden before I put up a fence around the veggies. But they did manage to eat a whole bunch of tulips as they were coming up and just this week the munched on a Liatris. My poor neighbor lost all his tulips this way. Poor guy, he planted them last fall as a surprise for his wife.

Hi Cancolgirl, I'm glad to hear that your lettuce and spinach are doing well. I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to your neighbor. That's terrible.

Could it be because they are on your deck?

Not me, I tore apart one of my white marble stone landscapes..They are on the shady side of the house, and acid rain makes them green.. SO I put in new red rock.. I hate red, but black was more expensive.
2maro I hope to get more of it .. Ran out.
However that was enough.

Had a rough time shopping.....my care was full of tomato cages, 2 large pillows and 8 bags of marble.
I was glad to get home..

lol touched

Thanks Penny,

I have to try harder if I am number 2......Ha ha.
I still have the lawn to mow ..It was too cold to ride the mower today.. 60º
I like to mow when it is about 70. Looks like I will have to use the sweeper after that......

My pink nellie mosser is in full bloom, but the flowers are not as large as usual.

We have major flooding south of Fargo, not here, but close. Flood stage is 18 feet and they are expecting 33 feet by Saturday. Lots of crops under water and golf courses in Fargo. Terrible. I just hope it doesn't come this far! Our entire region is in for major thunderstorms tonight - tornado watch right now. VERY windy out today! I put some little wire fences around a few things I recently planted that were tall to help protect them.

Today I went out and so far I've watered half of my garden and prepared the space for the celosia. And planted the peppermint where I think they should go. After that it's the Sweet Banana peppers and the sunflowers. Oh and I picked up all the garbage and beer bottles that someone through all over the place last night. Grrrrrh.

I'm taking it in stages hoping that this way I don't strain my back again.

Welcome to the club....I pick beer cans an junk out of our fields all year long.
On the farm......folks use us as litter gather.. It is awful.
WHen they throw alumium cans, there is a crowd gathering them.
So much for country living. Bad enough, the next door neighbor throws them on our side of the road....One day he threw tomatoes in my drive....When he left, I threw them back in his yard.....That ended that silliness.

Oh my gosh the rain.....
Here in Pennsylvania......we had 3/4 inches of rain in the last 2 weeks......That's not good for growing any thing.
Very unusual for us.
Hope you are ok there.

I love hummingbirds. But I don't have any here. So I just make due with my sparrows. They are sweet. Well I guess I'm recovered enough to go finish off the watering. Have a great day all. I did it I finished the watering. Or it finished me I'm not sure which.

tk, I don't know if the rabbits are not coming near it because the planter box is on the deck or not, but I am hoping they don't get to it. I think I'll start making salads within the next week. I tasted a lettuce leaf today and it was awesome. They r just growing everyday. I'll take some pics tomorrow.

No Rain today, but also no gardening. Got home too late and tired. I am happy to say that mother nature took care of my watering need for a few days and we r supposed to get more this weekend. All the plants, especially the tomatoes are looking awesome with all the rain pour. I thought I had killed all the Liatris I had started from seed, but as I made my rounds when I got home they are popping back up in their six pack still. And one lonely Maltese cross that survived my savagery of leaving them out in full sun without water. Ooops. But there it is as well resurfacing with some greenery.

Isn't it great when you think something is a goner and it comes back?

My fixed copper spray is here. I probably mentioned that yesterday but just incase I didn't. I'll be spraying tomorrow. I hope it helps.

I almost forgot, I got 1/3 of the watering done so far. It used to be halfway but that was before I did all the planting yesterday lol.

Well, I pulled wheat and millet sprouts out of the garden bed and I see there are more this morning. I have got to get a different bag of bird seed.

Today I definately have to go to the garden nursery and get my tomatoe, cucumber and pepper plants so I can harden them off. I also have to get my flowers.

This year I am putting in just a tiny little veggie garden. Next year I'll put in a larger one and more things. Keeping it simple this time around.

Hey dodge did you get my pm?

I wonder if my pm is broken.

pm me if you can.

I got the pm from loz without a problem. Hum may have to have the webmaster look at my profile and see if I've done something stupid. That's possible.

I'm going back out in the yard this evening and finishing the watering. At least that is the plan.

I think next year if I'm here it will be all flowers. See if I can get rid of that bacterial leaf spot. And I'll be bleaching all my seeds from this years harvest.

Tammy, if anything has black spot then discard the seeds. Better to buy new ones.

Well, I weeded wheat and millet again. Turned and levelled out my small veggie bed for my bean pods, will plant them next week.

Think I will plant my tomatoe and green pepper plants in with my flower beds this year. Confuses people lol

Have my sunflower and vine annuals outside hardening off. Dug out a dead rose bush and trimmed back my two burning bushes that died almost to the ground, cr@p.

Gonna plant my Hollyhock seeds later. Still never got to the greenhouse to buy flowers yet.

Well today I watered the garden and planted the tulips that Dodge sent me. I'm so excited. I hope I'm around next year to see them bloom. I also sprayed the plants. Imagine my suprise when I used half a bottle in one spraying. It said it was good for a 70 sq ft garden. What it didn't say was that was 1 application for a 70 sq ft garden. And I have to spray every seven to ten days all through the growing season. I'm very upset by this.

Well the second set of radishes are growing well. They aren't the radishes I remember from childhood so that was really rather disappointing but they were good radishes in the regular way of radishes so I'm not complaining.

I had to go out and water a little this morning, before the sun gets any higher. It's been promising rain since our last rainfall on Wednesday, but nothing so I figure water a little. And it doesn't look like rain today either or tomorrow, or the next day..... Guess i'll be watering all week.
