Lynne ~ This is GREAT! I've been enjoying your pond all the way from Maine! Thanks for sharing the photos and the story.
Merme
We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
Wow, Lynne, your pond looks fantastic! Thanks for the videos, those are so cool and give a great feel to the pond that a stationary pic just couldn't provide. You both did a great job!
Everything was put on hold this week while Don tried to figure out how to get the waterfall flowing with a bit more force. He's changed the angle of the piping from the pump to the waterfall, and reconfigured some of the rocks down the falls.
He also needs to vacuum out the pond - there is a lot of dirt in the bottom from the first burst of water, and now from working on it once again. He also bought some stuff that is supposed to coagulate the dirt to make it easier to remove?
So, no fishies out there yet. And yes, I was hoping to overwinter koi out there, because they will get far too big to fit in any tank we have indoors.
Oh, Lynne, how beautiful!!!!! I'm so happy for you and Don. Everything looks great. Love the gargoyles! Where'd you get them? The grasses look like they're very happy there. Keep up the pics so we can enjoy your growing paradice.
I got those 2 at Christmas Tree Shops the beginning of summer. But yesterday, Amy and I found these 3 who needed a nice home, at Dollar Tree - it's a new store here, and they had them out with their Halloween stuff. We just had to grab these - and they were the only ones that did not have a foot or wing broken off - sheeeesh!
Amy especially wanted the frowning one - what's up with that???
Ohhhhhhhhhh, Don saw our first in the new pond this morning. (We had 2 frogs in the tiny bathtub pond last summer!) He was just floating on the top of the water, but when he saw Don, he did a nose dive to the bottom of the center of the pond. We can't see him, because there is still a lot of dirt down there that Don will hopefully be able to vacuum out when he gets home soon.
I just hope he doesn't vacuum the frog up too!!! EWWWWWW!
Hey you got a good Buy with those three!! I like the frwoning one too! ... is the gargoyles going to be the theme of the pond?? OR are they special touches ,, What else are you planning on incorporating around the pool.. A bench/sitting area or two??

Wendy - we just got those gargoyles at Dollar Tree 2 days ago, but as I said... they were the only ones of the whole bunch that did not have a broken off foot or wing!!!
Dodge - see this thread for info on gargoyles... //www.agardenersforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/121262#Post121262
Diane - I think they will just be accents around the pond, though I am having fun finding ones with different facial expressions! I didn't realize, after I bought the first 2, months ago at Christmas Tree Shops, that they are sold around Halloween time - I'll have to keep an eye out for them now!
Yep - I have an adirondack bench, ottoman, and table set in blue for one side, and the iron arbor bench for the other, but they won't be placed until we dig out the gardens and I put some plants in there.
The grasses I planted on top of the waterfall hill are drying out and browning completely!!! It's really hard to water them up there, and the dirt mound is sooooooo dry that even when I do, the water seeps through the mound. Everytime they've predicted rain since I planted them, it's passed us by. I'm just hoping they hang on til frost so they can perk up again next spring.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh - poor Don!!! He started up the pump again late yesterday afternoon, and it had 2 leaks in the pipes!!! He had to run to Home Depot at 9p.m. to get some stuff to fix it up again today - the poor guy can't catch a break!!! The GOOD news is... that the flow was a bit stronger when he turned the pump back on, so he's happy about that!
Dodge - I'd like to see what you have - I need something to cover this hill. I planted 4 creeping junipers on the backside yesterday, but once planted they looked so small!!!
Tina - I'm not sure what we will do to hide the pump - it is BIG!!!
Not sure if we have a soaker hose, Diane - I think not, but I'll ask Don - great idea!!!
Here is the photo of the lil moss like stuff for around stones.....carefree.. grows in around stones and only about 3 inches tall.. always. LMK if you want some.
Dodge is that a low growing sedum??? Does it ever get tiny yellow or white blooms on it? I have some that looks simular to that , that spreads very quickly and blooms tiny yellow flowers!
Opppps Closing this one it is over count!!!!!
Opening another one We are not done looking Lynne!!
lynne, what about a sweet autumn clematis???? i don't know if it is slow to start like the others...mine came with the house....but it has grown very quickly and in the late summer it has tiny little white flowers all over. it will climb on anything or you can let it go as ground cover and it will ramble across the ground. about 2 months ago, we took down a tree that had it grown almost all the way up to the top, i cut it down to the ground, it has since come out better than ever...even in this hot, dry weather.
