It's such a dark, dreary, rainy day today, and the goldfish that Margaret generously gave me with the large tank are so bright and shiny, I just had to share them with you all.
This is the largest goldfish I've ever seen in an indoor tank!
Oh, thank you, Lynne! I was thinking about them recently and wanted to ask how they were doing. How's Big Ugly? And the hoya? I'm starting to get scared about the move. If I could just skip ahead 6 months... I haven't gone through the atic for 12 years, the bookshelves for 18, and I just sent off 3 plant orders. What am I thinking!?!
HI Margaret!!! Don't be afraid of the move! I'm soooo jealous - you are moving to the place that I'd LOVE to settle in sometime! I can't wait to see pictures of your new surroundings!!!
ALL the fish are doing VERY well. Big Ugly lets me see him several times a week, and seems happy. He lives in the hole of the trunk, and comes out to eat his aglae treat daily. Sometimes, Big Goldie swallows it WHOLE, as it floats down the tank, so I have to put in another - silly fish!
All the others are swimming happily and eating well. Thank you sooooo much again, for sharing your fish family with me!
Oh, and the hoya is doing very well too - it's getting new leaves now, and seems happy by the sliding glass doors in the basement - near the fish tank!
and comes out to eat his aglae treat daily. Sometimes, Big Goldie swallows it WHOLE, as it floats down the tank, so I have to put in another
But do you take the tablet out after they eat it, if it's not eaten all together? And do you feed them one of those EVERY DAY??
I had bought some of those for a big snail and placosomous *sp* that I had.. *the take was fairly new and I knew there wasn't much food for them, so someone suggested those to me.
I have such a terrible time with aggressive algae now, it's not funny... and you know how you're not supposed to empty a tank completely and use some of the water before so they can adjust easily... We'll every tank becomes just as effected as before... Even when the water splashes on the top of the protector below the light thing is covered in it... I have to wipe it off every so many days..
I won't ever have to buy that stuff again..
How long have you used it? Just outta curiousity??

Weezie - I put one algae treat in the tank every single morning - there is never any left over, and I haven't had any algae in that tank since I've had it from the beginning of this past October - KNOCKING ON WOOD VERY LOUDLY!!!
I did too, and my goldfish used to eat it and I'd find the big snail on it, and in the beginning it was okay and not problem...
but as soon as those two fish died *with age* my tank went down hill.. And I have a bazillion of those little snails, but they just can't seem to eat it up like the bigger one..
Does the directions say to pull out any left overs after so much time???
P/S I'll knock on wood for you too!!!!

Yes, Weezie, the packet says to remove any uneaten food - but really and truthfully, I haven't seen any leftovers - yet. As for the tiny snails - I had a bizillion of them in my 10 gallon after Sarah generously sent me some live plants, but they were making it difficult for me to enjoy the tank, so I removed the fish and cloroxed the entire tank, several months ago. I haven't had any return, and don't wish to have any again. I know they do their job, but I was just not enjoying them...
I really think that Big Ugly - a pleco - eats the entire tablet each day.
The funny thing is, I had that big snail at the time too, and I put the plant in, and the next day like one or two pieces of the plant was missing and I thought maybe I just miscounted, the next day the tops of the remaining one's were all sheared off.. and then the next day, only nubs were sticking out.. the next day, I think he ate the roots too, cause they were gone...
and a few weeks after that we noticed little tiny snails.. *we actually thought the big one layed them* but then realized they must have come on the plant, but am suprised the goldfish didnt' eat them alllll...
