Today Maddie got moved to the NSCU...neonatal special care unit...its the feeder/grower side! No more intensive care!!! Yay!!! We aren't sure if she was moved out of necessity for an ICU bed spot or not, but we don't really care. She's on the "other side" of the unit....the mysterious side that we've only seen through a single door! We don't even know what goes on in that side of the unit!
Wow, she is doing so well- I remember when out twins got to move- was a big deal for all of us... Way to go Maddie- she'll be home sooner than you know now.... Nana
Here is a picture that was taken today. I just love this picture. It was soo cute and all the nurses that saw her like this couldn't believe she did this by herself. She put herself in this position after Stephen had held her for quite a while and put her back into the incubator...
The tube is her feeding tube that ALWAYS gets in the way. She has pulled it out 3 days in a row...all DURING a feeding! I think she's ready for a bottle and trying to tell the doctors.
We got the OK to start breastfeeding Maddie yesterday, so we did that twice. Today the doctor said she is doing well enough to breastfeed at every other feeding, so now I'm staying down at the hospital at the Ronald McDonald house until they start breast feedings with bottle feedings when I'm not here. The doctor said if all goes well she might...MIGHT...go home at the end of next week. That depends on how well she continues to feed. At this point, if she'll feed from a bottle better than the breast, so be it. I just want her to come home so things can finally slow down! That's all as far as updates for now. Back to the NICU.
Yup...we lived at the Ronald McDonald house for the entire week so that I could breastfeed her at every feeding. She and I are both having a bit of a hard time of it, so I decided to pump and then bottle feed it to her. she's doing MUCH better with the feeding now. This morning she ate 60 mL (2 ounces)!!!......a full feed for her is only 40 (which is just over an ounce). She is gaining weight...after loosing a bit...and is up to 4 lbs. 11.5 ozs. They started to turn the temperature in the incubator down. When she hits 26 degrees Celsius, then they turn it off for a day and if she continues to do well, then they will put her in a bassinet. They started that process earlier in the week and today the box got turned off. As far as I know, she's still on track for coming home at the end of the week. We will talk to the dr. about that tomorrow morning. I know she has to pass her car seat test and she has to have a test on her kidneys as a precaution (which is no big deal). We are signed up for Tuesdays CPR class. We were originally supposed to do it last week, but it got cancelled. We also need to be trained for the monitor that she will come home on and do our room in there at the NICU. As far as I know, that is all that is left....but I might be surprised with something else tomorrow....we'll see.
So, that is the update for today. I will unload some pictures for you all later this evening. She doesn't have any tubes at all now. They pulled out the NG tube the other day.
