yesterday I potted up some of my annuals. I am going to try to keep the alive this winter--in the attempt to NOT spend the money on them again next spring. thumbup

below is the plants I potted up.

Spikes (Espigas)

Quilers Geranium

3 pots of Vinca Vine

Alternanthera--it is the red variety & different than the one I had last year
I only potted one--I have 2.

Then I potted some hen & chicks that my friend gave to me, in exchange for
the Jerusalem Cherry start I brought to her. I have extra left over---i guess I will put them out around the air conditioner?

Why did you pot Hens/chickens?

I leave mine out there for winters..All around my chimney....They dont freeze/..
Or put them in the garage or under the porch.

I worked out in the veggie garden today. Got quite a bit accomplished. The weather was beautiful. Now that we had a frost that killed all the annuals and veggies I can pull it all up and get ready for next year... rolz

Happy to say no frost here! And it's almost the send of october, our average first frost was oct. 5. I ended up planting two large planters of dutch iris and crocus (one of each) and planted two 6" pots with allium in one and with more dutch iris in another.

I planted an amaryllis but the leaves started to rot once they came out (and I only water lightly when I potted it 2 weeks ago and haven't watered since! I bought 15 paperwhite bulbs for $20 (which I thought was a bit expensive but oh well) I have four yet to be planted, and 11 planted. Four in soil and eight in glass dishes. I want to give them for Christmas to my teachers, since Christmas break is about a week before actual christmas, I'm hoping they'll be in bud when I give them and will bloom on Christmas day if not earlier. It said 4-6 weeks, I know I'm a bit 'anxious' it is the first time I've done these bulbs. I might go buy some more amaryllis later.

I'm collecting containers right now to wintersow so I'm eating a lot of pre cut fruits and salads for the plastic container lol I have an uncle who is a great gardener and he's going to give me some bulbs if I remember to call him later.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee

Hey Kenny I love all the work you've done. It sounds wonderful. I love the idea of you giving floral gifts to your teachers. I hope they bloom right on time for you.

Don't forget to call your uncle, I don't want you to miss out on more bulbs.

You almost make me wish I still drove around. I bet your garden is going to look great this spring. If I drove I'd come up and see it.

I got some more of my garden cleaned up for winter and boy those Morning Glories were pretty but they sure found their way around anything they could cling too yikes raked a few leaves for my sister in law for her composting. Beautiful day here.

I haven't been in the garden for so long.at least a month................
I guess the growing season is at an end for me,not 'cause the weather. it's beautiful and warm here today.just no motivation to do it at the moment.
hopefully the prospect of a good rose season will properly motivate me next year.

I can relate to the MGs, but they provided quick colour for me! Especially growing in soil as bad as ours! I forgot to let the plants dry out and I just threw them into my compost bin, I didn't open the lid for about a week, and there were MGs sprouting all over the place...they supported each other by twining on each others stem...talk about team work lol had quite a time they will cling to just about anything...except the tresslises I set up and the trellis against the wall lol
