The baby it is for is almost 5 months old. If they take pictures I'll post a picure of him wearing the gown.

The gown is about 42 inches long.

I embroidered his name and baptism date (in white thread) inside the hem on his right side.

I remember making niece's preemie clothes. I found it so hard with all the tiny pieces and everything had to be seemed just right so it wouldn't scratch her thin skin. Never want to have to make those clothes ever again.

Very nice gown, glenda. After attempting pin-tucks I've given up clothing-making. Unless it's a simple dress for the girls, I'm not doing it. That gown is gorgeous, I'd love to see some pics of the baby in there!

My sewing machine has a special foot for pintucks. I just put in a twin needle, thread on a second spool of thread, and sew.

The hardest part is making sure the first line is straight because all the other pintuck lines follow the line of the first one. Marking a 60 inch straight line around the bottom was not easy!!

Glenda, I love that christening gown!!!

How to make ;your first line of stitches straight? First decide where you want the line. Put the needle down thru to hold the material.. Then take some Masking tape and put it on the machine, at the edge of the material you just put under the foot.........And follow that tape the whole time you sew.

Also the deep lines you see on your right, on the machine are for that purpose .. Guides to show where to sew......You might have a metal guide with the machine that you put on to make your margain.

The way I make my stitching line straight sometimes is a three step process.

1. make sure you have a straight edge on your fabric

2. use a ruler (a sewing ruler) to measure where you want the line to be, especially if your line is more than 1 inch from the edge.

3. draw a line along the ruler with a water soluble marking pen.

The water soluble ink disappears with a little spritz of water. My longest ruler is 2 ft. long so marking a line longer than that can somtimes be a little tricky.

More work your way.

I prefer the masking tape, an you just pull it off when finished.
