Hi all, I am new to the forum but not gardening. This is my first year experimenting with bee balm. They are on there second year as i got them from the nursery and they were left over and winterized from the year before. I have the powdery mildew issue. They get half sun and half shade. They started to bloom in begining of july but only got a few blooms and kinda turned grey and stopped blooming and growing. Is there a way to treat this to get more blooms out of it this year? I know the mildew does not kill the plant just affects the look. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all Jay

Welcome, Jay. Soda water, spray on.( Like mixer). Or you can use baking soda and water to spray on. It may not help this year's flower crop but it works on the powdery mildew in a nice organic way.

You can do this now. So you have less chance of powdery mildew next year. It may even give you more bloom. But you want the plant to winter as healthy as possible so start whatever you are going to do soon.

Do I spray the base of the plant with that or can I spray the whole thing? Cause i Know you are not supposed to water the whole plant just the base so you can avoid the powdery mildew. You say soda water like canada dry soda water?

If they have already bloomed, you can cut them down to the ground and they will regrow fresh, new foliage. This is what I do with mine each summer, rather than have them looking all grey with mildew, and in about 3 weeks they get new growth. Then next year you can try the spray.

How often do you need to spray the bee balm? Can you spray it too much? I have that problem too! Ladyslipper
