"Ladies: Who opens up a new page when it is needed??? can anyone ?? "
Yes Anyone can...100 posts is the limit.
I was outside with my camera and was looking at my Wonder Egg Plant which is kind of ratty looking, bugs have made holes in the leaves etc...But I discovered I now have 3 yellow eggs and a bunch of smaller white ones, plus also a few new blooms.
WOW Comfrey!!! That's a lotta eggs!!!!! The first g=bloom of mine fell off I have another bloom now I hope it makes an egg.. The bugs have enjoyed my plant as well,, The one I oput in the ground hasn't bloomed at all yet BUt it is still growing!!!!
Mark that's terrific!!!! Three eggs!!!!

BUT I did transplant my wonder seedlings/peat pellets into small pots today!! I have 6 pots. 3 are on my dining room table and get filtered west sun and 3 are on my kitchen window sil, and get full west sun---I am hoping at least a few of them make it. Wish me luck!!

I was going to take a pic of my wonder eggs and all of a sudden it starting lightning then rain. Maybe tomorrow, or if the rain stops I can take a quick pic.
Mark, some of my flowers just fell off also, I suspect that the ones that just fall off didn't get pollinated properly or at all.
I have yellow and white eggs both and now have a bunch of new blooms on my plant, So I should hopefully have more eggs to come. I think we should do this every December and it looks like a lot of us will have seeds to share for a new project.
comfrey, that is great you had as many eggs as you did. I now have purple blooms on several of the plants! Approximately how long before I will see an egg? I'll keep my fingers crossed the flowers do not fall off.
I took my 3 WE plants that i had on the dining room table (that were receiving filtered light) and put them up on the kitchen window sill with the others---The Window sill 3 are about 2 x as tall---so now they all have the same chance. I think that 1 may not make it
Penny, I recently found myself 36 seeds on E-bay that i bought so as to have back up, should these not make it. I have plenty to share, so if you would like to try again, just let me know. FYI: it took me 12 seeds to get my 6 pots. I am thinking that surely one of the 6 pots will grow to maturity.

I am using an Olympus FE-140, but am looking to get a better camera for close-ups - I feel that this one is just so-so for the pictures I'd really like to take. It's not all that reliable, and doesn't like very sunny days and some cloudy/hazy ones either.
silly question: how do I know it is time to move my plamts into bigger pots---they are currently in 4 ich pots---most of them are fine but 1 is bigger thatn most & so i ask----

These are plants that bloom then the bloom drops off and an egg develops first white , then blueish color, then gold/yellow, then brown, Then it drops off and cracks open and there are seeds inside to start alllllll over again
Not recommended to eat!
These take a long time unless you have them under growlights.. We started this last Dec 15 some got started later then others and some have already 'Egged" and some of us are just getting eggs.. Finally I got a picture of the one egg I finally did get!!

The fascinating thing about them, Pink, is that they really really do look like chicken's eggs, and even feel like them, but are growing on a plant!!! I've been growing them for a few years now, and I can't believe how many ADULTS have asked me if they are real chicken eggs!!! HUH?!?!?!?
I saw the beginnings of my first flower bud today on the plant that barely overwintered for me this year - yippee!
you all have such nice plants---I wish I had of been more involved with the site in December--then I could have started my W E plants when the rest of you did--BUT thanks to Chermoni I have them now---
Lucky me though--I have all of you to go to with questions, because all of you have already been thru what i am going thru now---

Mark - I'm so glad yours are growing well for you - it's exciting, isn't it?
PHOOEY on those spider mites though! Hope you managed to get them all!!! I noticed aphids all over one of my favorite petunia hanging baskets yesterday, and a few hovering near my wonderegg pot - it's too cold and windy here to blast them with a hose today, so it will have to wait til this weekend - hope they don't do too much damage in the interim.
I think I'm goin to go ahead and plant mine directly in the ground. I'll take pics today (no really I will this time) to show you how far round two has made it so far.
Ohh Great Carol!!! Post pic's of your starts just like we did so we can keepup with yours too!! Ahhhhh You did start them right??
Diane: I sure will post pictures as soon as I can get my camera loaded to this computer, and photobucket figured out--the good news is I have been taking a few pics as I went along. so if nothing else when my daughter gets home form her trip at the end of the month I will get this all worked out. The bad news is my camera is not the best-- and right now I think I need to transplant from the 4 inch pots to bigger pots. I hope I started them right---I used peat pellets and put them in a plastic bag to serve as a greenhouse---all 6 came up, and only one did not make the transplant--so I have 5 pots right now--yea----

(Christy do you have your plants inside or outside!?)
So does it matter if I keep my Wonder Egg plants indoors?? do I have to set them out for a certain period of time?? and if so at what time do I do this?/

