I don't know what this is. I have these rocks in fron of my front porch, and these are growing out of one. They have been there since I moved in a couple of years ago..
I remember my aunt having these around her patio when I was young, but they were in the ground (if I remember correctly).
I believe you have some Hens & Chicks there, but don't take my word for it, you have the real experts at your disposal here. By the way, they look very nice nestled in that rock!
Thanks! I googled, and they do appear to be Hens & Chicks. There seem to be many varieties of them as well. I'll have to read up and see if I can move any of them out of the rock and into the ground. Thanks again! :)
You're welcome! I love pretending I know what I'm talking about. ;~}
but you weren't pretending... you did good!
the proper name is sempervive... or something like that. i can never remember, i just call them hens and chicks or cats and kittens (what my mother in law calls them). the just don't grow well for me here
Thanks, Jiffymouse, nice of you to say so! Always something new to learn and I love it. I wonder why hens and chicks won't grow well for you in your area? We had them in south-central IL and I'm sure I've seen them here. I hope so since I plan to try them in my garden. Full sun?
Yikes! Florida's middle name is Humidity! We had an extrememly heavy and long rain last night and today is a sauna outside. But, too much to do in the garden. Besides, I could do with loosing a little water weight. :~D
It's always really humid here (SE Missouri) and they seem to grow just fine out of that rock. :) Right now I'm dealing with a lot of heat that is doing a number on my tomato plants. We have yet another week of around 100F temps to look forward to also. Yuck...
