there are lots coming up in one place so I'm thinking I planted seed but don't remember what??? The whiteflies love it whatever it is. thanks!

Kinda looks like Henbit!!
but do you have a closer picture
of either the flower or stems/how the leaf
joins the stem...

I have to second the henbit opinion. My yard is nothing but henbit, or so it seems. A closer pic would be helpful.

It looks like Henbit except no purple blooms. So it may not be. Are you posting more pics? Maybe pics from the side too. I think I had some of that pop up in my garden and I pulled it. I think it's a weed

A weed is a plant you can't eat or use like grass is really a weed.Dandelions are called weeds but you can make wine,teas and salads with it.

for what it is worth the technical def. of a "weed" is an unwannted plant. therefore it depends who you ask if a plant is a "weed" the Chinese Tallow Tree is a commonly planted ornimental in California, the same plant is a noxious weed in Fla. Pampas Grass is a common ornamental in Fla. and is a noxious weed in Ca. so it seems a "weed" is in the eye of the beholder...
