I have this kid. A teenager who is generally giving me tizzy-fits. I received a letter from school today about this kid. She is a sophomore (10th grade). Jonni passed her High School Exit Exam! I am thrilled to bits. The CAHSEE, California High School Exit Exam is fairly new. I think last year was the first year implemented. You don't pass=you don't get a diploma. It is weeding out a lot of marginal students (and marginal teachers and marginal schools). It is first given in 10th grade and if you don't pass then you have a couple of opportunities in 11th and 12th. Jonni passed it! First try! (I won't tell you how surprised I am. It would put a damper on her achievement.)

Yes, Her report card is a disaster. I got a call from another parent on Tuesday, telling me that Jonni and her friend had skipped the last three weeks of school. I spent part of yesterday finding out it wasn't true. (Just the past week). She will attend summer school. I am applying for independent study next year. It will be the only way she could possibly graduate on time. (sigh) But I am smiling today!

I need to count my few blessings. 1. Jonni loves school (social) so getting her up and dressed and there is not a problem. 2. I like all of the friends that I have met. 3. Her teachers like her and say she is one of the sweetest girls around. 4. She has never been suspended. 5. huuuh?..... Ummmm.....(4 is good right?)

i'm so happy for you tina... getting that test out of the way is mega major! and #5 is every now and then, she surprizes you with things to be proud of
So, when Jonni got home from school, I said "Here, I got a letter from school." with a somber look on my face. She got that look on her face that said "Oh crap!" (insert teen language that I don't allow.) Then she opened it to the side explaining the test and requirements. I told her to turn it over (her scores). She was so happy! She tried calling all of her friends but couldn't get hold of anyone. It was a good day. Thanks everyone.
