These poor annuals got zapped by frost a bit the other day.
I hate staking trees, but after a bad ice storm it wasn't a choice. We staked it in May and will untie it in September, we have to move the strings up this week.
As you can see, a few things are starting to grow, our weather was awful this year.

Really nice! I am not sure if I could handle frost issues this time of year. I really love the filled in bed, what a nice pop of color to brighten your day. It looks beautiful!
We usually get out last frost in the middle of June after the full moon. The full moon fell at the end of June this year though. It was a light frost but it blackened all my wave petunias and shrivelled up a small hosta..

I never planted Goat's beard before so I don't really know, it was an end-of-season plant for 50 cents. It is only a foot and a half tall, the tag says it is supposed to get tall and big, I hope so.
You mean the pic in front of the house? Those plants are a light creamy yellow Hosta. I bought two pots last year and got 8 plants when divided.

WOW - I am JEALOUS! The 2 dwarf goats beard I got 2 days ago were on "sale" for $3.35 and they were only in 4 inch pots and only about 6 inches across or so!!! The dwarf variety is different though, and I don't think it's found as often as the "regular".
Can you take a closer shot of the creamy yellow hosta? I've never seen one so light colored before!
I'll get a shot later, it's pouring rain out at the moment. I am trying to find the tag to tell you the variety, . The goats beard is "Sylvester" 48 inches high(so the tag says)
I always hit the end of season sale at different places. I got about $100 worth of plants last year for $12. I'll be hitting them again for the new flower bed I plan to put in on the side as well.
