There are 3 kinds of hummingbirds in FL, so I know they're around somewhere. The question is, how are they going to know I have a feeder (once I get one)? We have several plants that attract hummingbirds, but we have never seen one around. Does that mean we're not likely to, feeder or not?

If you hang it, they WILL come! Hummers have 8X binocular vision and have learned how to recognize an artificial feeder from hundreds of yards away.

he is right, they will find it, it just may take awhile. i have the same 3 hummers year after year, wish i had more. mom has got about 15 and 4 feeders! if you can find them, i think the best feeder is called "best 1" hummingbird feeder. they are copied from the old time hanging IV bottles, they never drip and are the easiest to clean. you may have better luck waiting till next spring. hummers always have a "scout" that comes first searching for the good stuff. i watch the migration maps and usually put mine out around the middle of april and wait, and wait, and wait...

"Two Bean Bags is HOPPING for a Hummer"...funny!
Would Best 1 be available at Lowes or HD? And I'm guessing I could google a migration map? Would it be too late to try now? We have an interesting variety of birdlife here, but a hummer would just top it all off!

i have never seen them at big chain stores....i found mine at the local co-op store. try there, and farm and garden stores. maybe google it? the maps are online too. oh, the way it is made, i only have trouble with ants, not wasps and other flying things. check my other post in "hummingbird feeder, a question", i talked about there too and my recipe for nectar. note......if the nectar starts to turn cloudy in the feeder, which it seems to on humid days, it is time to change it!

I'm in Salt Springs, Fl and I finally have hummers. As long as you have some bright flowers in the area, they'll find the feeder. Just remember to provide fresh sugar water at least twice a week. I put red food coloring in mine but they say it's not necessary. Now they fight over the feeder!! Got three more feeders and they're still in the process of finding those.

Guess I'll be shopping for a feeder! I'm hopeful since they're flocking to your feeders, Gaillardia; you're north-east of me a bit.
I found the thread with the recipe, Faerywatcher. Thanks!
Wreenie, I love the art glass feeders! Any thoughts on plastic vs glass? Glass get hotter? View of nectar blocked by stunning color swirls? Weight wise, I suppose a garden hook would work.

Here's the website I use. The tweeter is a favorite of the hummers here in Indiana. http://www.jjcardinal.com

Thanks, Dhuber! The site has lots of variety and prices to choose from. And the glass flower feeded is pretty interesting, especially since the one I have I thought was a bud vase without the stand!

 cute! I do love the tweeter. They rush it one right after another. When they land it tilts, then when one lands on the other side it tilts that a way. so it becomes a tug of war and they love it!
