Triss - that scarf came out great! Thanks for showing it - I had recently bought several skeins of that same yarn in a different colorway at a close-out store for 99 cents each - I don't know what I'm going to use it for, but I appreciate seeing how it knits up!

As for my latest project... I am making myself another sweater out of this Red Heart Kooky yarn - I wanted a black base with some color, and really like it so far. This is the back that I just started mid-day today.

[Linked Image]

I also have the blue sweater that I've been working on, that I posted in my thread earlier this summer. So far, I've made the back, one front side, and one sleeve. I started the new sweater for a change of pace, and also to see how that yarn knits up.

It does still give me an idea of how the colors look when used - interesting how the blues in yours sorta came out in a line. My colorway is called parfait - I bought 6 skeins, and have no idea what to make out of the bright colors - I don't need to make any more scarves right now...

Oh I love that!!!! Those little 'dabs' of color in the black is beautiful!!
I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished sweater.

This whole topic is getting me all excited to start crocheting something!!!

So true, Triss! Since I've joined 2 knitting groups here in town this summer, I've gotten some great ideas of projects to make - including the 2 sweaters I am currently working on. Plus some of the women are so much more experienced than I am, that they are a great help when I have problems!

I started to crochet a scarf with this yarn,[Linked Image]
with the size hook reccomended on the label. And I didn't like the way it lay. So I ripped it out and started again yesterday with a larger hook. now I like it. I got it on clearance for $1.97(reg. 6 or 7.99 ??) only problem is I'm very allergic to wool. And this is 10% yup just 10% wool, and where the end of the scarf lay on my knees, mind you I had jeans on, made me itch like crazy. I was very careful not to touch myself while working with it, now I'l need something to put over my knees while i finish. I have 2 skeins in this brown and an off white skein of the same. 1 skein at about 6" wide is about 2 feet long.

{{I'll take a pic when i get to work.}}

Can't wait to see your picture, Wrennie - I really like the looks of that yarn!
So sorry you are having problems with it - while wool also makes me itch when I wear it, I don't have any problems working with it. Do you take anything for it, such as Benadryl?

I've never seen that yarn before - where did you find it?

Here is my sweater back today - I'm up to 9 1/2 inches, and I started it yesterday mid-day.
I love watching how the color spurts work out in the rows!

That was in JoAnns. I dont see it on the patons site so i guess they discontinued it.
I can't take Benadryl. I seem to be allergic to it. touched Makes me drunk, air head-y. Can't concentrate, no retention. I took it once, my friend was over, she repeated the same sentence 5 times. I still had no idea what she said. I knew it was something about one of her sons, but what about him I couldnt say.

Interesting reaction to Benadryl. Amy took it when she was little and became so nasty to her little friend who was over for a playdate, that I had to call the mom to pick her up early. The second the kid was out of the house, Amy was fast asleep - never again will she take it orally, but she does use the gel for bites and rashes and it's fine.

Why is it that I never find any good yarns on sale at JoAnn's?!?
A woman in one of my knitting groups is making a beautiful sweater out of some yarn she also got on clearance there, but everytime I go in there is NOTHING, NADA, ZIPPO marked down!!!

baby doses dont do a thing for me. May as well take water. The gel/lotion stuff I'm fine with too.

My JoAnns hide their clearance on the back end of the aisle on the end caps.

I never see clearance in my JoAnn's either. I will have to look a little harder next time I am in there.

I really like the shading in that Triss!

Lynne its not a difficult yarn to crochet. I'd think to knit it would be a bit more difficult just because the yarns thickness varies so much. I'm using a N (Ithink, it isn't marked) hook. I'd use at least a 15 needle to get it to lay nicely.

Thanks Wrennie - the yarn I am using now, is actually a "bulky" yarn, and calls for size 13 needles, but I am having no trouble using size 10s.

Triss - those scarves are VERY nice! I, too, really like the last one!
How long did you make it?

I am on my way to driving Amy to the large mall where JoAnn's is, so since I need needles today anyway, guess I'll have to check out the yarns while I'm there, right?!? Maybe this time they'll have some on clearance - I do check the end caps thoroughly while I'm there, but all I've seen is the eyelash type that all the stores are trying to get rid of! Wish me luck!

This calls for a L hook, or 11 needles. When i used the L it looked, messy (?) forced (?) crumpled , maybe crumpled describes it best.

Triss, I love that bottom scarf. What type of yarn is it? It looks crocheted? Triple crochet stitches possibly? I'm gonna have to make one of those. If there is a purple variegated like that, my little girls will both have one!

OK - let me preface this by saying that I am having a BAAAAAAD day all around!

Soooo... I had to drive Amy to the mall, and went into JoAnn's there.

The good...
they had lots of Wrennie's pebble yarn and I was able to get a very pretty "blue marble" color for a scarf for a particular person here on the forums. YEA! clap

The BAD...
they had the new Bernat Felting yarn on sale for $2.99 - a great price, but did not have the color I loved at A.C.Moore ($3.99) on the shelf in JoAnn's.

