i just got an email from my friend here...there was some sort of mining accident last nite involving 2 miners here at the zinc mine in smith county. her husband worked in it several years ago and they are waiting to see what happened and if it is anyone they know! this makes me think of those 6 poor men in the mine collapse a few weeks ago, that was just awful!
just heard alittle more, this mine was re-opened just a few months ago, employess 159 miners. rock falling sent 1 to a local hospital in carthage, but the other was life flighted to vanderbilt in nashville. that is all i know right now.
my friend said one of the guys was from right here in gainesboro, first day on the job! i shudder to think about my hubby, he applied for a job there in the spring, thank god they did not want him---no experience!
I can't believe theres another one! It seems like there is a mining accident every other week...this is really saddening, prayers for the family to stay strong and hopeful

update....GOOD! the news in nashville reported that both men are not seriously hurt, 1 has mild head injury, and the other that was life flighted has since had surgery for a crushed leg. the mine was re-opened several months ago, but not working yet, just getting ready.
i still can't help but think of those 6 miners that were not so lucky a while back. i hope they did not suffer and struggle.
