While Maddie was in the hospital, we stayed at the Ronald McDonald house quite a bit. It is a great charity that McDonald's started near hospitals that have pediatric oncology departments. The house charged $15 a night and had 20 rooms, a large kitchen with 4 work stations (ovens, refrigerators, sinks.....one that was wheel chair accessible!), a large dining room, computer room, living room, sun porch, play room, outdoor playground, TV room, and a really nice sitting room. They also have a laundry room that is free for the "residents" to use. The house mainly runs on donations from different organizations. Coca-cola donates all of the soda and water that is put into the soda machine there at the house. The house charges a quarter for the sodas and uses the money that comes in to run the house. They also collect the tabs from the soda cans. The alloy in the tabs is more valuable than the cans when it comes to recycling, so the tabs that are collected get weighed and then the recycling center writes the house a check.
We get alot of soda and beer in cans and are saving the tabs so that we can help the house with their costs. I'm wondering if any of you go through alot of cans and would be willing to save tabs and send them to me so that we can give more to the Ronald McDonald house? If your interested in helping, simply PM me and I'll give you our address so you can send the tabs.
I know how much we appreciated the "Ronny House" being there....and other families with kids in the hospital appreciate that house being there as well. As a thank you, we want to do all we can to help the house out.
I have a post it note in the kitchen with a tab taped to it to remind BF. He's doing good so far. He's a beer in a can drinker. Wine doesnt have those pop top thingys.
I'll send you some that I could't get to school on time, I'll keep collecting

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee
[color:#CC0000] Jenn--I have a gallon bag full of tabs. if you are still in need I will gladly send them to you--Just let me know--
FYI: My SIL's were so very cute Christmas Eve & Day--
one would take the tabs off of peoples cans & then hand them to the other who in turn would put them in his pocket to keep. then they would check on each other to make sure they were not lost--- I got quite a few tabs for you over those 2 days alone.
DH is quite good about keeping them as well (I have a small container I keep on the counter so he can collect them for me)

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
You might want to talk to the firehouse closest to where you live. They go through a LOT of can drinks there and are usually most helpful about things like this. When the daughter of one of our firefighter's friends needed them, the entire department got involved!
Also talk to your local girl scout troop/boy scout troop. It counts towards community service for them.
Just a couple of ideas in case you didn't think about those sources!
Thanks very much, Annette. :) I hadn't thought about the fire company. They are just down the street from us, although it is a volunteer department and I am unsure that there is someone there all the time. I will ask MIL about it...she will know. :)
jenn, if there isn't someone there all the time, i can assure you they have a "normal" meeting time. matthew has joined ours and his meetings are on tues. at 7pm. i bet they have something similar.
You can call the county offices and find out when they meet. They all have some kind of regular training meeting. My husband's been with the fire dept. here for about 20 years, and he's got to go to the training meetings every week.
Are you still looking for these?? We're not pop drinkers, but my Uncle & Aunt are & already save the tabs. I'll let them know. I'll check w/my neighbors too. What a great fundraiser!
