If anyone can help me ID this mystery flower, I would appreciate it. It's some type of ground runner, given to me about 4 years ago. I think it's prettier than most ground covers I had before. Thanks, for your help.

"Red Apple" can be very invasive. Similar to bishop's weed and purple loosestrife. I would be concerned with the Southern LA climate that it would eventually choke out everything. Check with your county extension service for local information.

It isn't invasive in the worst case of invasive. It doesn't drop seeds that end up growing where you don't want it. If you grow a plant it can grow in a circle 6 ft wide but you can kind of pick it up and lay it over on itself to pluck out any weeds that might have taken root under it. Then you lay it back out again. I have it growing on a hillside with pines above it. When the pine needles threaten to choke the red apple out I kind of pick it up and shake them off. It has never choked out any of my plants and is easy to control.

That looks like "DEW" plant I have in my birdfeeder planter,, Same flowers and Foliage,! Ohhhhhhhhh Okay I just looked at my tag and IT is the same thing Dew= APentia

A lot of it froze in our unusually cold winter this year. Some is coming back from the roots, though.

Tina I'm surprised to hear that On my tag it says it won't come back BUt if it comes back for you it will come back for me!

That is the first time in the 18+ years that I've grown it that it froze. It has been snowed on before but not the way it was this past year. It should live over for most zone niners and stay evergreen.

Mine is 8a Dallas BUt then again some of the flowers that say they won't grow back have ,,, BUt this is my first year for the DEW as I know them,, easy for me to remember as that is my initials!

I was just looking it up. It can be invasive and choke out native plants in wetlands. It is hardy to 23*. It will probably live over for you, Diane. Specially if it is a little protected like under trees or eaves in the winter. I really like this plant. I will be planting it around where it didn't recover. If it lasts another 15-18 years before frost takes it, that is OK with me.
