Having just arrived at my get-away home in Winter Haven, Florida, I have found "white gunk" on my once-beautiful hybiscus bush. What in the world...? why

Maybe powdery Mildew? Try spraying them with soda water or if you go to a nursery or agway they have stuff made by bonide called fung-onil. Try that.

Maybe a 1:5 peroxide:water or dish soap:water solution sprayed on the "white stuff" will get rid of it...
