Tonight while helping me make dinner, Maxi asked me if I'd like to hear him speak a different language?
A different language? I asked, thinking he was referring to his French classes.
Yes, Mommy. I can speak "Girl" now.
Girl?!
Yup.
Then he went into this very funny monologue sounding rather like a Valley Girl, complete with hand gestures.... "Oh, my life is o-
ver! I broke a nail!" And "Do you like my new purse? See the way it matches my eyes?"
He had me cracking up. Then he told me he is going to give lessons to the other boys at school because "we
men need to know these things!"
I was a little startled by all of this, truth to tell, because I have never modelled those kinds of sentiments to him, though he insists I do. Honestly, I don't recall ever wailing over a broken nail though I have kept my hands nice and nicely manicured since I was 15.
So I told him he was using a type of "Girl-speak" I don't know and he just laughed, unconvinced.
Fascinating to learn from my son that I speak a language I never heard of before!
So now i want to know: do y'all speak Girl and I just haven't noticed?
