My hostas still haven't died back all the way. Should I continue to wait before digging them up for the move this winter?

No, you don't have to wait. They can be dug just about any time, even in summer...they are very forgiving.

How should I store them for the move? Do I need to plant them into a pot or can they stay barerooted say in my refrigerator crisper?
I know loads of questions.

Can you wait until right before you move? I got my hostas from my daughters yard but I planted them within a couple of days. I layed them in the yard and hosed them down with water until I could get them planted. They did fine.

I am in the same position. I will be moving sometime within the next 3 months but I do not want to wait until we are 6' under snow to try to find my Hostas. What you can do is....
- Dig now while you can find them. Try to get as much of the root system as possible and do not wash the soil off. You want as little trama as possible now. - Plant in pots. They will do better outside than in the house. They need the moisture and chill period. Outside will give you the best natrual conditions. - Put pine needles or mulch on top.
Hostas are hardy. The only thing you do not want is crown rot. That is why pine needles are good. Although most Hostas are very forgiving there are some that are not. I have some expensive ones that I do not want to lose.
I wish us best of Luck with moving our Hostas.

Thanks cinta, It's good to see you posting. As soon as I get over this cold I'll get out there and dig them up. I appreciate all the information.
