Does anyone know what happens whe the Dial up Internet service is Gone?

Stories in our area about our dial up services going out by 2009.. Does this mean we all have to go wireless and switch to Fiberoptic or what/

no I don't know--but I would be interested in knowing--would this have anything to do with the TV saying something about ALL tv services being digital by 2010?? or something close aynyway. I was not eally payiong attention very well.
I would yhink the price of the service would have to be comperable, --after all you did not choose the upgrade---

my dial-up is $19.99. supposedly sometime this fall (from now till january 2008) our server is suppose to offer us bundles which include land line phone service, mid grade cable TV and high spped internet--all for $30.00 less than I am paying for the phone/dial-up/ &low end cable. I hope it comes to be. Better service & less money-

Yes ..........the tv won't work after they do that .. They told me When I bought a LCD tv last fall, it will need something in 2009 or not work.

I think you phone company and lines stuff is pulling your chain. My son had to switch to comcast net, his wife works on the computer from home.
The cost for the Hi speed and tv together is More like $90. a month and they had to buy stuff to upgrade it .

I hadn't heard that dial up would not be available I only pay 9.99 a month with localnet for my internet connection. I do not want to have to pay no 30.00 or more I am going to ask a computer friend tomorrow if i see him and see what he knows. He is a computer nut so he might know something

thanks for the heads-up. But as it stands now--they DO offer the package I quoted you to a town West of us and one way-way NE of us. so for now they might be telling the truth--OR come the bundle change time we could ALL get messed over.

The bad news??---they totally service the surrounding 6 or 7 towns--you cannot use any other land line phone company--and if you use another dish company--I do not know what happens with your phone & internet??--but like I cannot use say AT & T or anybody---

It was in our newspaper ......a meeting for businesses and anyone else.
About Wireless and it said dial up service will be obsolete.......When the change takes over .. My son is on it.. $90. a month ..but it is really fast.

But lots of them are offering packages for a limited time to get the customer.
We know that also.......

well they cannot do that--it is particular to this area because of what companies like AT & T offer in some of the surrounding areas--(they advertize on out TV's here))_ and even though we cannot take advantage of it they don't want us unhappy--well not too unhappy

But I CAN see them changing the service to include all of their customers and then upping the price--'cause just what are we gonna do about it???

Another trickey they use here........ You must take the service for a year or 2 years at the price.

well time will tell--they are not so tricky here though--because like I said--they pretty much have a monopoly here--wso not ttricks are needed.
you can get your cable thru other companies and tht is ok--BUT if you get your internet thru somebody else the phone company charges you long distance---

I pay $30 a month for dial up here. We have no internet cable hook up or high speed available to us. The only way we can get internet is through one phone company.

All I am sure of, we are in for a huge change. I do have a wireless mouse and scanner.

Well how much is phone service?
I pay $17.50 for my slow internet...My friend pays $12.50 on the same place but she took it for a year......I didnt commit.

my phone service is-

23.92 for basic phone
29.95 basic cable TV--not the best channels
19.95 dial-up internet
26.71 various taxes, etc. (crazy huh?
26.72 this isn't clear --but I asked for a set rate on my long-dist.
and to get it (15.00) I had to get the
caller ID Pkg. but my bill is still cheaper
than it was--ALL of our family is
long-distance--I save about $50-$75 a month
this way.

However we are having fun on these..
