Hi all!


I planted some rasberries and blackberries last summer, not in the greatest soil, however. I am in zone 5 - when should I look for them to sprout? I was going to just rototill the whole thing and replant, but I dont' want to kill what may come up?

If you're not seeing anything yet, I assume you planted seeds? Or did you buy plants? I'm not familiar with growing raspberries but I have blackberries. I'm in zone 8 and mine just got leafed out good in the last couple of weeks so yours are probably just not ready to come up yet. BTW, mine didn't go into the greatest soil either (clay) but I put a layer of compost around them each spring before mulching real good with wheat straw and they are doing real good.

I only know about Blackberries---but I would wait a bit---it is early yet---if they do not come back you will be no worse off tha if you rototilled them now----and even if you have to replant, and are a bit late doing so, as long as you take extra care of them you should be ok--at the beginning I would just be concerned with getting them estaqblished.
I would mulch well (I use grass clippings) and water on a regular basis. Good luck

Thanks guys! I'll give en' a couple of weeks! I have 6 more to go in anyway, I can always just go in and work some compost in by hand!