The UGLY!!! uhuhh
The young girl behind the service desk would not call anyone up front to see if they had any more - "everything we have is out" - sooooooo not true - there are boxes way up high on top of the selling shelves full of yarn!!!

The UGLIER uhuhh uhuhh-
she would NOT give me a raincheck - they "NEVER do that!"
Again... NOT true - I have ALWAYS gotten rainchecks in that store for an advertised item that was not in stock, but she called a manager and she yelled on the walkie-talkie - NO!!!

The UGLIEST! uhuhh uhuhh uhuhh
She would NOT take more than 1 coupon, even though I have many friends who have bought 6, 7, 8 skeins of yarn at one time using a 40% off coupon on each one - I only wanted to use 2!!!

Can you say this just clinched my bad day?!? boohoo

At least I do have some very nice yarn, thanks to Wrennie's post here. kissie

My Joanns had the blue too. It was pretty. I didnt care for the red. Did you see that one? I just loved the brown and off white tho'. Just wish I'd read the label first. **itchitchitch**
Now I'm jonesing for a new yarn.
I have a bunch of the eyelash. I like to mix that with other yarns. I actually made a coupleof little purses with it.
This one i used beads to weight down the flap

I saw that purse in your photos, Wrennie, and really liked it!
Have you gifted it, or are you selling it, or using it?

They did have all the colors in my JoAnn's, but I liked the blue best, and then the brown you used. Since I'm not into red, I didn't like that one, nor the one that had a pinkish tinge to it - that was a very strange color!

Wrennie, that green scarf is so pretty. Do you use a pattern? I can't sew at all so I don't know why I'm asking about a pattern. Wonder if there's a Knitting for Dummies video. Or is it crochet?

Sheri that green scarf is knit. No pattern. I just cast on until it was about the width i wanted, did stockinette and added fringe. Thats made with the Bernat soft chunkeey SO SOFT!!!

Horse-Opoly is just like the traditional Monopoly game. I can check if theres a "for ages" whatever and up on it tomorrow.

Triss said you found a scarf in the store for mega bucks. That was crazy!

Lynne the purse is at my store for sale. Doesnt mean I wont gift it away at some point if it doesnt sell.

All the scarves are at the store too for sale. Dont tell on me but i usually cant stand having a scarf on! lol

Thanks Wrennie. I don't know what stockinette or any of the sentence means.

I was thinking of my grandson - he loves horses. He's only 4 though. He can play some games but I don't think he's ready for real monopoly.

Sheri, Monopoly, any kind, can be adapted for the lil ones. Just use the dice for a race around the board. Good for counting and basic addition. You can pass out cards to match the spots you land on. Save the money for a later age.

triss, that is a double. once over, then pull through the hole, that gives you 3 on the hook. pull through 2, gives you 2 on the hook, pull through 2, and doing it again.

i can show it better than type it though.

wrennie, i LOVE that little purse, and the scarves. but i like mine wider than those. i crocheted me one that was about 8" wide, i'll post a pic later. i love it, i just did it in double crochet until it was long enough to suit me! lol

When it is cold enough here and Yes sometimes the wind blows hard here when it's cold Burrrrr I like the wider scarfes too so I can wrap it over my head and criss-cross around my neck twice and tuck it in my jacket, nothing worse then the cold wind cutting on your ears and making them burn!! Hey Jiffy We've got about a month too to wear one!

Thanks for all the sympathy about my trip to JoAnn's all! kissie
I actually had to go back to that store yesterday, as I realized that I hadn't bought enough yarn for the scarf, since I'm making it a bit wider than I usually do - no biggie - I'm just glad they had a few of the same dye lot left!!! thumbup They had actually put out a bunch more, but all in a single other dye lot - PHEW!

Friday just was NOT a good day for me, all around, as I had mentioned on the previous page. Aside from not knowing where my daughter was for a few hours, and needing to get her packed and ready for her flight to Puerto Rico yesterday - can we say HURRICANE DEAN was nearby Puerto Rico and I was a NERVOUS WRECK??????? nervous boohoo badday Sooooo... after having knit my new black with colored flecks sweaterback for most of Thursday and Friday, I ended up having to rip out the entire 12 inches long and 71 stitches wide piece at 2a.m.!!! boohoo You see... I had added a new skein of yarn, but even though it was from the same lot, the colors were much bushier, and the distance between the colors was much much longer than on the first skein, and the whole thing was messing up the look of the back piece! So... I tried just ripping out a few rows, 2 times, but because it is a boucle yarn, I could not get all the stitches back on the needles without some running all the way down several inches - WHAT A MESS!!! Therefore, the entire thing was FROGGED, and I am back to square one - minus that skein of yarn that I've put in another room not to be used for this project. I just hope I have enough now, as I bought all they had in the store.

