I have two evergreen shrub areas that came with the house. I have no idea what kind of evergreen they are. I am guessing they are at least 20-30 years old. In the spring, they loose some of their needles, turning yellow when the new growth comes thru. (They never look naked during this time, so it's not a full dropping of the needles).

The needles are soft, not pricky. I have a close up photo of the needles, notice my thumb in the photo to give perspective of the needle length.

looks like Yew ... taxus species

I thought it might be Yew but really am kind of clueless in the evergreen department.