i think thats up to you, they can be house plants or outside plants.
i put mine outside, but cause mine got a later start i put them in a basket [container] my zone is colder so if it gets too cold or frost before the eggs can ripin i can just put em in the house or green house.
My flower finally opened today - I'm so glad the one stem survived from last year, so I'll have at least 1 egg, if the new plants don't have enough time to develop!
Those $%^&$#@#^ spider mites came back... and just today I hosed them down lightly twice... and checked every leaf afterwards... Hope it's not too late... I already lost a bunch more leaves, and the stem holding the eggs was starting to brown on 2 or 3 of them... They seem fine now... I'll post pics later [my uncle went upstate earlier today for the weekend, took my camera, and his truck broke down up there.. so he's stuck there until he can get his truck fixed Don't worry he's fine, and with other family ]
when I I asked about the inside or outside thing what I really wanted to know was do these plants need polinated? If so then ouside it is---
yep, but you could also do it by hand, or rather a q-tip, craft paintbrush, im using a small make-up brush just incase, cause i havent seen as many bumble bees as i usaly do this year.
mark hope your uncle gets home ok, that would suck being broke down so far away from home, i herd neem oil is good for keepin away bugs, i cant seem to find any around here though,
One of my eggs, although still fairly small, is starting to yellow!
I hope it has fertile seeds in it, and I get them before it's too late for the plant ... I'm still losing leaves, and I saw more of those @^$#^$* spider mites today!
All my new buds keep falling off as well... but the 7 eggs I have still seem to be hanging in there, and now with that one that's yellowing...
I keep forgetting about this topic. I had transplanted mine to the garden and they don't look so well but are surviving. I keep forgetting to water anything outside which I'm sure doesn't help. Usually when I forget to water outside it will eventually rain. It hasn't rained in a couple weeks and I've only remembered to water a few times. I need a watering reminder thingy of some sort.
awsome pic diane, so glad everyones getting eggs! im still getting flowers,but happy about that! after all it took me what? 3 trys :}
cheryl, i water on the weekends, its easy to remember, cause i just think back if it rained that week or not. make a day like sunday to be waterday. [or whatever day you have free] least that works for me:}
Everyone really seems to enjoy growing these.. but I don't have much of a green thumb.. so I think I would have to pass.. I think it would cause me more frustration than anything.
awsome pic lynne! thats what mine look like [except i got some holes in my leaves] but their still bushy, lots of flowers, and one egg fourmin! whoo hoo i got a egg growin!!!!
youll get em next time penny

Found my camera! My Wonder eggs aren't doing too well... They keep losing leaves, and those #@$%^**# spider mites keep coming back... Here's what pics I took:
Thanks, carol :kissie... I have a few more seeds left... but I'm hoping that those two yellow ones ripen enough that I can harvest seeds before the plants dies..
I hope so too, Mark, but I j ust wanted to let you know
and actually it is a shame you live so far away--i have 6 pots of the Wonder Egg plants--and all are alive & healthy---
I tried to take pics of them after I transplanted them for the 2nd time, BUT apparently I need to delete pics from my camera first---AND that means a trip to somewhere to get them printed.--(my camera software is still NOT loaded on my computer)---well, on day soon, still not driving too much---

wow mark thats awsome! your eggs are a dark yellow! i think youll get to harvest the eggs! my info says eggs turn white to golden yellow [yours look golden to me] let them over ripe to harvest, whoo hoo mark your more than half way there!! im not shure what overripe means? are you feeding it every week?
oops wrong page! cant wait to see your pics carol!

my Wonder egg plants are starting to develop flower heads. I am so excited. And me, I cannot take pics--my camera is full and I can do nothing about it right now. Did I mention since transplanting, the are growing so fast I am in awe? well I am!!
FYI: My brothers friend loves plants so I gave him one of them, and I sent my brother the GH web site, & told him I thought he should join.--

Penny - I have some seeds I can send you now from last year - they are still good.
My plants are not doing well either, Mark - the intense heat of this summer, followed by the heavy rains we've had this week have done a job on the leaves, BUT... I do have a couple of eggs starting out - YEA!!!
Oh and Mark... your yellow eggs are perfect! They are doing exactly what they should be - wait until they turn brown and dry out completely before taking the seeds out. They will look shriveled up when the time is right.
I have one in the ground too , it had only gotten one bloom and it dropped off before fully blooming But I'm still leaving it there, with my fingers crossed!,, Here the one in the pot and now the egg has turned golden/yellow!
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
Ok, those are really cool plants!! Are they annuals or perinials? What zone do they grow best in? Where can I get one or some seeds? I know, I know too many questions, lol.
Unigirl, they are annuals, I'm pretty sure they can grow most anywhere, but I'm not sure what zone they prefer..you may be able to find some seeds at a Walmart or something, but many members here have some seeds... I have a bunch of yellow eggs now, so If I am able to harvest seeds I'll be more than happy to share!
WEll, my plants juuuuust about bit the dust... Sunday night tehy were looking terrible, so i took them and ''threw' them on the porch... they were losing big leaves and small ones like crazy... they were almost nude! It happened to rain alll day Monday[yesterday], so that did them good...I found a big pot outside and re-planted them all into it.. there should be more than enough room for them all, and they seem to be doing better already, outside in the yard...as long as they make it lnog enough so that I can harvest eggs, I'll be fine! I have a good 6 or 7 yellow eggs..
Oh my, a nude plant, I wouldn't know anything about that. I am so sorry to hear that. I hope it comes back strong and healthy. I would appreciate the seeds so I can try this for myself, even though from what I hear it takes lots of patience for it to bloom and "egg". I am not one with a lot of that to spare, lol. I keep yelling at my daylilies because they can't bloom enough for me. Thank you in advance.
Unigirl, I know how you feel. I've been waiting all season for my stargazer lilies and they've had buds on them for over a month now and the buds keep getting bigger but just won't bloom.
My wonder eggs are surviving though. I thought maybe there wasn't much hope for them when I transplanted them directly into the garden but they're trying to make it. I had a dream last night that one of them had flower buds on it. I'll have to inspect them this morning because the last time I had a dream like that about something in my garden in turned out to be true.