The GOOD thing is...
the bottom of the back piece was curling, as most stockinette pieces do, and I didn't know what I was going to do about that, so now I am starting over and can put a border on it with a different stitch to help hold it flat. Thank goodness there is a silver lining to all that aggravation on Friday!!! thumbup

I decided to start the pebbles scarf on the way to the airport yesterday, as I needed to get my mind off that sweater for a little bit, and since then, I've done 21 inches so far - I REALLY like the way the natural colors actually LOOK like pebbles in this yarn - thanks again, Wrennie, for mentioning it to us! kissie

Let's see what everyone else is up to today!

Can't wait to see your new yarn, Triss. Sorry you also had some frustration with your new project, but glad it's going better now.

Our Michaels doesn't have the pebbles yarn either - the only place I've seen it is JoAnn's. I am tempted to go back and buy a bunch more - it is so nice and warm on this very cold August day, and feels like a wonderful lap blanket as I am working on the scarf - I'm up to 41 inches long now. I just wish they would mark it down some more - the skeins are quite small at only about 50 yards in each. A blanket would be pretty expensive, even at the markdown price.

I just cannot get over how much it really looks like pebbles in the yarn -
whoever designed it was very clever. Too bad it didn't catch on and is not being sold anymore, other than clearance.

Triss I can get you some wednesday if you want and if my JoAnns still has some $1.97 a skein, the scarf I made, 10 stitches wide in single crochet is about 6 feet long with 3 skeins.

Just curious Wrennie - how wide does 10 stitches mean?
I am knitting 22 stitches on size 11 needles and it is 7 1/2 inches wide.

I know crocheting generally uses less yarn, but I'm trying to see how much...

cindy you missed it lol

the veil was measured on her head with the dress on so i could get the length just right. i'll post a pic of her with it on. in the wedding section on another day.

YEA for my DAD! clap lol thumbup

I had to go to NYC with my parents and sister yesterday, to take mom to a geriatric specialist doctor. Knowing how long the waiting would most likely be (and was!), I took along the scarf I've been working on this week. I had some time to kill while at my parents' house, so I took it out and started working on it. My mom loved the yarn right away. When dad came into the room, we asked him what he thought the yarn looked like all knit up - right away he said...

PEBBLES!!!

That's exactly what the yarn is called! (thanks again, Wrennie!!!)

Jiffy - your scarf and veil are very nice! It's so very special that you are putting all this work into the veil for your daughter - she will have this fond memory for the rest of her life!

Almost done with mine, but I think I'll let the recipient post pictures if she wants to - don't want to spoil it before she sees it first hand, ya know?

Can't wait to see what everyone is working on - we need MORE pictures everyone!

Which yarn did you find, Jessica?

I've been practicing and ripping it back out again, Lynne. You don't want pictures. I haven't crocheted in years. I decided not to attempt a big project for my swappee. I need more practice.I am sending her/him something I made years ago when my hands still were agile. (and tough)

I have been reviewing, Lynne. I really haven't forgotten how to crochet. My hands need to remember how to work. I probably won't be able to in winter when my arthritis really kicks in. But I can now. I am not working out the kinks in the work so much as working out the kinks in my hands. I really like thread work. But it will be a while before I attempt any of that with these gnarled fingers. I don't want to rest them too much though because they will do nothing but get more crippled then. My hands are really good at pulling weeds.

Triss

Since I seen your wedding photos from april.....and noticed the red gowns, which was very catchy......
3 weeks ago I went to a wedding neice and it had gorgous red also.......
Gowns,
BRide carried red roses in a ball.
Church aisle was all in deco with red and white real rose petals. And the reception was red and white rose petals on each round tables.....
That was a pricey wedding............

BUt I love your photos ....Starts with a leaning bride and he favorite tree.

Good work, thanks for sharing.

I like VERY much, Wendy!!! Especially the first one with the blues - it's so soothing to look at, and the dragonfly adds just the right touch!

May I ask what kinds of prices you are setting on them?

hmmmm - I'm not really good at that either...

how do they hang - by the filament thread?
Maybe $7 for the larger ones and a bit less for the smaller?
Is the pink one beach glass? I've always liked beach glass, but have never been lucky enough to find any on the beach. There are some places that are wall-to-wall people in search of it - craaaaaaazy!

oh they are all for sell! i was just lucky enough to be offered one of the front windows for my stuff, so i moved my "booth" to there for now! i tried to take a pic of it, but the glass messes it up. i have all my pieces in there, and i hung grapevine with fall leaves all over the top of it along the ceiling! i used tree stumps at different levels and put my pieces on them!

WOW how did I miss those?!? They are fantastic!!! I LOVE them!

As for your prices, $2.50 is certainly reasonable! Not sure about $7.50 for the others just because I've never seen anything like that for sale around here. What sort of place are you selling them at? What kinds of customers does it get - locals, tourists?

Wendy have you figured out how much it costs you to make each one? Then figure a price on them.

there is a antique mall here in town that is very good, not alot of junk, just good stuff. the owner tries to push the local crafters so there is craft and art too! i have a small spot i rent for $25, i have only sold 1 piece, but i figured it would be a slow start here. this is a very small, low traffic town, (only 2 red lights), but it is pretty busy at holidays with the lake and all!
