My housemate has a 6' portion of porch rail--never used 'cuz doesn't fit. I thought I might turn it sideways and use it as a trellis for cukes and beans. Any thoughts? kat

Sounds great. Scarlet runner beans are good to eat and so pretty when they flower.

Great idea. My pole beans have gone above and beyond the 6 foot bamboo poles they are on.

I usually plant some but couldn't find any seeds this year. I picked up a pack(a few weeks ago) for next year though. I wonder how mini pumpkins would grow on a trellis?

Probably very well. My regular pumpkins I planted at the back of the garden so they could sneak through the chicken wire and up the hill. there is one very happy pumpkin hanging on the back fence.

Yup, just something different. Depends on if your looking for. Do you have any little ones? They'd love the pumkins.
Smaller cukes would be good also. I have an old crib I've been debating to use the side panel rungs against the shed for planting. just haven't got to it yet.
