I'm on the lookout now for one. Diane.Use a diapers filling in the potting mix in the cocoa fiber.notheing harmful is in it.
You know you could train a JMG vine in one of those...like with variegated foliage. some purple heart would hold up to the heat.I know....the heat is tough in TX on some plants.
I didn't do anything with my bubblegum planter this year...so I'll have to do something this fall.Ahh panseys& marigolds....they'll be able to live soon& maybe my nasturiums will start blooming again.(they not dead, just still)
I will age ungracefully until I become an old woman in a small garden..doing whatever the Hell I want!
Plants used vinca vine purple heart arrowroot vine purple wandering jew vine(well ripped out one side of a started plant) pothos(the galveston one) 4 variegated spider babies green white edge 1 clump of green spider plant with 3 babies already growing
I'm hopeing no one bought up all the marked down cloeus yet& I ran out of light....so will play with removeing starts from impatient hanging basket.

Hey Diane, got the birdcage planter outside being put to good use.
The thunbergia isn't growing as fast in there as it did on my trellis though. The rain knocked all the flowers off it. I guess by the end of August it'll really be long stemmed.
Here is the same plant on my trellis. 3 plants at each base.
Alllll right Loz!! I was beginning to wonder if you had done anything with it, By September it will be nice and full! Do you find you have to water it more than a potted plant?? I know I have to here,, This year I tried lantana,, wasn't deep enough so I place it in ground,, then I put in bombay Blue,, and it did fine for a while then this heat got to it, Now I want to go buy some peat starting pots and start seeds,, for something in it I can have inside and out,, OHHHHHHH OH I know,,,, Remember the bleeding heart vine I have?? I do have starts in water forming roots,, and from what I've read it can survive inside during winter months,, Heyyyyyy I think I'll give that a try!!

You should give it a try! I think that would look so pretty in there! What do you have to lose?
Yeah, I water it a LOT!!!!!!!!!!! Like a lot, lot! But I don't mind. I love the look of it. I have to be so careful pulling the vines thru that I don't break them.
I will absolutely buy thunbergia again. I just love it, a nice change from morning glories, although I have a ton of them growing too. Pink and purple. Black eyes susans are our state flower so I thought the BES vine would be very appropriate.
Boy. I need to show you what fried looks like because your yard isn't. The only thing green around here is me because I'm green with envy. That's a great idea. I'll bet those bird cages would sell.
I'm with you sherry, I could really show you fried and big cracks in the ground

And I could show you all a water bill(*that would make your head swim *)from watering the lawn consistently along with fav flowers and receipts from Home depot for Ironite ,( that stuff is not cheap ) horticulture corn meal to keep fungus down and to green up the grass,,and spreading compost and thrashing it in,, Believe me It has cost me [plenty in watering to have to green up a lawn in the drought,, it was plants I had referred to that had toasted,, only because I chose to eliminate them by way of keeping my fav's alive, I just refuse to have a totally brown cracked yard, I've worked too hard by my self alone the last few years to get it where it is considering it was a wreck that 2 large rott weiler dogs did~ a lot of damage to this yard (past owners )before we bought the house,, Holes were deep and wide,, and No grass at all,, ,, Btw That qoute was taken from a year ago and I'm still using a full paycheck to pay the water bill,, still buying ironite, still letting some flowersgo and keeping favs, during this dry hot summer of this year!

Its something you enjoy, and love. So why not .. My brother washed his vehicles and boat and it was costly.. I taught him to catch the rain water for the flowers. I have a huge plastic barrel I use to catch water off the roof......When it goes dry I use the hose.
It is murder to transplant at this time of a year......... I put shade on the new transplants.

I am thankful that we don't have a water meter. I use the heck out of the cold water...for the pool, for the pond, for watering. Hopefully all of you dry areas will get some good rains soon!
