Thanks for the compliments. I made a few changes in the plant placement before I actually planted them, so my next pic things will look a little different. I did find a nursery that carries the japanese forest grass and that will go the in left corner, to help brighten that full-shade area. Now, maybe, just maybe, I can convince Adam that we need to go to Wichita tonight (it's about an hour drive away)... The nursery said that they have "quite a few" left but then again, so did the nursery here until they suddenly sold out! I think I've begun to obsess. notme Is that a bad thing? blush

The Freecycle person who is taking my extra bricks just emailed me to say that "in case you need any pine bark mulch" (do you see it, all laid down in the pic?) the city has site where we can just go and take what we want (from xmas trees and the eternal tree-hacking the city does). All that we want. For free. It is such my luck that she tells me this after I spent $20 on it last night and have used it already. But, it's good to know for the future--after all, the garden isn't Done.

Since my Dad works in Wichita, I had him (and my mother) pick up the Japanese forest grass. The nursery closed before we'd be able to make it there. We went to Wichita and ate somewhere nice (for a change) and the kids were very good! -- Hmmm, that almost sounds like we ate the kids-- Anyway. On the way home, stopped by my parents house and the hakonechloa aureola was instead hakonechloa all gold! Nothing against my parents, but when I called the nursery, I was very specific about the cultivar's name and even spelled it to the woman. When my parents when to get it, I had spelled it out entirely for them as well. You'd think that a nursery would be USED to working with specific cultivars and would say, "No, we don't have aureola but we do have all gold, which is quite similar." I'm annoyed with that nursery. The color on this plant, right now, is a lovely lime green but I am wondering if it will turn gold/yellow? I've seen it described on many sites as "chartreuse" what the heck color is that? I thought it was grey because a chartreuse cat is grey but I don't think that is the case here.

Most greenhouses have inexperienced workers. Seems to be the trend with the low pay they get.

Chartreuse is a limey green colour, it will stand out nice and bright against your white siding. It will stay more green than gold. I've seen some before at the nursery, very pretty.

Yup, DD bought me a plant book for Christmas, the cr@ppy thing has everything in latin it seems. Can't find a thing in it.

I mean if I have to google the common name, I may as well just click on the link at the same time.

That is too funny! Makes the book fairly worthless, huh?

I'm trying to learn latin names for plants as I go, but the problem I have is if I call the nursery, I wind up having to spell it 'cause I can't pronounce it worth a darn and I don't know the common name!

Thanks, mrw, I'm glad that you approve of the garden thus far. But, I was wondering, are you calling me a drama queen? lol lol

Just a by the side update here, it's been raining since last night, occasionally pouring, and there is no flooding in the garage, the mulch has stayed put, and all the plants are looking fabulous.

And, we went and looked at a pond that his boss set up last year, and now, suddenly, DH is excited to get it put in. Since I have Saturday off, for DD's fishing Derby, we'll try to get it in afterwards. Surely it's not too much for an afternoon job...

Also the bosses wife gave me several transplants of gold moneywort and ajuga. She even said she'd give me some zebra grass and japanese painted fern when it comes time to divide them. She's got a beautiful yard with plants everywhere.

I have no idea. I checked and it said it should be processed within 2 days and it's been 3 but it never told me that they've shipped it out. I'm sure it will be here next week though. Since my paypal is being a pain in the a$$, I just sent in a money order, so it's taking a little longer. It's kinda big--about 5 feet across and it's going into a 7 foot area. I can't wait for it to get here!!

I'm happy to know that I'm not in any trouble, Jiffy. And I'm even happier to see that Brushwood had something that you needed.

Here is a pic of the garden as of this evening. The whole at the bottom of the pic is my pond. Or my pond-to-be. A couple of the plants are misplaced right now--they are waiting for the pond area to be planted and then they'll go in over there. Still having bought a hanging planter and a shepards hook for the sweet potato vine. I was thinking of putting the coleus in the top of the planter too. But I'm not sure on that. What do you ladies think? Ideas or suggestions?

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that. They never told me it was coming, I tripped over it coming into the house this afternoon. FedEx left it right next to the door. I was thrilled that it came so much sooner than I had expected!

I just join the site today and have so enjoyed this thread. Is there a way to be notified when there is an update to a specific thread? On other forums there is, but I don't know about this one. I want to keep up with this one for sure!

Sure, at the very top of the thread there is 2 little tabs on the left one says 'new reply' and the other says 'other options' click on other options then click on watch post (something like that). If you'd like to get an email every time a post is added to this, just go up to 'my stuff' click it, then to my watched lists click that and then you should be able to edit your watched lists to get an email. Hope that helps!
